A little off topic but just to continue down that rabbit hole a little further, I thought this analysis of that little swish in the bible belt they've held onto since then was very interesting. Start of the Twitter thread here:

Read that earlier. Fascinating stuff imo.

Anyone mention Betfair has seen a massive shift in favour of Trump last few mins. Was 4-1 now in to 5/2

There is half a billion dollars on it. I'm telling you, Betfair is an instant barometer on the election.

no-one in particular
Cuomo handled it horribly and no one is blaming him
I agree - but mostly in the sense that he waited far too long, right? Once he got going, he got it fairly right (if I remember correctly), but at that point, the situation was already too far gone. That's fairly common though; I don't think there are a lot of places that took the right measures at the right time; and I would not think a Democratic president would have been perfect either. But just better could already save a lot of lives and suffering. (My post was anyway too simplistic, as it ignores the states-feds dynamic. But I think a more supportive federal government could have helped the states that did install strong measures.)

Fair enough, I will add my responses on a line below:
Thanks for the response - it's a good conversation. It's not the subject of the rest of the thread anymore though and I should get back to work (ahem), so I think I'll leave it at this. I will just add that I agree that comments on the tardiness of economic change/impact apply to every presidency; and that part of our different economic perspectives might have to do with that I would never vote for selfish reasons; I consider the bigger whole, even if that would negatively affect my own bottom line (which tax measures I would like to see here in Canada certainly would). But I know that's rare.

It is Arizona that will be releasing only at seven o’clock local time tonight. Astonishing.

Georgia Sec. of State says 61K left to be counted.

Trump lead is 19K. Therefore Biden needs to win 66% approx. of remaining count. It’ll end up close but should be possible given mail in?

I feel like it’ll be too close and then litigation will overturn it one way or another given the “Red”ness of local government there.

Would this Texas subset need an additional tag - career/job? Because if many of these Latinos/Hispanics are indeed employed by the oil & gas industry then the Dems need to provide solutions to future jobs.
Another great point that would help determine specifics.

The current caps rage is lowkey terrifying. Does the president still have access to nuclear weapons? :nervous:

Biden always talks about being a Catholic and quotes religious expressions to emphasis a broader point while keeping it out of his policy decision making. Dems have an ex president Jimmy Carter who is a Bible study teacher. They can make some inroads with religious voters if they talk on that level and embrace their own resonance of faith rather than write them all off as right wing conservatives. Biden was never going to win that bloc because of the right wing decades long dominance but he cut into the margins better than previously. He may have eased the fears of some people who only heard that Dems are satanists for years just by talking about his own religious experience.
Not nearly enough truly defectable citizens in that group though. No outreach will change that fact in two or four years’ time.

Here's a question: is the failure of Trump to disenfrancise enough Democrats in the right places to win (like W Bush did) a case of the incompetence of his team/a lack of support from Republicans in positions of power at state level, is it because the voter coalitions behind the main parties have changed so the same tactics wouldn't disenfranchise the right voters, or is it just that Trump is so unpopular that the tried-and-tested dirty tricks just weren't enough and he's having to resort to more blatant ones (delegitimising mail-in ballots) to stay in the race?
What happened in Florida was an organised party and government and family effort.
Bush's brother was the governor and his friend was the AG. They purged records of black voters before the election. The party funded and organised efforts to stop the count, with protests, riots, and court cases at various districts ready to go. And finally the Republican Supreme Court sided with them.
That first part (organisation from top to bottom) doesn't seem to have been there this time, and instead of doing it quietly, it's Trump sending tweets and state officals (so far) not responding.

I think this slow ass counting just doesn't favor King's playstyle. He needs a faster pace of counting to really shine, being fed new information every few minutes.
And he has an apparent Henderson challenge.

We are due something from Nevada soon aren’t we?
Couple of hours. Ralston is being less sure than I'd like about it but still, Clark mail should be enough.

In Florida you only have to say Democrats = socialism/communism and the Cuban Americans will vote Republican.

Replacing minority voters with religious whites would definitely suit the party and the president-elect, and, if they had the power to will a coalition into existence, I don't think they can imagine a better one than they have now. The primary electorate would be more centrist, and, since these new voters have shown willingness to vote-split for the senate and house, it reduces the left presure on the president almost totally.
