A much better player than Ighalo; I'd don't know why anyone thought he was any good. Ighalo was a waste of money.

It is better to spend more money on Cavani than less on a far worse player in Ighalo. Still, this only improves our depth rather than first team.

Is it fair to ask where’s he been training?
he hasn't and it's the main reason he's not in the national team squad for their qualifiers.
Uruguay's assistant coach Mario Rebollo said Friday there were concerns about Cavani's fitness as he had not played for several months.

"Beyond the fact that we all know the capacity that Edi has, this pandemic has interrupted his training regimen," said Rebollo.

I think he ll get the no 7..

:)
Interesting point actually. If he’s announced with ‘enough’ time for further deals, the squad number he’s given will surely indicate what our remaining plans are.

Maybe.

If (and it's a big if) we sign Sancho and Telles in the next 24 hours, does that change anybody's perception of the Cavani signing?
Absolutely, the signing of Cavani would really make sense then. If we end up signing him and vdb only though, it’s one of the worst tranfer windows in recent history imo.

If we announce him on Twitter with 'You love to see it' I think it may break the internet
announcing Cavani on deadline day, giving him the 7 shirt and then briefing "no more signings" will probably send some to the hospital.

I agree with you. If he’s given the number 7 then it’s over. Anything else and it’s muppet time again

So McTominay, Fred and Williams is good enough cover, but Rashford, Greenwood and Ighalo (all can play as striker, along with Martial) isn't?
Who then covers Rashford and Greenwood? No I don’t think Ighalo is good enough, especially over a prolonged time period.

Yeah of course it does. Cavani isn’t a bad signing at all in its own right, having Cavani available to cover for Martial is sound.

It’s just that unsolved RW position, it will be very disappointing to have that same problem come deadline day.

Not going to happen this window at least.

Players in squad that would have to be registered:
  1. David De Gea
  2. Victor Lindelof
  3. Eric Bailly
  4. Phil Jones
  5. Harry Maguire
  6. Paul Pogba
  7. Juan Mata
  8. Anthony Martial
  9. Marcus Rashford
  10. Chris Smalling
  11. Lee Grant
  12. Jesse Lingard
  13. Marcos Rojo
  14. Fred
  15. Bruno Fernandes
  16. Daniel James
  17. Sergio Romero
  18. Luke Shaw
  19. Timothy Fosu-Mensah
  20. Odion Ighalo
  21. Dean Henderson
  22. Aaron Wan-Bissaka
  23. Nemanja Matic
  24. Donny van de Beek
  25. Axel Tuanzebe
  26. Scott McTominay
Those who don't:
  1. Mason Greenwood
  2. Diogo Dalot
  3. Brandon Williams
  4. Teden Mengi
add Edinson Cavani and that makes 27 that needs to be registered. Smalling is the only player that needs to be registered that has remotely been solidly linked with a move away. To sign a RW or CB after Cavani, we would need to get rid of at least three players by Monday deadline - not going to happen.
Why do Tuanzebe and Mctominay need to be registered but the other 4 guys dont?

I think it could be a good signing, he'll arrive with something to prove, especially with us drawing PSG in the Champions League.

The caf's unceasing negativity about literally everything is exhausting.

Yeah for sure. It will go from a desperation signing to a ‘cherry on the top’ signing if we also got Sancho and Telles.

At least he is someone to be there to meet the end of those crosses. Oh wait, who’s good at crossing?

Is it just me that feel this tranfer is kinda good for us? He is if a proven topscorer and really humble person with great mindset on the field.

He can change the games for us just with his playstyle. mby we even can get some headers now :devil::devil:
That's the hope but I think the reality might be different. What sort of shape is he currently in after being released by PSG a few months back? Could take him two months to get prem match fit.

My only concerns are with his fitness but other than that tiny detail it's all good as far as I'm concerned. 1 yr contract with option for another year if true is also great as it does mitigate some of the risk.

Rojo, Romero and TFM need to go asap to free up some space in squad. Released for free would be good or get what we can for Romeo and TFM and then just use that to pay Rojo to leave. Sorted.

I don't understand why Cavani is being compared to Ighalo, even he will know there is no comparison. The forward line finallybhas some depth, Martial, Cavani, Greenwood and Ighalo, a good mix of experiences too. We badly need a right winger still, i think we will sign someone, it is just a question of who. I just cannot believe how relaxed we have come across to signing a right winger. We have been desperate for someone in that position for years now.

This is a pretty weird signing. But okay, sure. Another striker who excels with delivery with dodgy flank players will be great.

Him appearing with a number #7 jersey, and the Manchester United page admin hyping him up as the next Eric Cantona would be funny enough for me, even in these hard times.

Greenwood is not the RW solution, he's a stop gap because we have nothing else. We're going after a young rw (Sancho) because the club knows this, if they thought Greenwood was the solution they would be looking at buying a back-up rw. Greenwood is a no.9

Clear as day. We had a list of targets and obviously couldn't secure option 1-2-3 and cavani was obviously at the bottom hence the last minute
You were assuming it's Ed's signing, not Ole's. Well, we don't know that and I very much doubt it.

Ain’t that the truth. It’s equally annoying as actually missing out on key signings.

Since we‘re speculating shirt numbers, Cavani wears No.21 for Uruguay and the current Utd No.21 is being linked with a move away...

So he’ll carry us through the whole season? We have no real cover or competition there, or the left for that matter. Yeah, unsolved.
Theres a difference between depth and saying the right side is unresolved though.
