I heard he already has quite an ego since his breakthrough season, would be wary of this one... If it is around the same money, Renato sounds a safer bet right now.
Renato Sanches said he'd prefer warming the bench at Bayern Munich to playing for Manchester United back in 2016.

Ok, didn't know that. In both cases, extensive background checks required I guess.

The source is Rennes based, with well over half a million followers.

I think the news of our interest is coming from the players camp/agent. Doubt there is anything concrete in those links

I would think we are being used to flush out PSG and Real, I can't see this transfer happening.

I guess what we're trying to do is putting in the groundwork early, to sign him next year. Hence no offer to Rennes.
With that price I think Rennes are just going to hope a team bites now and pulls the trigger on a transfer before other teams get seriously involved. It's a very excessive price, but he's gifted enough to justify it if he fulfills his potential.

It's also normal to touch base with the players agent to gauge the prospects of signing the player in the current window. And if United get a favourable response then they'd proceed to contacting the club.

in 6 months he can sign to any European club for free. They should run away with anything above 30m now.

Great prospect but I think we would have to sell a few players before we even think about bidding for him.
If we can get Sancho and Varane/Torres, It may be that we go for this guy that Cavani has recommended.

Obvious it is just a ploy and clubs will see through it immediately. Rennes are not in a position to miss out on a transfer fee if he refuses to extend.

I think if he joins us then he has a chance of being a first team regular before long, in one of the deeper midfield roles. I also think if we want to build a squad that will challenge at home and abroad, then we need to balance the long term and short term approach. So signing Camavinga and Sancho along with Varane would be a big step in the right direction imo.

100 m obviously isn't happening. But 50m probably is.

So that's United shopping for 3 players with a combined cost in the area of 200 million. It does seem too good to be true, but hey, who knows...

I suppose it's conceivable that we could raise 100m or so from player sales. Then at least the sums add up.

Happy we are in for him. He looked destined for Madrid a year ago. How did he get on this season?

It's be around 175m total by the looks of things. We'd only need to get one or two players off our books to hit our usual net spend. It was mentioned early in the summer by the press that we were going to spend 150m net.

I can't remember why I joined this war.
and you think that’ll improve with sanches and rice? you can do better my man
Rice would certainly be a good option for an anchor in a 433, of course not for the 100M, that's why I mentioned Kamara. Just out of interest who do you think would be great for that role and is not playing for one of the top teams yet?

Sanches no doubt is a question mark, but I'd say his current form for Lille and in the national team are good signs that he is finally finding his place in the game and I'd say a 433 would greatly benefit from having two very energetic box to box midfielders who can pass on top of that and I'd say Renato fits that part quite well. Bellingham would be a great alternative, but again he is probably going to be in the 100M range as well.

Sure if only one young midfielder can be added in the coming transfer window go for Camavinga, should be first choice in that regard, especially since we still have a ton of midfielders.

I like Camavinga he's got great potential, but Sanches would be a huge flop here.

Rice is very overrated and for the money I don't think he's anywhere near worth it. Obviously we need another option with both Pogba and Matic potentially leaving soon, but I really don't think he's the answer.

I think the serious interest in someone like Camavinga puts an end to the idea of a "Matic replacement" coming in. Ole is definitely looking to play two energetic box to box players in CM, rather than a pure DM. I'm all for that.

So what type of midfielder is this kid? Never seen him play.

Don't get me wrong, I'm aboard the hype train - but need to know where to slot him in my imaginary starting 11

Well we know it's going to be 80 for Sancho, Varane and Camavinga will be in the area of 50 each (as far as can be told) and then there are signing-on bonuses and such, so to me I think "in the area of 200 million" makes some sense. But it's just a question of how specific one wants to make the assumption.

Bolded part: Really? Do you remember where? The only figure I've seen is that the transfer budget was 85m, but I can't remember where I read that. Would be nice (and also more consistent with what seems to be going on) if that was right.
