How long is it going to be until he's even ready to play? He can't be close to being match fit given he's not had a club.

Does he even speak English?

Are the injuries not a huge concern?

So many questions and so many issues. Panic stations doesn't even begin to describe what this mess is.
Mate, I agree with you completely.
The people on this forum who seem to be happy about this deal don't realise all the points you have just made.
Does he even speak english?! What are we Brexit FC?!?!

Valencia famously barely spoke english the whole time he was he and he was loved.

Now you’re just trying to make yourselves upset

What does that even mean? Entitled to want my club to not sign bad players so Glazers can leech an extra few million and scrape fourth if we're lucky?
“A bad player” ugh.

A few years ago I'd be all over this, but do we really want another over paid ex super star on the books for a couple years? Smacks of us making the same mistakes we've made time and time again since Fergie left.

We have a young squad that needs experienced players to guide them. That is how you rebuild, but getting talent and surrounding them with class professionals to learn from- not that the likes of Cavani, Matic, Mata etc. are just there to pick up wages and not contribute on the pitch obviously.

We have a squad that lacks experienced pros. Too many 18-25yos, and not enough 28+yos.
Well I really hope so. I agree we don’t have lots of experienced players. But I hope Cavani can contribute more on the pitch as well. I personally would expect someone with this paycheck to score 20+ goals in the league...

Undoubtedly a panic buy but certainly not a bad one. A proven goalscorer and only a two year deal so it's not the end of the world if it doesn't work out.

There's no way it doesn't leave us in a better position depth wise.

I thought last summer that Cavani was a great option for us but now I feel a bit underwhelmed. Maybe because it just feels reactive and a return to a transfer strategy that hasn’t worked for us in the past, when we’ve spent all summer excited by the prospect of adding Sancho and being set for the next few years in attack.

This feels like the kind of signing I thought we'd stopped doing after Mou left.

This thread needs less talk and more videos of Cavani's goals over the years  bring it on

The shit slinging tonight is ridiculous.

It's possible to be annoyed at the board and the way this summer has been handled, but still think Cavani is a decent signing. You can be happy with signing a top quality and experienced back up striker, without suddenly being labelled a Glazer lover.

There are a lot of United fans who need to stop living their lives on the back of every single gobshite with a twitter account. Wait until the full details emerge before throwing toys out of prams and believing the worst case scenario from the off.

At the same time, when people are expressing legitimate frustration at things like leaving our transfer business til the last days of the window when everything has escalated into a circus and the season is already well under way, that is ok too. People should be allowed to criticise that incompetence without being called precious or entitled.

Everyone needs to take a minute and breathe.

That's maybe because he's a bit shit though and offers almost nothing.
So back to the question of why extend at all then?

To me, I just think our transfer activity is all over the place.

We panic buy a stop gap player, and then panic buy another stop gap player because the first stop gap is coming to an end.

And that justifies the wages and fees that come with the player? Why did we get rid of Rooney; going by your logic, he should still be at the club - he's our top scorer after all.
Yes, he still has something to offer in a time where we need a striker like him to come in and fill in games here and there.

Happy enough with the signing for what it is, but monumental failure on Woodward's part if he's the only real attacking addition.

I am not a big fan of this signing. I think that Cavani is too old, too injury prone and will be paid far too much for us to be even bother. However in terms of experience that's BS. The guy played with Napoli and with PSG alongside guys like Mbappe, Neymar and Hamsik. He worked under two of the most demanding people in football ie Al Thanis and De Laurentiis, the latter is a meaner version of Levi ie meaner in the terms of comparing Gattuso to Vinnie Jones type of being mean. He'll certainly doesn't lack experience to play for us

What SA tend to lack with a club like United is someone who understand their culture and who helps them to settle down. I come from a sunny country myself and I confess I struggled big time to adapt to my first winter in the UK. Its hard to spend weeks if not months not seeing the sun. Having a colleague or mates from your own country would help
We're talking about having experience at the club to help the young guys, no?

Similarly thing can be said about Alexis who had great experience playing with great players under great coaches of the game. Yet fail to transfer that to help any young players. Alexis had time in England and PL, and did well to boost.

Even Zlatan at better physical condition, and form, had people questions about his ability to adapt to PL.

Cavani would have everything to prove when he arrives.

As you pointed out, South American players more often than not would face a challenge in culture shift, and weather. Our record with South American is not very good, even those coming here young.

I don't really know to be honest. In hindsight it looks a poor choice .

I am referring to the experience needed to help Pellestri settle down at a European club.

I thought we'd moved away from this type of short term signing

the reality is we are operating in the confines of the Glazer economic approach and paying this guy for 2 years will not eat into the dividends the way signing a contracted player will

Could be good for us in the short term but let's not kid ourselves

a well run club wouldn't be near this deal.

a well run club would have attracted Haaland/Bellingham etc

a well run club would be signing players in a strategy - this feels very desperate

So he justifies being on more money than almost all of the leagues best, most prolific forwards who are the figureheads of their teams because he can 'come in and fill in games here and there'?

No idea what he has left to offer but he's an upgrade on Ighalo at least. Could see it going either way, a shrewd signing or one that makes the board looks silly.

Not really. I have always liked him, excited to see how he does for us really. I think he'll be really good.
The level of delusion in this thread is something to behold. He started 7 league games last year, his injury record the last 2 years is bad, he's been a free agent all summer and nobody wants him. We'll be blowing a serious amount of dough for a guy to be in the physio room all season. We'll be lucky if he gets 5 league goals. This whole fiasco is a perfect encapsulation of the club under Woodward.

You don't pay obscene amounts of money for players to "fill in". It's like some of you lot have no sense of how much money this club has wasted and continues to waste.

After all the failed stupid signings we've made, suddenly this one will be a massive success in a crucial year for the long-term progress of our club. Yeah, of course, whatever you fecking say.

I think it is well known that Sanchez was a bit of a cnut.
