Tbf, a-lot of Leicester fans on here maintained Chilwell was good but not amazing, and this was long before he left.
The salt over Maguire was bloody hilarious, though. The opinions on him greatly changed when he left and apparently Evans was always better.
I've never been a big fan of Chilwell. I think there's plenty of posts on here from me last season saying that he's our weak link in defense (though I didn't put it as kindly as that).
I was always a fan of Maguire, and I'd have been happy to keep him. However, I don't think many opinions changed on Maguire. This seems to be wishful thinking on the part of Man Utd fans, since they'd just splashed out 80m on a player.
If you go to FoxesTalk, you can see the 'average' of match ratings given to players over a season. In the one season they played together, Ricardo was our player of the season (average rating of 6.7). Evans was our second best performer (with an average rating of 6.6). Maguire was our 8th best performer, with a rating of 6.2. That's not 'salt' or 'hindsight' - that's how they were viewed at the time.
People just assume it's 'sour grapes' because for the most part, they have no idea what other fans think - they just see his fancy passing/dribbling highlights on MOTD, see the pundits bigging him up, see that he played for England, and presume he must have been our best defender. If you'd asked at the time, most Leicester fans would have said otherwise. He always had a clanger in him, while Evans was much more reliable, which is what you want from a defender.

(Link for proof. I discounted Tielemans, Ward and Choudhury because they played so few games)
