He has all the attributes for an attacking FB. Very excited to see him again. Also that RB we bought from Barca.

So Devine will miss out then you reckon? How do you rate Devine?
Reece is injured atm, not sure for how long. He was great last season and one of the more experienced in the group so very doubtful he’d be missing out when fit. Not sure how serious the injury is though, so could be a chance for Fernandez to push up for that time as Svidersky isn’t really a LB.

Thing is we’ve also just signed Pye for LB as well so I imagine there may be a bit of rotation in and out for all of them.

Fair enough, makes sense. And what are the impressions of Pye so far? How does he look to stack up against Fernandez for example? He's a little bit younger right?

Pye played the first match and looked decent enough if not spectacular. I’ve only seen Pye the once and Fernandez only highlights so hard to make a real comparison.

Pye is the year younger. Pye is u17, Fernandez u18, and Devine is u19. So there is a year between each.

We’re meant to be arranging a lot of u17s friendlies this season as we have a very large group of players in the u18s. So Pye might play those with Fernandez in the u18s league, or some kind of split. With Fernandez moving up if Devine is still injured. Fernandez is a year older than most recruits so could be pushed into u23s quicker than most.

Great news, he’s been missed.

Would that be an u17s side from Mansfield too or an older side?

There looks to be some serious depth in the u18s so good they’re working to get games for all of them.
Based on the u17 Burnley game I would say first year's + u16s, however, Mansfield being a smaller academy I would also expect some U18's

He looked like he won't be at u18s level for long. Just physically looked far more developed that a lot of the other players, along with being very composed on the ball.

Wait, he's a LB but hit a rocket with his right??? And it didn't look like a swinger either!

BTW, Forson has a left foot like a traction engine

Cheers for the info. Yea, was wondering with it being a lower club if we might be trying to test them against some older kids like an u18/19s side or something.

Bear in mind the team we field consists of mainly U16's with a few U17's and a couple of the more physically mature U15's

Judging by those highlights it's only a matter of time before he's being slagged off in the match day thread.

There were rumours when we signed him that we told him he’d be fast tracked to the 23s and be back up to Shaw and Williams. He looks phenomenal in every department so I can believe it.

We all love United
I watched the highlights and he was kind of at fault for the Burnley goal. Was out jumped by the scorer but a nice goal from himself though. Looks like a unit tank already at 17

I'm not sure to be honest. He's never struck me as one that has a chance of making the first team. You need to stand out at that level to have first team expectations.

Laird stands out a mile. Williams whilst not looking as good as Laird also stood out as a leader at that age. All I've seen of Carreras is highlights of one game but based on that he looked very very good.

I can’t see Devine making it here. He should get a loan move soon and have Fernandez take his place in the 23s. Maybe in January as it’s early days still and I know we don’t like to rush things in the academy set up especially with the European lads.

This is my thinking. LB in the 23s is available right now and we've signed too highly rated LBs at u18. Carreras is older and bigger. His u18 debut looked too easy. So I can see Carreras fighting for the u23 place soon and maybe Pye staying at u18s.

Devine is actually quite good, you'll likely get that response if you ask about a good portion of the kids in the academy at the moment, we have a wealth of talent. I don't think we'll see him in the first team but never say never. We've put a huge emphasis on full backs being good going forward at youth level and Devine is someone who fits that mould petty well. Everytime I watch him he reminds me of a left-footed version of Williams.

Devine did well when playing up with the 23s last season and combined well with Elanga in the 18s. It's too soon to write him off or suggesting a loan just because we sign an exciting youngster who is 1 year younger, he's same age with the likes of Mengi, Elanga, McCann etc. You need to be careful not to push the cycle too fast. It's only 2 games in and we already had like half the U18s XI playing up.

At worst we can play 5 at the back and play both of them, since we don't have much attacking options in the 23s anyway.

It’s all subjective though isn’t it. We were looking to buy Bellingham, a 16
Year old at the time, to go straight into the first team squad. If you’re good enough you’re old enough. It would be somewhat unfair to block a players path based on someone being older than them. Anyway, it’s too soon to make any definitive statements, it was just my thoughts based on what I’ve seen so far.

Yeah he's confirming my initial thoughts. It would have been a crime to keep him in the U18s, he's not only very talented, he's very aware, intelligent and mature in his game which is just as important these days. It's also rare for this type of player to be such a physical unit. He'll definitely push Williams over to his more natural right side if that hasn't already officially happened. Big fan of this guy.

I really like the look of him. He has great composure. Seems very tactically aware, mature and is a good passer. From the very little I've seen of him, I wouldn't be surprised if he'd be perfectly adept at playing at centre back or even central midfield.

If anything it's Reece Devine's place who would be at risk, he's the one who took over from Williams when he was promoted.

How many quality leftbacks do they have at the club? Reguilon is outstanding, but he was deemed only worthy of being on loan at Sevilla, and then sold for a relatively low fee. Then the article says Carreras was hampered by being behind another guy I've never heard of.

My new favorite player. Handsome, elegant, left-footed, touch of God, can cross, very aware, good passer, very smart with and without the ball. The new Daley Blind, only more powerful.

Quite a good comparison, only more athletic and better dribbler. We should lurk around Real/Barca academy more. There seem to be some good picks.

Dare I say he reminds me a lot of a young Sergio Ramos. Didn't he start off as a full back too?

AS: "Should he continue to impress with his performances for United’s U18 and U23 sides, the report states he could be a ‘step away’ from being included in the first team by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer."
