Is Jadon Sancho really worth the 100 plus million fee?

All these sayings about how we dodged a bullet because he was too expensive, I bet if he was our player we'd be at the top of the league right now,

I'd be surprised for us to go back in for him tbf. If this season has taught us anything, it's that a top class striker is required. Haaland would be a more important signing than Sancho imo.

They're both massively important. We can't ignore the RW spot again, and Cavani has made it blatantly clear what we've been lacking.

The only footballer in the world who is worth 100 plus million right now is probably Haaland, that's the only player that is worth breaking the bank for.
But if his agent wasn't Raiola, he would be a United player right now instead of a Dortmund player.

What sort of bullet is Sancho to dodge?! you'd think he'd turned into Heskey or something.
Because he would end up costing about 1 or 2 whole seasons worth of transfer funds, stop us signing other players and is clearly not yet a sure thing?!

It's also taught us that a RW still is much required. Maybe we didn't go all the way for Sancho because Ole thought Greenwood would suffice at RW this season. At the time that seemed reasonable, but as we now see, that's not working out at all.

I think Ole would be very tempted to give Diallo some serious minutes in the second half of the season to see if he could make the step already, making buying Sancho unnecessary.

I think we will go back for him though.

Wouldn't be surprised, and the total fee will probably still be in excess of €100m so that Dortmund can save face, but it'll be structured differently so that it's say €70m up front with the rest subject to targets, and the full price dependant CL wins, Ballon D'or etc.

So prepare for the usual media "price paid plus add-ons plus Utd media tax" nonsense a la Sanchez (£500k per week! And that's net of tax!!!)

No he wouldn't  if we were willing to offer 90m last summer, and still do other business, he'll be around that price again if not cheaper, so what's this 1 or 2 whole seasons worth of transfer funds math coming from. We're not Liverpool, we've got a lot more to spend.

Do you think they will go for sancho now that they have diallo and pellistri? That would leave us with three players all within 2 years of each other in age, equal potential, in the same position ...

Such question can only be answered at the end of the season when Diallo has played. I don't see Pellistri making much if any impact on the first team this season, he'll be a question mark for a little while longer.

Personally, and controversially perhaps, I still wouldn't adversed to signing him for the LW even if Diallo is an absolute beast. Because I think he'd deliver better than Martial and link up well with the current version of Shaw we're seeing at the moment. Sancho is versatile, exactly what Ole seems to like from his forwards.

Of course this is ignoring what would happen to Rashford, but I'm just throwing ideas out there, clearly Rashford is rightfully one of the first names on the team sheet and long may that continue.

What do you reckon Ole's plans are in regard to a CDM because can't help thinking we are still way too short in that area with Matic the only proper one in the squad and he can't play every week. I appreciate that Fred & Scott can do a holding role but really need to sign someone who can do the job on their own.
I think it depends on what skillset Ole wants from a CDM. Does he want another Matic to sit in front of the back four? Does he want a young Carrick who can win the ball but also provide defence splitting passes for the counter attack? Or does he want a Kante type player who will go searching for the ball, not sit in position but chase down higher up the pitch and allow Utd quicker transitions closer to opponents goal?

Also if we lose Pogba this summer then we lose his ability for that long pass from deep in midfield. DVB has a different skillset. So how do we replace that long pass from midfield? Theres also the question of height. Both Pogba and Matic are tall. Useful in winning first balls from goal kicks and defending/attcking corners. Loose Matic as well then Mctominey is our only 6 foot plus midfielder.

Therefore i dont think its as straightforward as buy player X. It depends on what Ole wants player X to be able to do and whether he is a replacment for Pogba or Matic.

What do you think?

This is what i've been saying for a while and him being naturally right footed makes him a ideal candidate for the role on the left. One of our youth coaches in England, Dan Micciche who has worked with Sancho at junior national level believes he's best suited to playing on the left. Also it's important to remember that his dip in form possibly coincided with Hakimi leaving which has possibly impacted his performance.

I believe the coaching staff have the belief that Amad Diallo will be a our RWF long-term because he's naturally left footed and provides a natural balance on the right and is adept with his weaker foot. You don't spend the amount the club have on Diallo to see him used as the back up long-term. I hope the club sign either Grealish or Sancho because imo they have the craft and guile which we lack on the left currently and both players potentially are really good to watch due to their high technical level especially in close quarters.
You have to remember that half the Diallo fee is add-ons. It's basically what we spent on Dalot and James otherwise.

£20m is still a lot for a player that hasn't started a game at first team level. It would make little sense to me to sign him for £20m and then wait 3 months for him to arrive and then proceed to sign someone more established. And Sancho for me isn't a RW player long term and is naturally best suited to playing on the left. Diallo is naturally a inverted wide forward for the RW and I believe the club will give him every opportunity to make the spot his own. Whether he lives upto the faith placed in him remains to be seen. But I would personally hope we still go out and sign Sancho or Grealish for the left and try Rashford through the middle again. Sancho could still fill in at RW if needs be but he probably won't have the same impact as he had last season due to having a very attack minded Hakimi, playing behind him.

Sancho is on fire right now. Incredible assist for Haaland's second goal.

Two nice assists. One from the left and the other from the right.

Not sure if the Diallo signing changes our recruitment priorities but I'd still love to see him in our attack.

Best thing is that those arrogant fecks in the Dortmund front office will likely be forced to take less than the 100m we offered them last summer given the state of their club at the moment

Very quiet second half when Marco Rose shut up shop in a 4-2 win for Gladbach. Dortmund now 5th and it looks a battle between Leverkusen, Dortmund and Gladbach for the 3rd and 4th spot.

Dialup or not, if we were chasing him last summer we should be in for him again this one.

If we’re not it further shows our scattergun approach to transfers; you don’t go from nearly spending £90mil on a guy one year to suddenly nothing the next imo - he started the season poorly but he’s a top player.
