Cavani gets 3 match ban from FA for his social media post

A craven, cowardly decision by the FA that misses the point entirely. It is racial animus that we must oppose. Edinson was clearly not guilty of expressing racial animus.

If Cavani is still recovering from the muscle injury why not eat the ban now and get it over with, while we have a run of more winnable games before January descends upon us?

Yeah I would rather he served the ban before the showdown at Anfield even though Leicester, Wolves, Villa are tricky looking games

I love you, Professor Andreas Beck Holm. Thanks for having the eloquence and standing that I lack. He may just advance our case better than any of United's lawyers. Put this out there and shout it loudly. I don't know if he's a United fan, but if Cavani escapes a ban (like he rightly should), the good professor should get a box seat at the first game back with fans!
Yeah I admire him for trying to fight our corner but fear the FA want to send out a message on this one

So Cavani is looking at a potential ban but the booing crowd won't face anything?

Not sure how to feel about that.

Yep, let's just rip the bandage and accept the verdict now. The club can release a statement that sends the message that United oppose racism in all its forms and we all just move on. No one needs an explanation at this point that Cavani meant no abuse or harm whatsoever as it's obvious beyond all doubt. The FA are the ones who come out looking like morons in their persecution of Cavani and nothing more about it need be said or written.

As for the tricky games coming up, every opponent is tricky this season. We can't even bulldoze relegation bound clubs like Sheffield. Best to have Cavani ready for Liverpool, who I really don't believe would be able to cope with Cavani were he to come on in the 65th minute.

The Danish professor at the Department of Culture and Society, Andreas Beck Holm, has filed a complaint to FA due to FAs cultural racism towards Cavani.

Pasting in the full complaint here. I'm 100 % behind this. FA can't stand on a pedestal, telling the world that our culture is better than yours, and your sayings and customs are in fact racism. Did FA use google translate in this case?
A mic drop and a half from the Danish Prof. Go on son.

Would need to make sure we are still in the game for that to happen and of course him to be available too

I apologise if this article has been posted already, but there’s an interesting and hopefully positive read that’s just popped up on Stretty News.
https://strettynews.com/2020/12/19/...racism-after-charging-cavani-with-misconduct/

In a similar fashion, I did a search of the offending term on Spotify and was amazed by the number of search results. I dropped an email to the club as a long shot just in case it could help Edison’s defence.

If he said nothing wrong principally how can it be construed as bringing game into disrepute?

The crux of the issue is his ig post. He'll either not guilty of racist remakrs or he's guilty as racist remarks even if it's up to debate.
In his/our shoes I would be happy to concede that social media post was improper (or as the club carefully worded "could be construed" as such, thus deleting it). That alone qualifies as bringing the game into disrepute, let alone the aftermath in which we've been exposed to the opinions of any number of morons that make a living out of football (not Cavani's fault, but it's an outcome of his action).

Whether the remarks are racist applies to the second charge of aggravated breach.

I don't see anything that indicates what the punishment is to the charge. The FA could easily go for the minimum 6 games and skip taking into account mitigating factors.

And there's the matter of principle of accepting a misguided racism charge.

He didn't feck up and it's minimum 3 games.

3 games for doing nothing wrong. That's the FA for you.
Standard minimum is 6 unless the FA take into account mitigating factors to take it to 3. So far no sign they have any intention to do so.

Surely the quickness in taking the post down immediately when realising the mistake should have been factored by the FA.

Ironically, the FA is making the situation even worse by continuously putting the spotlight on a post that only last minutes that barely anyone saw.

Also, I wonder if this is FIFAs way of supporting Cavani as they just posted cavani world cup highlights on their YouTube channel. Edit: sorry cant post the youtube clip as im a newb.

Cavani has until the 4th to respond, presumably the punishment will be around that date as well ruling him out of the City SF, Watford in the FA cup and the game at Liverpool

Again why has it taken them so long?

Does it not apply to just league games

I don't believe that he meant it as a racist comment. But he is playing in England, for Manchester United and shouldn't have said it. Simple as that.

fecking hell, you sometimes forget how obsessed other fans are about United. People screaming for him to be banned for his handbags tonight. Some asking for a six match ban! Wonderful.

The Argentinian Academia des Letras (kind of in charge of the Spanish language in Argentina) have called on the FA to drop the charge and apologise for impugning Cavani's reputation;

Exactly, a nothing scuffle that didnt even deserve a yellow for both but you just know VAR would've sent Cavani off.

Can’t believe how people are making such a fuss about it, it was just a wrestle to the floor.

what shocked me more was how big 6’5 Mina fell to the floor like a wet sand castle, that was pathetic. I’d be embarrassed

I did laugh later on when Mina shoved Greenwood to the floor.

Tried it with someone (not even) your own size and have to resort to it with someone half your size later.

Still can't believe he'll get 3 matches for that tweet. The world has gone mad.
Don't bet on it. The Danish Professor and this Argentine Institute have properly stirred the hornet's nest. The FA are under a huge spotlight in this case.

Yep, had to restore his masculinity somewhere. Couldn’t believe how long he stayed down in the first half either when he got a bang on the nose. Either get up or get off the pitch ffs!
