Do we extend Ole's contract?

Nope. Go hard in the transfer market this summer, and make a push for the title with him next season. No reason to sack him now, but equally no reason to extend him now either.

Of course we do. Anyone saying otherwise is reacting to this result. He's done enough and shown enough progression to not go into a season in the last year as that just causes disruption.
Has he?

One year left on Ole's contract. Do we give him till the end of next season and risk unsettling him or do we secure him for a little bit longer in case he turns out alright?
Personally, no I don't think so. Fickle this sport. If he got the trophy, I'd say maybe. Let's see what he does with his last year.
He has this ability to do just enough to keep the axe from falling, then put a string of results together, only for it to come down crashing again, and rinse and repeat.

He can't get a new contract. Zidane leaving Madrid, Conte leaving Inter these are clubs with a level of ambition or a manager who is a pure winner. If we really are a top club we need to get a top manager end of. How can you give a new contract to a manager who hasn't won anything, lost 4 semi-finals and 1 final. We aren't Leeds, we're Manchester United.

Definitely not but I think the club will think otherwise and will be getting it extended soon.

NO.

Especially now that Zidane is about to leave Real. Semi-official.

No. Been saying it. Treat his next contract like you are appointing a new manager. And the criteria for a manager for us right now is if he has the ability to win us trophies. Ole hasn't shown he has and a night like this was a good opportunity. Back him and give him till January and evaluate.

No reason to hurry it. Let's see how he does next season before making a decision.

Yeah exactly. We see how next season goes, and by the end we either renew, or amicably part ways with the acceptance that he left us in a better place than he got us.

There is still time.

Give him a transfer pouch for 2 players at least.

Judge him after the first 10 games of the season. If we are in touching distance of top, good, give him a 3 year contract.

Why now? It's not like any other clubs clamor for his "managerial" skills. And if things go tits up, it'd cost a small fortune to fire him.

He should not be offered a new contract. Let’s see how he’s doing in January/February before committing ourselves.

Absolutely no way

I'd even consider waving goodbye in the summer, like they did with LVG who at least won us the FA Cup

This isn't a knee jerk reaction, I've long said he's laid some good foundations but has taken us as far as he can. My only issue is who do we appoint instead?

He's too timid, not just tonight but there are games we have drawn this season and should have won, eg the Liverpool game they were there for the taking with all their injuries if he'd been a bit braver. You know DDG is bad at penalties, sub him off for Henderson then.

If it was the CL final and we'd lost to Bayern or something, fair enough, but we effectively lost to Burnley, as Emery got his tactics spot on

Yes he may not have trusted the bench, but players like DVB are his signings. If he'd rotated him in a bit more throughout the season (in the process resting Bruno) could he have been there to be counted on and used tonight?

Yes we got 2nd, but bar City everyone else was truly awful

It's time to thank him for what he's done, and wave goodbye

Guaranteed its extended though. Also with Ed leaving, surely he shouldn't be making such a crucial decision? Surely his replacement can decide in January.

Theory is that we hopefully have a good transfer window, and then see if Ole can take us up a level after it because a lot of our problems this season have been due to a lack of depth and the poor start due to not being fit enough. If not, let him go.
So if he gets Sancho, will he bench Rahsford and play Sancho in his best position on the left?

Is he gonna find a better keeper than Henderson and De Gea?

What are the plans for the midfield that has been disjointed during his time as a manager?

I love Ole but he and his crew are no where near good enough as coaches. Ole's job at this point is to provide cover for our douche bag owners. He ain't going anywhere until next season when they need a fall guy.

Absolutely no. He's done a good-ish job so far, but does he have it in him to take the next step? 3 years with no trophy, but back to back CL qualifications... he's done the bare minimum so far, but failing to win a trophy really is a huge blow.

He'll stay another season, but if we fail to win a trophy next season and seriously challenge for the title he should be replaced. Top 4 isn't enough anymore.

Because I'm not a knee-jerker I say, yes, give him a three year extension.

He's improving this club both on and off the field. Tonight just shows how right he was when he said we need new players. Hopefully we actually get some for the first team, not just squad players. We cannot have a window like last year and expect to progress. Ole did well to go from 3rd to 2nd with just about the same team. Time for proper investment is now.

We do mot even learn from opponents. Look at Chelsea, Lampard is their proper legend, they saw he can not take them forward, got rid. But here at United, things move slower than Soviet bureaucracy. He needs to be fired like right now.

Trust me, there won't be a queue of top clubs lining up to sign Ole if we don't extend his contract this summer.

He gets a pass a lot of the time because of his history at our club. Any other top European club and he would be gone now.

If he really must stay......don't think about extending anything until next summer.

Ask yourselves, is there another big club that rewards managers like we do? For such little return, jizzing over a 2nd place finish never looking like challenging for the title?

And why? Who is going to "steal" ole from us? Like what is the rationale?

He'll get a new deal no doubt (probably less money than had he won tonight) but next season should be normal pressure, as it would be for anyone who doesn't have history with United.

Looking for Eric
No, we have not learn't how to defend set pieces, rely on something special from players rather than teamwork. Inconsistant performances despite more or less sticking to the same players game after game. Home form and unable to beat teams who park the bus.

Hold off. There is no rush as no other big club is going to take him. Not winning a trophy after two and a half seasons is a bit concerning. He already has the biggest net spend of any Premier League club over that time, so results really need to start matching those levels of costs.

Assess the situation and if a better manager comes available, move on. You have to look after the best interests of Manutd, and that is to keep the option open rather than risking the need to pay a termination fee.

You make a good point, We should get a proven managerial legend. Maybe LVG or Jose?

Imagine if Ole was unsettled. This is the best job he will ever have as a manager.

But we will extend him as long as he qualifies for CL next year in my opinion. Same club who gave Jones and Bailly new contracts. They'll certainly give Ole one.

That's a really poor argument. Maybe get a manager who's best wasnt a decade before we sign them?

Or are the only options Ole or Van Gaal?

LVG hadn’t managed in club football for like a decade and Jose had been sacked from his previous two jobs, which included having a title winning team languishing around 16th on the table. They were both washed up.

We are yet to hire one of the best in slot managers since Ferguson retired.

Apart from being top of the league in January for the first time in 8 years.

And then being adamant we weren't in a title race and losing to Sheffield United, giving them their first win of the season(?).
