I think he’d be a great addition to any team. He was electric on his return from injury, it’s not easy to come into a struggling team that lacks dynamism, and almost instantly add that on your return. From the sounds of it he’s going to be staying for next season and see what the Newcastle board do. He’s a big talent and I hope next season he can stay injury free.

I’ll never be convinced he ever has control over what he’s doing.
I get that exact feeling with Sterling. He could score 60 goals in a season and I'd still feel most of them were scuffed or lucky.

You having a laugh, he is way better than James
He objectively is not. Poorer ratio of goals and assists per games played despite being more experienced and not having to play against a low block almost every game. He does a flashy little run a couple of times a game and does feck all else for the rest of the 90, provides no defensive cover or pressing at all. He is not close to good enough for United.

Not having that. Stats often don't tell the true story, he is playing in a team that isn't ever on the front foot, so he is going to be limited in terms of recieving the ball in dangerous situation.

Each to their own as they say.

An to be clear, I'm not saying blow money on ASM, just that he is better than James.

Injury issues aside, I don't want players who offer us nothing more than "individual brilliance". Maximin is a very talented player with the ball, but from what I've seen of him he wants to do it all himself. We have enough of that already...

He is way better than James. Though I’ve watched enough of him to know he probably will never be consistent enough for a top 4 side. He is like a better version of Bolaise. He has immense skill and when on he does things most players can only dream of. But overall he doesn’t seem to know how to apply them skills to really start producing with more goals and assists.

Listen I like James. I feel we never should of bought him as he never had the experience nor the ability(at this time) to make it here but he is nowhere near the level of St Maximin

Did he make the french national squad ?
Are you being serious ? Have you seen France’s squad ? This is a country that Laporte never got a cap for. I seen the starting 11 they made up of players not called up it be a top 10 international side. St Maximin is good but he was never making the squad

Haha sorry about the reply but yes that’s a no. France are the best squad in the world and favourites for the Euros even being in a group with Germany and Portugal. They are so stacked it’s unbelievable.
Martial, Lacazette, Upamecano, Fekir, Theo Hernandez(cracking player) didn’t even get a look in.
On paper they are one of the only teams ahead of England.

United don't need another player that has raw and unrefined skill which needs nurturing and hope that he brings it all together. The club has that in Rashford, Martial to an extent, and McTominay.

Greenwood shits on this guy. For all of Rashford's inconsistency, he shits on ASM as well. Unless ASM plays CF/ST or central midfield, he's of no use to Manchester United. Rather continue with James who works very hard and presses against good team, team player, and go with Amad and Elanga.

If he stays injury free he’s a sure thing to being successful at a top club. Writing this so I can quote myself in three years

Very few of them turn into Sadio Mané. In the words of @JPRouve - ‘he has the tools but not the toolbox’.
First post in 2019 and it’s still relevant 2 years later. Will continue to be his entire career, I imagine.

This forum, and a lot of supporters underestimate how useful it is to have someone who can take people on at the elite level. It’s a massive boon to have someone like that, it’s a nightmare for defenders to deal with and gives the manager a massive weapon in his arsenal.

The lad is brilliant and he’s going to go far.

Not true.
That is true. He has a horrible touch, he can dribble a player like nothing and then in the next moment struggle to run in a straight line with the ball. He has flair but lack creativity. He is just overall a player that has no business being in a top 6-8 club in the pl.

I like him. If he gets more consistent and improves his end product a bit, he'd be great for us.

He is doing a bit too much selfish dribbling at times.

People forget that football is a squad game, Fergie had Oshea and other players of his type in our team. They weren't superstars but they had a role to play. The rumours today was we are thinking of handing mata a new deal, and people think having ASM is far fetched? Will need a coach to help him fit his talent in a team, not sure our Ole is the man

I think he likes being the main man at Newcastle.

I can't see him really stepping up and being consistently good for a top team. He makes simple mistakes and turns the ball over a lot, which is accepted at Newcastle as he will produce a moment of magic. At the top clubs, you need to be relatively consistent even within the 90 minutes and I just don't think he has the mentality for that.

He is exactly the player Utd needs for squad depth and rotation. He changes things from the get go. Just causes so much chaos Dan James needs to be sold to fund this. Would be a nice upgrade to him.

I’d argue the flip side — beating players is all good and that, but final third numbers are king. The step up from being a midtable winger to being a genuine option for a top 6 side requires a a lot more than being good at dribbling.

Don’t get me wrong, ASM is probably one of the best dribblers in the league, and in an ideal world I’m sure Pep/Klopp/Ole et al. would love a player like this in their side — but not at more than an option which just isn’t worth the outrageous numbers he’ll cost.

He may dribble and have pace in a way someone a lot less glamorous in his play like say, Harvey Barnes does, but the latter scores and assists at a rate ASM just doesn’t. Possibly can’t.
