Ridiculously poor performance by Mbappe. A quality player no doubt, but a no show in the Euros.

Starting to look like a pace merchant. He isnt special on the ball at all. Poch might suit him with his sit back and counter tactic but i really dont think he would be the world beater in a top side that everybody thinks

Mbappe is a very good player who has not improved over the past 3 years but thinks he is on the same level as Ronaldo and Messi because of all the hype around him.

It's a ridiculous comparison.

It's like comparing Neymar to Messi when they were both at Barcelona.

It's obvious when you watch PSG who the key player of the team is.

Neymar is clearly still better than Mbappe.
Neymar's theatrics has blinded people. He is better than Mbappe still and for Brazil/France they're world's apart

How wrong was I to think he was gonna approach Brazilian Ronaldo in terms of potential. Will be a top top player, but never will reach pre-injury Ronaldo level. Needs to sort his head out.

Hope people realise why Neymar is the better player. Mbappe is brilliant but he can be erratic and kept very quiet if you fence him in. Xavi had a point a few years ago.

who will ever do so though?

he needs to mover to a more competitive league. Didn’t he go a year without scoring in the CL? He needs to be playing against a higher quality of opposition more regularly.

Why are you so sure he'll be a top top player? He has lots of weaknesses to his game. Not great at set pieces, not great with his left or his head, can't really play up front alone, doesn't do much defensively.

I wouldn't be surprised if he doesn't improve much at all from what he currently is.

He's already a top player to be fair and there aren't many in his age group who have the same qualities. You can only be better than your direct opposition.

No, talk like this is exactly the problem, it's the foundation for a lack of focus and thinking you are already bigger than you are.
That comes when you are a big fish in a small pond. Same problem with Neymar. Join Madrid or some other big league side, he would learn to handle the pressure and will learn to be a team player. Sorry if ir hurts people but no one cares if Psg wins the league. Mbappe and Neymar are playing in a league where pressure is too less. Imagine Brazilian Ronaldo just stayed in PSV. He has to leave PSG.

He makes it very difficult to like him. He’s clearly got talent but absolutely nowhere near where he thinks he is or where he should be given his early promise.

Since he's joined PSG, there has looked to be a lot of unwarranted arrogance to him. I've half jokingly attributed that to spending a lot of time around Neymar, but there might be something to that. That PSG side, their character, and the league they play in absolutely do not seem conducive to developing a young talented player into the hardened winning machine the absolute top players are by any stretch, though.

He's got all the talent and all the time to turn it around, but I think he's in real danger of having a Michael Owen career without the same level of injuries to blame it on.

I genuinely believe Haaland would have scored at least one goal from those two balls which were served to him on a silver platter.

Of course. Personally I rate Haaland far more. Now there's a generational talent.

I like him, but I keep saying people don't realize the levels that need to be reached to even meet the expectations that the Figo's, Rooney's, Rivaldo's and Henry's reached. That's what a normal generation looks like. Mbappe hasn't and might not ever reach that level, yet people keep assuming that a year of him and Haaland playing well means they would definitely pass that level.

I won't go too hard on him, he's still a top player and absolutely one of the best in the world but perhaps his last year can show he's still far from reaching the level of some of the greats before him.

I remember earlier in this thread someone telling me he had already surpassed Henry and I was lost for words.

Maybe he meant in terms of where Henry was at Mbappe's age?

Social media and the overall capitalization of media overall is prompting some of these expectations, although overblown expectations in general are typical of football. You can see that bleedover effect in players like Martial as well.

To have a Rooney in your team is to have a phenom you can build a team around

He has been like this for a while, ive called him out time and time again on here while getting shouted down. This performance is no different than every knockout CL perfromance he has for PSG before Poch sat them back and played on the counter with their long balls.
He cant play with his back to goal, has no left foot, has a shocking narrow range of finishing technique and doesn't make runs off the ball. Even balls over the top has him starting a yard or 2 behind the defender and catching him up. He is just so fast and can turn players from a standing start that sets him apart.
He need to work with a world class, attacking manager and needs it soon

What i don't like, the way he is going down for penalties in every possible scenario.

Against Portugal vs Semedo. Today too, before Swiss got their deserved pen.

Well... Pre-injury Ronaldo is probably the best player football has ever seen, so not quite easy anyone will reach that level again.

Bizzare to mention Rooney. What did Rooney ever did for England?

I’ve always thought Neymar was a bit better all round because I watch PSG games. But Neymar is also much older, we’re talking about a 29 year old and a 22 year old. Mbappe is still a great player, watch him redeem himself at the World Cup next year. He had a bad tournament this time round, it happens.

This is a guy who at 22 years old has already scored away at the Etihad, Old Trafford, Anfield, Camp Nou, the Bernabeu, the Allianz Arena, the Juventus Stadium and Signal Iduna Park.

He’s had a bad tournament, no doubt. But people need to stop talking nonsense, for real.
