The headline of that article is way more promising than the content. They've basically just said Madrid wanted 70m start of the summer but we think we can get him for 50m.

Seems like there's a deal to be done here. Either way its best we act quickly so we can move on to other targets if not. Hopefully hear something concrete over the weekend.

Anyone know anything about these journos? Seems like Ogden is just the lead author.

Not really, Ogden claims his sources told him we're close to finalising the deal with Real, then there's information how their valuation has changed.

No, Marks sources have said an agreement is close and he makes that clear in the article, hence that being the headline.

The last thing I heard about Varane is that United are cautiously optimistic. The club has had the Frenchman at the top of the wish list and is trying to sign him. United have several alternative names in the background if they do not get a grip on Varane.

United have several alternatives if they should fail in getting Varane.

Varane sounds too good to be true. Not believing this until people more reliable then Ogden jump on it.

Nae chance we sign Varane and Torres, we're not made of money, and we'll struggling to shift what we'd like to get rid of.
I think Baily's off after his comments on the eve of the EL final. De Gea possibly? Lingard? Pereria for sure. Maybe Martial also? Tuanzebe and Williams out on loan for a small fee each. Dalot may be leaving. We could raise enough funds for two CB's if needed.

On the pitch, usually in our own half.
Are you saying they won't be allowed inside the dressing room then?

fecking hell Ole, first starving your kid, now this. He's a harsh man.

I prefer we offer Ramos for a 2 year contracts and saving that money for Camaviga, instead of buying Varane for a very high price. We're all seen what a veteran like Cavani can bring to us.

Sign Varane and a midfielder we win the league next season.
Depends on what City and Chelsea end up doing to be honest, and Liverpool - although they look like they're falling behind in the markets currently.

Whatever our squad options are, al 3 of the above have managers/coaching staff in place with better track records than us. Not a slight at Ole, just the fact of the matter. That stuff matters, just look at the squads SAF won titles with.

Liverpool have already signed Kounate and will have a fit VVD back and maybe Gomez.

Chelsea will get Rice IMO having tried to buy him last year as well.

City...well you have heard the rumors of them going after 2 of the best English players playing in the league.

Yep, it's inconceivable at the moment to think we'll improve and the others stand still that being said it's going to be hard for Chelsea to get Haaland and City get Kane or Grealish so who knows maybe we'll win the transfer window

Why would we sign two CBs? Did Ole get a stiffy watching Southgate play 3 at the back against Germany?

I remember we were heavily linked to him, we wanted him but he chose Real Madrid because of Zidane. Still only 28, amazing that he has blossomed into one of the top center-backs in the world. He can give us at least 5 years at the top level if he stays injury-free.

Be positive!
I'd be over the moon with a window that gets us Sancho, possibly Varane and a CM.

I still feel we could do with a striker though. I love Cavani but he isn't getting any younger and his fitness could be an issue. I feel Greenwood is still much better from the right. Probably Martial will pull his finger out though (if he stays)
