I do know that,.. Lingard is not as bad as some people make out, and given West Ham are only 5 points off us, then it's a risk imo, Moyes for all his faults is no mug, and hasn't taken him if he doesn't think it can improve them somehow, so yes I am worried that this could bite us on the bottom at some potentially.

And £1.5 million + wages, so what, it's just another amount of money that gets swallowed up into the black hole, personally for that I'd rather Lingard trained everyday with us on the off chance we need him, even if he ultimately ends up not playing.
Lingard simply has no use here, he's proven that pretty clearly in the last seasons. Even if we enter an injury crisis there are plenty players ahead of him. West ham are only 5 points behind but feck me if we have to worry about freaking West Ham having Lingard then we are in serious trouble.

Not so sure there is really, and West Ham shoudn't be threat, but it's a mad season, built on fine margins, so stranger things have happened than us hitting a rough patch, and Jesse finding his Jose form with West Ham, I just see it a pointless transfer given the money we are getting.

It's official.

Let's see how he fares. I'm not sure if he'll be in their starting XI in every match, but he'll most likely play a key part in West Ham's season.

Genuinely hope he does well after what he's been through personally.

Hope he does well for his sake but hope I never see him in a United shirt again.

Behind the right goal post as "Whiteside shoots!"
Yeah, we loaned him out on our terms with 0 compromise. I'd say that's a big plus for us. It helps that Moyes is the manager as he'd probably have been quite keen on Lingard.
Pellistri getting minutes (hopefully) and Rojo gone (good luck/hopefully we're not paying wages).

Not a bad transfer window and hopefully the Jesse fee and wage savings (several million) helps a little towards a Summer buy (Haaland please)

Ole saying hes going there to build his confidence so he can come back and play for Utd. Bullshit or real?

“We want Jesse to come back here revitalised and having shown at West Ham how good a player he is, of course,” the United boss said of Lingard, whose contract was recently extended until 2022.
“He’s just been unfortunate with a couple of issues — some periods that he had to stay away from us with the Covid and isolation, with the close contact. The rest of the team has done well. We’ve had little to no injuries and he’s not forced his way into the team, unfortunately.
I just want him to go there and enjoy himself, show how good a player he is and come back. He a Man United player through and through.”

Don’t see him breaking into their team. Their first choice options are Bowen, Benrahma and Fornals. Followed by Lanzini and Yarmolenko. Don’t think he’s better than any of those 5.

Just giving the lad confidence, no way will he return, not to play for us anyhow.

Amad Diallo took his spot just after he was registered by United. That should tell you everything you need to know.

The fact someone was willing to pay a loan fee bodes well. If he puts in some decent performances we may get a nice little transfer fee.

can he play against us?
He's not. The United article on this loan move alludes to that regarding his ability to face us in the FA Cup.
In addition to being ineligible for the Emirates FA Cup fifth-round tie with his parent club at Old Trafford next month, the Academy product was not signed in time to make his debut for his new side in Sunday afternoon's big home game against Liverpool.
EDIT: I forgot about the fact that he's cup-tied.

Ole speak for he’s nowhere near the team and I haven’t given him a squad number but I’d really like to get a few million quid for him in the summer.

Cup tied. We've got a league game against them at some point though, right?
He's cup tied in the FA cup so would have been ineligible regardless of opposition.
Right, I forgot about that. Thanks for the correction.

We have yet to face West Ham at Old Trafford. Typically, our loans don't involve our players playing against us, but Lingard's case is exceptional in that he's not a young, developing player (memes aside). In this case, we shall see.

Good move for him. He wasn’t going to play for us. If he can break into their first team and score some goals he should get his confidence back.

To correct those who have mentioned, he isn't a local lad.

Hope this loan spell shows Lingard's true ability and puts an end to the myth that he is a talented footballer.

So how would you define Local Lad?

Warrington is only 13 miles from Old Trafford.

Its only about 17-18 miles from Anfield too. But I doubt if he played for Liverpool they'd consider him a scouser. Does anyone consider him a Manc, i don't know.

Surely to be considered a local Manchester lad/boy you'd have to actually be from Manchester or at least greater Manchester?

That can't be right surely.

He's the localest of local lads. Never has a local boy been more local to Old Trafford. They say he could see the Stretford end from his bedroom window.

Warringtons in Trafford right?

It’s an interesting question, but not something I’ve got a strong view on. The Nevilles are from Bury, which is a bit nearer than Warrington. Yet I know folk from Bury who regard themselves as “true Lancastrians” and hate being associated with Manchester

Your observation about Anfield is a good one. The west side of Warrington is infested with Scouse scallies.

Me either mate, but i think a lot on here genuinely think he's from Manchester for some reason.

Lingard can "play" and when I say play I dont mean perform but for the sake of it let's say play in Bruno's place and as a RW. For Bruno's place we have him obviously then VDB, and Mata. If for some strange reason all the three of them were unavailable we could play Pogba there too. So that's 4 injuries that should happen so Lingard would be required. For the RW spot we have Greenwood, if he's injured or unavailable we play Rashford there, if we want to play Rashford in another position then we got Daniel James and Mata. I know its underwealming but they're better options than Lingard. So again we have 4 options to use before playing Lingard.

If we hit a rough patch and the difference between West Ham and us is Lingard then we don't deserve to finish above them. As simple as that, we are loaning a nothing player to them.

I think you've nailed it.

Lingard is English and Fred is Brazilian. Fred gets more 'cool points' on this forum because of his nationality.

Also, as you say, Fred's qualities are almost entire summed up by his passion and personality. His quality is lacking beyond that.
It's an incredibly weird comparison anyways. They play different positions, different skillsets, totally different players so why even pick Fred to pick on? Might as well compare and think we should sell McTominay instead of Lingard because he has scored less goals or something.

Freds quality on the ball is superior to Lingard in a deeper midfield role, and probably not that far off if they switched positions. I think Fred would be better as a 10 than Lingard would be as a 6. Fred is a better workhorse 6 than Lingard is as a workhorse 10 or 8.
