I'm all for supporting Pogba and wanting the best for the club but let's not forget that Pogba is a guilty party in this too.

Pogba told a news conference on Thursday at France’s training camp, the day after their 7-1 friendly win over Ukraine. “Of course, every footballer would love to play for Real Madrid and would dream about that. It’s a dream of mine, so why not one day?

https://www.theguardian.com/footbal...-of-playing-for-real-madrid-manchester-united
Fair enough. I'd like to think he'd not have done that if United were challenging for major trophies but Ronaldo did it so who knows?

The breathtaking irony of the one player we'd all say lacks focus a lot of the time talking about needing focus!

It's good to hear the players believe we can win it though.
If they don't believe it, we'd have no chance.

They can pay 150m if he helps us win the league. No bad thing keeping a motivated Pogba in a winning team. Even better if he never gets his dream RM move tbh.

Difficult to listen to an inconsistent player talking about we need to be consistent. Good player on his day, but wanting to leave for 3+ years he isn't going to play his best. With Pogba in the side it means less chances for DvB, leaving DvB to question his decision to move to us in the first place, and looking to leave already.
We're top of the league with VDB not playing much.

Unless you think with him playing we'd be say 6-10 points clear instead of 3, I can't see how it's any sort of mistake not playing him much so far?

Pogba will leave this summer and I think it will be the best thing to happen for both parties. But what I will say though is there has been an agenda against him from day 1, which has shaped the way the fanbase has looked at his time with us the whole time. Who can forget how the press had labelled him a flop in his first year just after a couple of games (even though he was actually playing quite well)? Of course, he hasn't helped the cause by being incredibly inconsistent and letting his agent, brother and the like talk so much trash over the years.

Overall, though, I'd say he's not been even close to as bad as some make him out to be. And some of the irrational comments you find on him (even on this thread) are just so weird. Hopefully he can perform at a high level until the end of the season and he can at least finish his time with us on a high!

I can't argue with our position etc. But we have a player eager to play for us sat on the bench whilst we have a player that has wanted out for years starting and playing inconsistently. If DvB did turn out to be a dud then fair enough but he hasn't had a fair chance and when he does come on he daren't (my opinion) do a lot incase of giving the ball away.

Seems like he too jumped on our title bandwagon once it looked like we were top of the league
Erm, he’s not looking in from the outside. He’s part of why we are top of the league ffs.

The problem is, is that Pogba has that sheer quality, and can be a gamechanger.
The likes of McTom who are whole hearted but a bit limited, will always be favoured by fans more, but you need those quality players on top.

It's why we've struck gold with Bruno. He is both, which is rare.

I haven't seen enough of VDB yet. It's very easy to mistake him as being a pass it back to who he got it from merchant, but I dare say the times he's come on, or the lineups he's playing in haven't allowed him to show what he's about yet.
Big problem that he plays in our best player's position too.

I suppose it's when you see James or Mata starting wide in front of him, you wonder why he can't do that role and mix and match in the centre.

When's he said the wrong thing? Other than those cnut of an agent and those French interviews we never actually get to see.
Who does his agent work for though? He’s not saying it for no reason.

Add to that the fact that Pogba himself has said multiple times things that disrespect the club. Was it the start of last season he said he wanted a new challenge?

The guy has form basically. I’m just saying it’s nice to hear him saying positive things for a change.

Probably fantasising about his next haircut and dabbing :)

A nice goal tomorrow and us fickle bastards will declare his signing a masterstroke again though :)

Good to hear from him.

Pogba is a leader and a galvanising force in any social situation. His personality is too big for that not to be the case.

When his attitude is bad (as it has been for 4 years at United), he's also bad influence on the dressing room for those who follow him. But when his attitude is good, the same followers get a boost from his leadership. This distincion is why the comparisons between United-Pogba and France-Pogba often miss the point.

It's taken a long time to get here. But if Pogba can inspire United to the title, it'll easily wipe out the years of him supposedly being a 'virus' (which may have been harsh, but probably not completely devoid of truth).

I don't understand how he seems to love United, and be happy playing then Raiola comes out with the opposite, strange situation.

Hopefully United get some good momentum and keep winning.
I dont trust Pogba and I believe hes "come good" in order to ensure he gets his move to Juve or where ever, but if he continues to perform as he has done the last few games, the way we've all been wanting him to ever since he returned to United, I'll take it, and if he helps us win the Prem or finish second and win the FA Cup I'll thank him and wish him arrivederci. But I dont trust him.

Not from a lack of trying
He’s hardly tried to force his way out either. Several transfer windows have come and gone since people have been singing this same song and they have all been largely uneventful. For all Raiola’s talk, he’s barely stirred anything up during a window and tried to orchestrate a move. One of those windows we even received an official bid from Real, which we rejected and there was no attempt to force anything from Pogba.

But then why is it that every time there's an interview of one of our players where they're asked about Pogba, they always mention he's as a positive influence in the dressing room? Off the top of my head, I can think of Bruno, Fred, McTominay, Shaw all stating this. The "negative" attitude that Pogba supposedly has when things are not going well sounds like a myth to me

Pogbas career could go either way at this point. He's approaching 28, if he can find himself in a setup that works for him and he can switch on that focus he could probably have 3 years of world class performance. After that I think his inconsistent nature would reappear.

Do you have any examples of them saying he was a 'positive influence'?

They've only said he was friendly and influential as far as I'm aware. There's been nothing to suggest it was positive. Hell, you only have to look at what happens on the pitch to see that wasn't the case.

On the flipside, one of his two managers called him 'virus' and the other made him a rotation option for smaller games.

We really need this guy to step up tomorrow. If I see him getting out skilled by Henderson and Wijnaldum (two players nowhere near his skill level) I'm giving up watching football.

No doubt Henderson is going to be running round like a headless chicken shouting all sorts. It'd be really nice to see Pogba show why he's levels above these types of players tomorrow.

My prediction: A Liverpool win with Henderson MOTM. I'd love to be proved wrong though!

Quite literally has never had a bad word spoken about him by current or former teammates for club and country yet I assume you're much more in the know and a better judge of his character from afar...

Every player says the same thing about his positive dressing room influence and you can see it out there, every story that leaked about his supposed unhappiness always made sure to include lines stating that he's still popular in the squad regardless.

The problem isn't how hard he works in training, or how popular he is in the dressing room, or how cool the other kids in class think he is.

The issue is his reaction to winning/losing, his attitude when the going gets tough during competitive games, and the fact his focus is lacking when the teammates turn to him for leadership. Look at my earlier post to see what I mean. None of your examples address what I was referring to. And compare his influence to Bruno's to see the difference.

Michaelangelo might have bee the most well liked Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle, but Splinter chose Leonardo to be the leader for a reason. If Leo had had Michaelangelo's attitude, Skinner would have taken over New York ages ago. That's basically what Klopp did in the PL when Pogba was our only franchise player. Mane and Salah are Beebop and Rocksteady in this analogy.

Pretty sure you can find good quotes about Lingard as well

Last time when he was really focus throughout a competition (for a month), he won the WC. Then there was about 1-2 months of him staying really focus after Mourinho got sacked, and he was arguably the best player in the league for a short while. We all know he was very inconsistence in the past, so lets hope he can somehow stay focus for more than 1-2 months and win us the league this time.

‘Paul Pogba sparks fury amongst United fans in controversial interview where he speaks of squad needing to focus in order to win PL title’

Also I've learnt from redcafe that an unfocused and inconsistent player should not speak about requiring focus and consistency to win the league.:houllier:

Have you just made this up? Pogba hates when others get attention?? When in his career has he ever showed this? He gracefully accepted palyign a supporting role to Bruno with not a single complaint and quite the opposite, even Bruno has spoken of how supportive Pogba has been towards him.

Why are you inventing these narratives?
You don't think his bad attitude has ever been evident on the pitch? Even under Ole he's had games where he's looked like he couldn't be arsed.

He moaned and we've moved him into a role where he gets more freedom and yeah he's looked the better player for it. I still don't think we should accept a player only giving it his all when he feels like it though.

He's a fair weather player that likes attention and hates when others get it. Hopefully he carries on his good performances and then leaves us in the summer.
It was only a couple of games ago, it might have been v Leicester, when he pulled out of jumping for a 50/50 ball, and not too long before that when he was falling on his arse and waving to the ref every time an opposition player looked sideways at him. Now, suddenly he's one of top performers, just after his agents outburst about him wanting away, which Pogba has still not refuted or confirmed. I for one wont be sorry to see him go.

All this stuff about Pogbas recent, very recent, uplift in form, performance and consistency being the reason we are becoming a challenge to Liverpool is totally disrespectful to the senior players who have worked hard in difficult circumstances the last few years; ie changes of managers and coaching staff, the introduction of new players, many of them young and inexperienced, and then the pressures of playing during covid. They have all stuck to the task and though some may not have Pogbas undoubted skills they have heart, desire, passion and ambition which he has only now started to come anywhere near. Yes there have been times when some of these players messed up, became down hearted or lost form but they kept going and the younger players have benefitted from them and their experiences far more than they could have been by anything Pogba has done on the pitch. Pogba can be play a big part in us having a great season, but until now his contribution to the cause has been decidedly lacking.

Looks good. Especially like him helping bruno to find a house.

But how many bad words have been spoken about team mates?

Surely we could compile a list like this for most United players?

I think we may end up seeing the best of pogba in the second half of this season, he has been well rested compared to most big names in the first half of this congested season and poogba seems like the type of personality that only truly becomes motivated when there is a realistic chance of achieving a noteworthy piece of glory like he had with juventus, so the longer we stay in the title race picture the more of a consistent side we will see from him.

Come on...these guys, including an opposition player, are going into detail about what makes him great. Its the details that make the difference between meaningless platitudes and genuine compliements.

And even when Mourinho called him a virus, he was precisely referring to his influence.

It's a bit of a double edged sword then - the better his form the better change we have of staying in the title race (if your assumption is true).
Basically, he needs to deliver. This is his stage, he's got the perfect chance to deliver.

I can't really remark on what Pogba may or not have said or did in the changing room, the training field, the entrance tunnel or anywhere else but on the pitch and, in the 4 plus years he's been back he simply hasnt performed consistently well enough on the pitch. Also, the reason we are first in the Prem is not because of Pogba, his recent good form has coincided with our run of good results, not the other way around. If Pogba can maintain consistency and play something like he has done for Juve and France, then we might see something of the player we all thought we were getting when we signed him, but I wont hold my breath.
