That was quite amusing too, the English commentators were warning us of his talent whilst he arranged his hair like a shampoo model on the sidelines wating to come on. His performance wasn't as lovely as his hair, regrettably for Leipzig.
That was a horrendous cameo. Giving the ball away for a goal, giving a pen away and simply watching Rashford for his 3rd. He was garbage

I can't remember why I joined this war.
This thread. Knee-jerk café at it's finest. But I get now why there are people on here who think Ramos is the most overrated defender in the world. I guess they have seen him have a bad game and no good player would ever have one of those, no way sir.

Typical of the Caf to write off a player based on one game. It really should be renamed to Knee-Jerk Cafe at this point.

The disrespect for our defenders the guy literally let in 5 goals and you all want him to replace our defenders with two clean sheets in a row.
and about 3 weeks ago those defenders let in 6 to a spurs side, they done well last night but lets not big them up to much

Easy to get carried away by his first half because he's got the pace and power to be able to bomb from midfield but it's not like he was challenged much in those areas. His passing to the wings really impressed me.

Then there was the second half... Konate stood out more for me.

Well theres a lot of people wanting to sign him based off of the 3 to 4 games theyve seen him play.
He looked so cumbersome. Its not being caught out of position or anything circumstantial that you could bat away but he looked slow in recovery and bamboozled by quick feet.

Getting rinsed in one on one’s got nothing to do with tactics..
This.. put most defender one v one against a fast skillful forward and they will struggle. Defending is about alot more than just one v one defending.

It is clear that Upamecano has the qualities to be a top CB

I would credit Rashford more than blame Dayot for yesterday.

I think he could be top centre back. He has all the attributes. Pace, power and has looked silky smooth in a few games I have watched him previously. Would be a very good acquisition to replace Jones and Rojo.

Clearly a very good defender but it was great to see Rashford absolutely skin him twice.

I think you should maybe support your own players more than Leipzig’s..
what because I said don't hype our players after 2 games means I am supporting Leipzig players ? are you an actual idiot or something ?

An idiot? Think you’re the one looking like an idiot we’ve won our last 4 matches, only letting in an og against PSG, so yes big them up...

Doesn't matter how quick and strong or good you are if all your midfield disappears up field to press then the right ball to the right player will expose you and make you look poor. I was impressed by his passing and its pretty obvious that with any reasonable midfield defence he would be a major asset.

There are not many teams with forwards like Rashford who can beat even the quickest defenders over the top.

And that’s why you’re not a Champions League level defender.

What is it with people on here using the fact they play football as a means to validate their opinion. I see it quite a lot. Yes it gives you some slight understanding about how to play a position. By the difference between a Champions League quality player and a bottom half of the table quality player is massive let alone the difference between CL and semi-pro.
Because at all levels you are taught the same basics in a position. I remember learning a harsh lesson as a kid which always taught me to watch the man not the ball because a ball was played into the area and I didn't see the striker behind me and he got goal side and scored. I was too focused on cutting out the pass. I still see top level CB doing stupid shit like that at CL level like even yesterday and it's amusing and basic. I am not for one second suggesting I am better than them but admit it is funny seeing professional CB making errors you got shouted at for when you were 8.

we drew with Chelsea for a start so yeah your an idiot, add we also conceded v Newcastle so an OG v PSG wasn't the only goal we conceded, when they can perform constantly they will get bigged up

In that kind of mood I think Rashford would have skinned any centre half you could mention. Upemecano was a unlucky to be playing against Rashford in the mood and form he was in last night.

Didn’t say we didn’t let in a goal against Newcastle, Upamecano never did anything to suggest to me he should dislodge our defenders. I think they’re doing well since Spurs.

He still looked like their best player. Their formation was ragged at the end, wouldn't say it was on him particularly.

I’ve not been following your argument with that other guy but neither of these statements are true: we didn’t win our last 4 matches (drew with Chelsea just the other day), and we also conceded vs Newcastle (which was a wicked deflection, but awful defending in the build up).

Must have been a really bad game and his brain stopped working. Does he regularly run out of his own half with the ball and just kick it to the opposition? And to top it off not even bother trying to get back. If he behaves like that in the champions league god help him on a cold Tuesday pay per view night against Burnley

the over rating of defenders just because they can control a ball or run with it amazes me. His centre back partner seemed more of a defender to me.

I think the reason he's rated higher than Konate is his attacking contributions, whilst still having his insane 1v1 defending.

Potential wise he's definitely the higher of the 2, but right now I'd say Konate is more solid and dependable.

The only game I've seen VVD play was the 7-2 defeat against Villa. What a overrated player he is!

Guess what lower case man, neither are you.
And that’s why I referenced an interview with Ole as a means to display elite level mentality compared to talking about me playing as a striker. In no way does an elite level defender ever just go ‘we could have done nothing there as a team’. I mean just look at Nagelsmann after the match. He was asked about whether he thought Greenwood was offside and he said he didn’t care because they could have defended it better. If the defender followed Greenwood’s run and pushed him out away from the goal, they wouldn’t have conceded. He didn’t complain about VAR or say wow great pass, great finish.

The problem is you are making this assumption from one game, just like the rest on here. Watch him more often and you will see what a good defender the guy is, that's all I'm saying. Same was when Varane had a horrible CL game, the guy has been a starter for Real and the French national team for years, but he has one awful game and is all of a sudden complete shite and yes Konaté is also a very talented CB and he has had horrible games as well just like every defender, even van Dijk when Liverpool got trashed 2-7.

What annoys me is the overraction of "overrated" "awful" "hipster CB" "compelte shite" after such games. All of a sudden the 30 good games that CB had in a season don't count anymore. If this is the metric we judge players by no player will every be good enough for United.

the only assumption I made was I think his cb partner seemed a more competent defender.

admitedly I havnt seen much of him in the German league but if this is his level when It matters and in bigger games then it’s shocking. Shocking attitude and effort.

running forward with head down and just passing anywhere
Not getting back with any speed
Absolutely rinsed on one on ones, rashford schooled him, enough so to have the confidence of trying to nutmeg him and go on the half way line.

like I said, it must have been a really really bad game

Mate you need to take a deep breath, all the passive aggressiveness is never endearing on the internet. It’s just a forum ffs. You said we only conceded an OG vs PSG which is a misleading statement given we also conceded vs Newcastle.
And great about the clean sheet (I actually think we defended well in that but I wasn’t talking about that in my last post, we still didn’t win the match as you said. If you’re going to get all chippy at least be accurate

When he made a good dribble and then Shaw intercepted his pass, his lack of urgency to get back to position was very poor, he wasn't even jogging, he barely walked to the position.

His passing was good and he has huge potential. It was just a bad day for him.
