Robbie Keane would still be better than any of the strikers in the current squad. In fact they should bring Tony Cascarino back as well!

What on earth has happened to Irish football?
We wasted our best generations with managers who managed to convince the general public that our players weren't capable of playing football, all while the FAI acted like a bunch of cowboys who cared more about the suits than the players. Now we actually have a manager who wants to try to play but the quality of players has fallen off because grassroots football in this country is a joke.

This is maybe one of the most accurate depictions of Irish football. When I think of how talented the team was in the early 2000s and were stuck with Mick McCarthy

20 years of Delaney at the head of Irish football might be the reason, Dublin GAA taking a lot of the top class kids it’s all coincided with a 10 in a row
The thing is, our underage teams have been quality over the last decade. And you’d expect them to decline first if the talent was being stifled by a recent decline in the domestic game. Plus our grass roots football and local academies were all a hell of a lot worse when the Keanes etc were coming through.

This is just an unusually shit generation of Irish players (worst ever?). With much more talent in the generations before and after them.

More proof we need proper investment in the Irish leagues. There are hurling players in Ireland that could have put this Luxembourg team away in a game of soccer.
