What cover do we have for LB? DM? RW? CB?

0 natural right-sided forwards, 1 natural left-footed LB and one natural DM in the whole squad, many CBs but most are useless or injury prone so we don't have proper reliability there either. But no, let's spend tens of millions on a declining and injury prone striker, who might not even fit well with the squad. Can't wait.
looks like we are buying a left back. We have multiple players who can play midfield, it might not be ideal but we can cope.

We have more than enough CB cover, whether the quality is there is up for debate of course.

we clearly needed a striker. if we didn’t buy him, it doesn’t mean we were going to buy a CB and a midfielder as well does it.

we need a right winger, but buying Cavani doesn’t affect that.

we can’t go any buy 1/2 a brand new team every year, that’s not realistic. Get over yourself

you seem to think buying one player means we can’t do anything else, or haven’t tried.

But which ones are good at it?
Martial is still adapting
Rashford is not good centrally
As yet have not seen Mason play there
Ole only plays him there in meaningless Cup games.
What kind of bollocks is this? So Cavani should be a starter?

We're stocked in the middle so it's easy to break VDB in slowly but Cavani obviously still feel's he's elite, he isn't going to sit on the bench and be happy about it.
If he's not happy he can leave at the end of the season. People have raised questions about his injury record so I doubt he'll even be able to start most games.

If we bought a RW instead, who knows who plays and who is on the bench. But we would have far better balance in the squad and it would be better management of resources if we looked for a stop gap in January rather than now, 2 days before the window ends and when we were supposed to look at first 11 signings.
you didn’t answer my question, and it seems pointless debating with you.

It's the other way around, we cross a lot but there's often no one in the box ready for them. If we get Telles as well then there's an interesting linkup.
An interesting link up would be Sancho crossing for Cavani. :D

Thing is he’s nothing like Ibrah who was world class. Even in his prime Cavani was massively overrated.

This is what I'm worried about. How does a 33 year Cavani fit Solskjaer's plans? Short answer: he doesn't. So will he sit on the bench for 2 seasons? Probably not quietly. In that case does Solskjaer have to play him considering the wages he's on? Yes most likely. Who suffers? Martial, Rashford or Greenwood.

Cavani was a beast of a player but this deal to me is as much marketing as it is about football,
It will not surprise me in the least to see him wear #7 and see how much coin that will generate.

mid he comes with the attitude that he should be our starting no 9. Brilliant. That’s what’s called competition, if he proves he can do it, all for it. Martial will need to up his game, fantastic news.

your negative is my positive.

That seems like a bunch of excuses for the club hierarchy. We had half an year to plan this, even with the pandemic happening, we still had loads of time to plan everything properly.

If you are happy with this, more power to you. I don't care anymore to be perfectly honest, because I don't expect us to do anything meaningful anymore, unless we get extremely lucky in some of the cups.

The fact that people are happy with those excuses 7 seasons after we last won the league is enough proof to me we won't have a positive future in the next 5-10 years. I keep on debating with people to see if anyone comes up with something rational or meaningful, but it's the same old shite everyone is basically saying. Woodward and the rest of the people responsible probably can't believe their luck that there are still United fans that will try to rationalise and defend their decisions.

According to this article from Laurie Whitwell, Cavani was demanding 9 million Euros per year (~173k/week).

There's no exact info on what we agreed on with him, but that should give us an idea of what he'll be earning in the club.

If it makes any of our accountant fans feel better. BBC have reported this:
BBC said:
It is understood the package on the table does not go beyond the current pay structure, so United feel any comparisons with Alexis Sanchez, who was given a £350,000-a-week contract which he failed to come close to justifying, would be wide of the mark.

No it's all about marketing.
It's so outrageous that even Ole might veto it, and he's a total yes man.

It doesn’t generate anything. Surely you know that don’t you? That myth has been debunked for years.

It also sounds like we got him down from that too. I consider that a good deal personally.

I honestly do not understand your transfer strategy this window. You don't need a striker nor did you need the Dutch guy really. You are focusing on areas you dont really need improving and neglecting the areas you need investment.
Bit of an exaggeration tbh. Yes, people will complain but imagine going the bench options from Lingard, Ighalo, Williams to Dvb,Cavani and Shaw ?

People are frustrated because we haven't signed Sancho yet.

What if he comes in and it's Sanchez all over again? Someone earning big money, thinks they should start but isn't doing it on the pitch? This is such a big risk with very little chance it will pay off.

Where’s this nugget come from? You think he’s joining to be a starter.
The idea is rotation, but Cavani is not happy with just that. He is the type to push to play. He has rivalry with Neymar, then Icardi.

For all the bad press against Icardi, he get on well with other players, like Neymar, Mbappe. Cavani is very competitive, but also the type that thinks he's better than he really is.

Edit: Cavani had rivalry with Zlatan too. And by all the rumor, is one of the few players that Zlatan holds grudge for.

He is on half the wages Sanchez/De Gea are on. Don't understand the panic. Cavani won't play on a 80k contract. Some seem stuck in the 00's.

Then he's shown the door in the summer.

On current ability? Let's see Cavani play a game in the PL before we make that claim but would he be cheaper? Yes. Would he be happy to be second string? Yes.

Why have we signed a huge name at the age of 33 to play as our main striker?
have we signed Cavani as our main striker? I’m sure Martial will have something to say about that.

If Martial is injured who do you play there then?
You play the other 3 players that are available for that position.

If Shaw is injured, who do you play? If Matic is injured or tired, who do you play? If Maguire is injured or tired, who do you play?

Not too exited about this transfer but we need an additional striker and we don't want to / can't spend, so I guess there aren't many options.
