Nah, as it was 7-0 until about 90mins, we did brilliantly to get 2 late doors, and match the Ipswich game.

That one was probably better, as while they were a much worse team, they weren't down to 10 for 91mins, and down to 9 for 15-20
The second red was actually in the 87th minute mate.

Great performance and result. I was so pleased to see us go for the jugular for the whole 90 minutes, instead of easing off when 4-0 up. The early sending off helped, but how many times have we struggled to break down a resolute defence, when a team goes down to ten men and packs their defence? We should have had a penalty in the first half, but offside for their "goal" and the second red card were harsh. That said, something approaching ten minutes stoppage time should have been added, not three.

9-0 is a Premier League record equalling score. The media would be creaming themselves if anyone else had got that, but instead BT, including former Southampton manager Glenn Hoddle, couldn't stop whining about the second red card. As if it affected the overall outcome ffs! For me, a bigger injustice was when Romeu committed an awful foul on Greenwood last season and escaped punishment, when they held us to a 2-2 draw, but unsurprisingly the media made little of that.

That was nice.

Only 3 minutes added time when VAR and restarts had probably exceeded 10 minutes was merciful. Thought the pen was a dive, but then I thought the Cavani one was a pen, as he had his foot planted on the line and their player ran down his foot with his challenge and onto a foot placed in the box. I also think the ref blew immediately which would have put Greenwood off as the play developed and he had a one on one with the keeper.

Cavani MOTM for me, followed closely by Shaw. Maguire kept things ticking nicely as did Scott.

edit: also noticed de Gea being a bit more assertive in the box for their early corners.

excellent performance, yes was against 10 men for the whole match basically but that ain't our faults, but had tempo and a bit more urgency, was ruthless as well, no complaints tonight,

We need Shaw to stay fit if we want to challenge for the title. He is very important to our play and Telles is not the same quality.

This season key players are Bruno, Shaw, Pogba and Rashford (his form dropped in the last few weeks).

When was the last time we’ve had both our fullbacks involved in goals in the same game? Genuinely feels shocking! What a difference it makes.

"Contact" isn't the standard; fouling is. Was Martial fouled? No. Martial dragged his leg and went over without any help from Bednarek. Martial should have been booked.
If that's the case, Slippy G would never have had a penalty given in his favour, he was a "master" at doing just that.

I think it was a penalty, there was contact on Martial which means it's a penalty.

Sadly the scoreline is what it was so it feels brutal, but the law is the law.

You can't 'take pity' because of a scoreline, the game is done by the book, arguments could be made about the red, but even then it was denying a clear goalscoring opportunity too.
No pity, that's a clear dive from Martial. He was going down before he even got rubbed against, cause that's what it was. Can't call that contact.

Aside from the goals , the ref was just awful, can anyone explain how McGuire and especially Van Der Beek got yellows, DVB don’t think he actually touched a Southampton player, astounding refereeing.

Our fullbacks — both of them — were outstanding. Staying the obvious, if both our fullbacks can consistently put in performances like this, we can stand up with any club on the planet.

No Pogba, either. Incredible.

Bednarek changed his focus 100 % from the ball to Martial before contact.

Probably didn't help his cause.

When he then touched Martials heel it makes a "clear" penalty.

Even if Martial went down like he was in a hurry.

Listen does anyone get why Ferdinand and co went on and on and on about VAR and the peno, after McT nearly had his goolies kicked into the Stretty and basically the Saints just self destructed?

The lack of a crowd really told too. But that was almost painful watching their defenders - the lost hopeless expressions

Seen a Southampton fan on Reddit say that Jankewitz handed in a transfer request last week. That puts a different light on that tackle!

That was so fun ,and we sure needed something like this with all the negative vibes recently.

I do feel awful for the young man and that red. He knew it was totally deserved and went right away to Scott, he looked stunned. I hope he bounces back quickly.

Only one thing was in my mind after the 4th goal. Goal difference.
I was thinking about the next game. Should we rest Cavani and play Martial, chance to boost Martial's confidence. Any players has minor injury concern. Rest Bruno and play Pogba.

We were handed a golden opportunity to score a hatful and we did. Fair play to them for that.
Now let's see the same attitude against the Toffees.
Sour note, Martial dived, it wasn't a pen & Bednarek should not have seen red.

Excellent stuff, not holding back at all. What we needed. Want something depressing? After a 9-0 we're NOW equal to Pool's GD :/

Still, a night worth celebrating.

I think it was intelligent play by Martial to allow his trailing leg to be clipped by Bednarek for the pen. Bednarek was always going to get in contact with Martial as he was behind him. Martial's first touch was admittedly awful and he salvaged something from the situation well.

Winning 9-0 is amazing.

Southampton first red was absolutely disgusting , a 3 match ban hardly seems enough. looked like Martial dived so fairly sure Southampton second red will be overturned.

Well, that was rather fun!

Luke Shaw was incredible again. What has gotten into him? This is the best he's looked since he's arrived IMO. Looks like Robertson going forward out there lately. Very exciting development if it keeps up.

Everyone was getting in on it today. I honestly felt a bit bad for Southampton. I quite like them, possibly my favorite smaller club. Their goal ruled offside was pretty harsh, and the red and pen at the end were pretty unfortunate. I am glad we kept our foot on their throats but did feel a little for them by the end. If only that was Arsenal instead at the end.

Finally a game which didn't have the nerves in a state.

I actually thought Maguire was very good on the ball, kept it moving and played some really nice passes.

It was obviously easier to do playing vs 10, but I think he does that against 11 more when he has Bailly beside him. In games where we need to break down the deep blocks, worth playing him with Bailly to make the most of the space he may get by the oppo constantly trying to track our forward line.
