Just wait until he makes another mistake, the vultures will be back in full force. Funnily they have no problem licking Dias/Laporte's arse or when another CB makes a mistake.
I mean if you look on the 5 world class defenders thread, the number of people who have Laporte in their is a joke. 1 good season 3 years ago and he's world class. Can't get into the City first 11, couldn't get into the French national squad and people trying to say he's world class?

He's also been very average in the Euros.

Brilliant defender who is quite rightly getting his due.

He needs to do a few more of those attacking headers in a United shirt, mind.
He's done a million of them, he just doesn't hit the fecking goal. And when he finally does, with two magnificent towerings headers, he's denied by the ref (Burnley) and Johnstone (WBA) with an unheard of save.

He does need to be more careful though when going up for headers, he's leading with his arm almost everytime, giving the ref an excuse to blow the whistle.

While the same chaps will describe Maguire as bang average, not worth this or that. I also like Laporte for example, but credit where it's due, Maguire has been nothing short of outstanding player for club and country for couple of years and is up there with the best CB at the moment.

It's social media that has caused this IMO. The high profile signing, paying £80m and then like all CB's do, have a few shaky moments and some fans made clips and posted it on twitter which then sticks.

I see people saying he's been good since Christmas but really Maguire has been good for us since he signed, yes he has had a few shaky moments but I can't think of any CB who hasn't.

What I like now, he's growing into the leader role as well. If people read what he does off the pitch, they will realise why he is captain of United as well.

He isn’t, at all. Don’t talk out of your arse.
Really? Have you seen how often he gets pulled out of position and has had to have Shaw or Lindelof cover him? I think in part it’s due to his over eagerness to be aggressive that often means he finds himself in trouble and leaving us wide open. But he just goes to places he isn’t needed causing ripples throughout the rest of the defence.

He needs to get better at that which I’m sure with more experience will come but the same thing was happening to him last night.

If the injury makes you stronger, think this is perfect example.

Would love to see someone like that in United's midfield next season.

Definitely gets in the team of the tournament. Monster performance from him yesterday and the game before and the game before that. Hopefully it continues when club football resumes.

Great player when put into a setup that protects him. England and United are very similar in this regard, two defensively oriented midfielders in front of him, strong defensive fullbacks that don't push very far forward. He doesn't have players running right at him through the middle or need worry much about defending in space in the channels. So he can lean into his strengths - dominating in the air, reading the game comfortably, and distributing cleanly - to impose himself on the game, without worrying about his weaknesses.

When he's playing well like he is at the moment, one of the best things he does is very rarely pass back to the keeper even when under pressure, but finds forward looking passes instead, it helps out the team massively.

I still remember sky doing a piece on it after we beat City this year. Still massively underated with the ball at his feet imo.

I said at the time of paying the fee for him, there's very few centre back in world football who have his combination of ball playing attributes, his aerial dominance, his leadership skills, are good defenders and for us, would fit into the Premier League seamlessly. I think you can find better defenders, I think you can find better ball playing centre backs, there are better centre backs at winning headers and there are better leaders out there. But very few who have all of them up to his standard imho.

He's been performing at this level for 90% of his United career. Nice more people are starting to appreciate it.
He has, he settled almost immediately and it’s incredible anyone is managing to make the stretch to find serious faults with him or his game.

Look at him, positionally wank. Must be @Andersons Dietician told me so.
Can’t help but notice the lack of clips in that video where Denmark carved them wide open and he was pulled out to the wing when he had no need to go there and left a massive hole that Denmark walked through. Not to mention the amount of times Walkers pace saved your asses due to positional blunders.
But please continue to pull up YouTube clips of his best bits.

A whole two years of watching him consistently getting pulled out of position but a 2 minute clip will totally change mine and others minds.

Yep. Weird how public opinion can change, and even weirder that it takes Maguire doing exactly what he usually does, but in another shirt, for United fans to actually drop the agendas and see him for what he is.

Can you pull up those clips then?
And also you or some other poster has been going on about Maguire getting pulled out to the wing. CB's job is to cover when someone gets behind their full backs, and when that CB gets pulled out then its the job of the other CB or the DM to cover for him. So, without you showing us the clips of the actual situations, you just seem like you're shouting at the clouds and us thinking he is just doing his CB duties.

Unfortunatly I’m not a sad sack that can be bothered trailing through 2 years of games to produce a 5 minute video. But instead simply check the Norwich game from last season where Lindelof and Bissaka have it covered, he decides to get involved creating a massive space that gets exploited then Shaw has to leave his man to cover him.

There was a similar situation last night where he had no need to go there which then pulled Stones out of position which Denmark then exploited and Walkers pace bailed you guys out.

I think he is decent but he has a lot of room for improvement and hopefully he does, like I said earlier a lot of his faults seem to be caused by an over eagerness to get involved. More experience under his belt and he’ll hopefully iron those things out so he can be a proper world class defender.

I’m just not going to blow smoke up his ass because he makes a good few headed clearances when he is causing bigger issues in the defence.

I’ve always felt that Maguire played better for England than for us, maybe due to having a better partner, and this tournament has cemented that.

There was a fair argument that we overpaid but rival fans needed to take it one step further that we overpaid and he's useless, rather than we just overpaid for a very good player who has improved us. Unfortunately many of own fans bought into it too.

Anyone who doesn't recognise that Maguire is a quality defender is either stuck in a 20 year time warp, or must think there aren't any good defenders these days.

Bar that first month of the season he's been pretty good. And is such a huge influence on our defence that the month injured at the end of the season saw us absolutely collapse at the back.

The idea of him being out for any time next year is frightening.
Imagine fielding two out of Lindelof, Bailly and Tuanzebe regularly!

Stats say different. Everything is bumped up over what he has done at United other than tackles and clearances, where he has made slightly less for England than for United last season. Everything he's good at he's done more of for England so far this tournament. Every strength has been stronger. He's also averaged 11 more passes per game for England than at United so hes been on the ball more too.

Keano actually always view him as a leader. Unlike lot of United fans want his armband to be stripped off.
I remember him not being too complimentary about him when we conceded a soft goal againsts Spurs a while back but I suppose these things happen

Why should he compliment Maguire for the goal we conceded vs Spurs?

Better performance might be due to not playing next to Lindelof / Bailly also. Stones is a very good CB too
