There are some rumours flying about that David Moyes wants him at West Ham? I don't believe it's true but with the success of Lingard, West Ham may hope he has some sort of impact there? Jones may also be looking at Lingard and think I can restart my career with a new club just the way Lingard did.

Saying that, I sadly think Jones is just happy to sit around and pick up his wages and not bother playing. He is contracted for another 2 years, he can just sit there and pick up his £100,000/week wages till then and he can retire happily as he would be set for life and not have to worry about picking up any more injuries.

Does seem that way unfortunately for him, his style of play is just too aggressive for his body.
That's my biggest disappointment with Jones he looked so promising but raw at 19. But 10 years later he's largely the same player, throwing himself in to tackles, charging out of position to make interceptions etc. He basically hasn't developed as a player, that has been a problem for many players but more so for Phil because as you point out his style probably contributes to a lot of his constant injuries. He's 29 now and could be 30-31 by the time he leaves United, I can see him getting another short term contract somewhere but unless he starts playing smarter to avoid injury then I don't see his career lasting too long post United. I can guarantee he won't find a club willing to pay him year after year for 15-20 games.

Everything is relative. He might have businesses, house and car payments, school fees etc. Yes he's obviously richer than most of us, but it won't take long to eat that away if you're used to a certain type of living.

Anyway, the club probably thought he was over his issues but they seem to just be getting worse. His knee must be pretty messed up if it's taken him this long to return.
Hmmm. Can I afford a fifth Ferrari this year? Probably just have to do with the 4.

Yeah I could see how it would be hard to live on 30 million with a certain type of living.

I appreciated his effort but as you say the best defenders just win things cleanly and rarely put themselves in a dangerous position.

He was throwing his head, legs and body into 50/50's, flying into tackles at full speed but coming off worse etc. Maybe when you're younger you can get away with it, but I guess it's started to catch him up.

He was so highly rated when was young, it's a bit strange to see how he turned out to be a bit of a "joke" and just known for his silly faces.

I'm not sure why it bothers so many people. It's not like he's fit and not putting in the required effort, or a bad influence around the place.

The club made an error giving him such a lengthy renewal, but until he's fit we can neither use him or try to sell/loan him.

I bet he'd like nothing more than to be contributing to the squad.
It's an easy stick to beat the club with from the incompetence angle.

The problem with United is not knowing when to cash in on players, Jones should have been sold years ago during either one of Van Gal's last season and Jose's first, Personally i lost all hope in him when he put up that disastrous performance last season i think it was againt Sheffield United, he has cost us more games than he has helped us win, imo United should be more ruthless in terms if getting ride of players who can't pull their own weight.

I really feel for the guy, he always seemed to give us his best, even though it often wasn't enough. But at this point he should do a van Basten (unless he's on the verge of a miraculous recovery), he has missed what, around 1,5 consecutive seasons at this point? I genuinely can't remember the last time he played for us.

As for his contract... sadly, it was just as predictable as our loss against Olympiacos under Moyes.

Last played pre pandemic against Tranmere.

And he scored.

Should have known there and then something awful was going to happen to us all.

He's probably semi-retired at this point.

Has the club ever decided not to have a testimonial for someone who was here over ten years?

I like Jones, not sure if he’s earned a testimonial though.
Not sure if serious. In TEN seasons the guy has managed 165 league matches and 224 games overall

Maguire is in his second season with us and has already made 102.

If anything Jones should be reimbursing the club for all the money he has taken out of it.

So, have the testimonial & the recipient of the revenue is the club?

That sounds fair.

Yeah agree.

On top of that I think the accumulation of mistakes and injuries have knocked him and he's now less confident than he was at 19. He always looks panicked to me.

Plus he was already a big lad on first arrival but he seems to have got really top heavy and unbalanced as the years have gone on. I'm sure he'd benefit from laying off the weights a bit.

It's a real shame and now lots will have forgotten how good he was as a young player.

Feck me. They “spotted” him. Like a rare bird. Did it occur to the social media gonk that they’re actually employed by the same club? Would it kill them to let us know what the feck is wrong with him?
I know what’s wrong with him, he’s shite but in contract!

I think they would yes. We have never got to see them paired together much since Jones has like 1-2 games with Maguire.

Lindelöf is quality though and him and Jones worked fairly well as a pair.

Not his biggest fan, far from it but wish the lad a speedy recovery.
Speedy could be too much for the scale of complications, at this point we don't even know for sure if he'll return to professional football for good.

I wish Fish or Mengi step up someday and finally end the era of constantly damaged defenders in United.

Up to recently I forgot he was even contracted with us anymore. Kinda feel sorry for him but the guy is just a cripple, better off down in the championship, salvage some of his career at least.

IIRC he rejected the testimony himself and said only his mom and dad would come, He was quoted saying: Who else would show up?

That's sad. So he knows he gets slated by the fans? I think a fair bit would turn up though.

How sad is that? Having spent all your playing career almost at the same club, won titles and been lauded as the biggest talent since Edwards you are left with the feeling no one really likes you.

Yeah he still got support from lots of fans. Just internet fans being a bit more harsh I think and question if he even want to play and things like that.

Even though people also say stupid things they may in reality actually support him when pushed.

Yes like the match day thread. When push cones to shove I would say most fans would back the players. I always thought he was a decent talent. If only he could play.

It is the same with managers. Even though people are Ole out, Mourinho out, Van Gaal out, Moyes out etc we all want them to do well and prove us wrong.
Particular when it comes to win titles and ideally get number 21.

Exactly. The frustration boils when things do not go our way. I am sure that there is no United fan who doesn't want Ole to succeed.

it has been going on for so long no one can remember it now.
But it's so vague ever since last spring - I really would like to know what the deal is. One must assume it was a pretty catastrophic injury.

They say his last injury is his knee.
