If we have him it's a top piece of business. Very bizzare remarks about him in the thread.

Not going to happen this window at least.

Players in squad that would have to be registered:
  1. David De Gea
  2. Victor Lindelof
  3. Eric Bailly
  4. Phil Jones
  5. Harry Maguire
  6. Paul Pogba
  7. Juan Mata
  8. Anthony Martial
  9. Marcus Rashford
  10. Chris Smalling
  11. Lee Grant
  12. Jesse Lingard
  13. Marcos Rojo
  14. Fred
  15. Bruno Fernandes
  16. Daniel James
  17. Sergio Romero
  18. Luke Shaw
  19. Timothy Fosu-Mensah
  20. Odion Ighalo
  21. Dean Henderson
  22. Aaron Wan-Bissaka
  23. Nemanja Matic
  24. Donny van de Beek
  25. Axel Tuanzebe
  26. Scott McTominay
Those who don't:
  1. Mason Greenwood
  2. Diogo Dalot
  3. Brandon Williams
  4. Teden Mengi
add Edinson Cavani and that makes 27 that needs to be registered. Smalling is the only player that needs to be registered that has remotely been solidly linked with a move away. To sign a RW or CB after Cavani, we would need to get rid of at least three players by Monday deadline - not going to happen.
What a shite squad. Still cant get over the fact we gave Jones another contract. Has he even played after getting one?
4 GK's seems like overkill, is that the norm in the PL?

Ole might have restarted training while at it.

Hes only available as a rotation piece. He's not a surefire starter, if he was still in his prime, he would take martial spot. Stop acting like we dont know hes old, but hes still good and versatile
He must be a 15th choice target. He was a free agent and has been doing feck all over the summer without a club. We clearly didn't manage to get our main targets yet again.

It screams of poor planning. Like Ogden says this is a deal that we could have got done ages ago.
Or perhaps it couldn't get done 6 weeks ago because he and his agent were asking for silly money. Perhaps with the transfer window about to close they've had to climb down and accept they won't be getting money quite as silly as they thought they could 6 weeks ago.

Schweinsteiger was a WC winner and a Bayern Munich legend, an iconic midfielder of his whole generation. Still flopped massively.
But we expected him to sort our midfield out when he was too old, Cavani is a bench player simple as. Not the same in my opinion.

Where does this myth originate from. Martial and Marcus fought for the left for years. Things only got complicated when Sanchez was undeservedly given the starting spot.
That's the left... striker is what he wanted, and got (remember the furore over his number and Zlatan, too?) and he's had no real competition for the role as of yet.

If by some miracle Cavani can turn the clock back and play like he used to, he's a genuine threat to bench Martial - chance is obviously a fine thing, but I'd say the lines are fine with Martial, personally.

A very poor of signing. 2 year deal and he is well past it. Way too slow for the PL

The same people that are happy we've got Cavani are the same people that kept replying with ' but... Bastian Fecking Schweinsteiger ' in response to anyone who dared question that signing.

If this is our only signing after DvB, we are screwed.

How much is the Cavani deal costing us? If it's such a good deal for us then why didn't we do it in August? No point having a backup option who spends half the time injured himself. If Martial got a long term injury on Tuesday, could we rely on Cavani to play all season? Behave.
I don't know the details of how much it's costing us. A club's priorities can shift. It's pretty clear that Ole doesn't have much faith in Ighalo at this point, as Ighalo hasn't done anything in a while, and his minutes have dropped. So bringing in another backup striker option makes sense, also considering that Ighalo is on a loan deal and will leave mid season. The injury point is a fair one, but with him being brought in as a backup instead of starter, I think we can manage him well physically.

"Behave"? Really? How old are you?

Cavani as another attacker is good business. He is on a free and 2 year contract. Telles and another RW and we are good to go IMO. Get rid of Smalling and another player as well (Rojo, Mensah...), great.
need to get of 3 if we get get Cavani/Telles. We’ll have 28 O21 players (provided we still keep Ighalo) who need to be registered. Whether we can get rid of Romero/Smalling/Rojo in 2 days, we’ll see.

If the RW is Not Sancho and is O21 Too, then we need 4 gone, so then a Mensah or Jones or Dan James/Lingard to go As well l, otherwise we will have players paid to do nothing.

I cant imagine Ole instructing Ed to go out and bring in Cavani.
Why? Ole was striker and i am sure that he rates strikers like Cavani. And i am sure that Ed would not sign him without talking with Ole.

Anyway, good signing. And will put pressure on Martial to start deliver goals

Can anyone chime in and explain why Juve didn't get him?

Juve are usually on these kind of signings like a rat up a drain pipe so this is worrying.

No doubt he'll score goals but at what cost? Guarantee if he plays well we won't be signing anyone next year

Signing a 33 year old big name striker renowned for his physical commitment after a series of bad injuries and is known to have a questionable first touch and bottle a good chance. Genius signing.
There is one issue with Cavani while he is supposed to be very nice, he is also supposed to be a loner which apparently did not help when players that take a lot of room like Neymar and Mbappé appeared.
Well he'll fit right in with Rashford, Mata and Dan James. The newest member of the stretford softies.

Are you joking? Cavani has been nowhere near his peak levels in the last 2 seasons. His injury record has been awful.
Yeah, like Thiago.
Both had similar time out this season. Infact his injury record isn't that bad to be fair.
He's a proven goalscorer who's here to be backup.
Stop with your misplaced ire.

Falcao was a bench player and he still flopped. Bastian was actually supposed to be a rotation player as well because we still had Carrick, we bought Schneiderlin as well and we had Daley Blind, Herrera.

Falcao was coming back from a very serious injury.

On a positive note, he could turn out to be a Zlatan rather than Bastian, Sanchez or Falcao. Some of you guys need to wait before making judgements.

I do wonder if his (and his agent's) demands dropped significantly as it looked like nobody was interested at the wages they were originally asking for.
You're probably right to be fair but it doesn't sound like it will be a cheap one.

The amount of fury when he misses chance after chance after chance.....still at least it’ll be Sancho putting those chances on a plate for him.

Let's get Ozil next, maybe bring Higuain back to the PL.

Cavani and Higuain up top, Ozil behind them. Dynomite!

You gave me a silly answer so I gave one to you.

You obviously don’t have a clue what you're talking about.
This summer window was an opportunity to make our starting 11 selections over the season better, by adding players that could be considered starters to help rotation.

Anyone that's happy with our club only being able to sign probably a 15th choice striker at the start of the window needs to demand more of the club.
