It's much quicker going from a HDD to the SSD then it would be to dl the whole thing again. That's the point of it.
For sure! Not everyone has fibre. If you habe 5-10mb/s, it would take at least 6 hours!

That is why I asked, as transferring is done in max 20 minutes

Giant Bomb / Beastcast have done a joint show talking about the new consoles.

Haven't said much on the Xbox (they've been speaking about it already this week so not sure what they overall take is) but they love the PS5

  • Generally amazing console
  • Controller 'badass' in Astro
  • Very subtle use in Spiderman but it is used to show tension in swinging which they really liked
  • Really fast, Spiderman loading is insane from menu to swinging (except weird occasions where it takes 15seconds and shows splash screens)
  • Forza and Gears loading on XSX load really quick, a bit faster than a PC SSD. But for people with a decent SSD on a top end gaming PC, it'll feel familiar. Spiderman loading feels 'different' in how quick it loads. Interesting to see if when a XSX game built for the SSD comes out, how close it gets.
  • UI is exciting at first but only a lick of paint, quickly underneath becomes the same as PS4 and the stuff that has been changed has been changed for the worst (they label is the 'get it out the fecking door' UI that they expect to evolve and improve in time)
  • They don't pick a UI they like most and say they are on par. Xbox lacks the excitement of a new UI but is really robust and mature. PS5 clumsy and can be confusing but lots more control (where Xbox makes it as easy as possible but less control). ('smart delivery' Vs 'not smart delivery' when it comes to game access)

 they both sound so much more next gen than the PS4 and xbone did.

Ya, can’t wait. The games will come for both, PS5 obviously a shorter wait. But it’s a great step for both

I have not been listening to GB lately. Was that Jeff Bakalar with the impressions?

I might as well ask in this thread, but is there anyone else in the whole world who does not notice HDR? I feel like I'm taking crazy pills. Everyone keeps banging on about it and I don't notice it.

Have you definitely got it turned on while on the hdmi channel? My mate didn't realise when he turns over on to hdmi1 and turns his Xbox on, the tv has seperate settings

It’s definitely noticeable, personally think it’s more of an enhancement for something to be HDR than 4K over 1080.

I’m not always the best at spotting things like that too. But play a game with good HDR like Spider-Man if you have it, then go to your tv menu and switch HDR on and off and you will certainly notice a difference. I have a Sony Bravia about 2-3 years old so not overly modern and it’s still very impressive

As I said, I notice a mild difference. Which is why I'm baffled when people bang on about it!

Have you got your eyes tested?

I remember not thinking much of SD to HD, then messing one night I threw on my now wife’s glasses, that’s the bombshell dropped that the clarity was unreal. Needed glasses for tv and night driving, was -1.05 in each eye and didn’t even realize it!

ya man! Couldn’t believe it. It was just stuff really close at the time. Cinema screen and stuff like that at the time was fine, sitting close to a TV not so much!

I knew there was an improvement to HD, but the glasses just enchanted the clarity and impressed me more thereafter

They do, but unless I'm mistaken the power of the console will not affect HDR.
It does when your console was the worst console in terms of performance and resolution last gen. Not surprised you think games look like garbage.

Get off COD and be a bit more cultured on Tuesday. Of course you gonna think every game is garbage when you only playing a game that’s based off a engine that’s nearly as old as you.

Like I said earlier, HDR uses HDMI 2 and 3, so what port number is your console connected to?

It's connected right. On my tv, it's called Deep colour or something. It even flashes HDR in the corner when you load up a game or movie.

And how do you know how old I am?!

A better word for me to use when describing HDR would be overrated. It makes a marginal difference. And when I hear other people talking about it, it makes me feel like my eyes don't work.

You didn’t buy the one x?

Disappointed. Anyway I’m interested to know what game you playing first on Tuesday.
Nope. One S and base PS4.

That's why this leap is going to be huge to me. Series X is definitely iterative and particularly over One X, but the difference to One S should hopefully be striking.

Ori first because it's the quicker to transfer. But early games are going to be Ori, Forza Horizon 4, Gears 5.

Halo MCC (after patch), Gears Tactics, Halo 5 and Fallen Order in the background perhaps. Hoping to convince a few to get one Sea of Thieves with me but not convinced it'll get much time.

FIFA, Rocket, COD I'll still be jumping on when certain mates are online. Tony Hawk's when I need something mindless.

Will be looking at Destiny 2 and Cyberpunk in December.

How about you?
