Not only England has lost, but they've shown themselves from the worst possible side as football fans. Right now in Poland fans behavior is being discussed widely.
Poland has much bigger issues of it's own to deal with before you get all self righteous about England fans.

Dude it was a match against Italians whose fans have a history of booing out black players in recent times in the stadium.

Hardly a surprise this thread, based on the threads and posting we’ve seen since England got through to the semies.
I thought people hated and were bitter against United when they had succes.
But feck me, England reaching a major semi final really drives people up the wall. Even one of my mates who’s barely bat an eyelid at anything football related this season had sunk into this ott state of bitterness over England reaching the final.
Ah its okay England lost so its all good now

It's not coming home. Best team won
Exactly that. No other way to say it. Italy out passed and out played England and on the night, the better team won.
Italy were simply better than England.

Italian fans are 100 times worse than England fans. The former are actual fascists and racists that openly celebrate their hatred for other races.

Mate that’s all good. I have no issues with England/Scotland/Ireland/Wales banter but if you can’t see the hilarity of the bitterness on here over England making one measly final. I mean you’ve had people posting essays on England’s colonisation hundreds of years ago, brexit etc. People blabbering on about incidents from 1998, getting into an almighty strop over booing of anthems. Thread after thread full of bickering.
If this was a club side someone would have reigned it in and gone “lads, you’re all getting a bit weird now”…

Look at this guy. Presumably he was asleep when Tuanzebe and co were being racially abused online by “United fans”
Leroy the Red no more. Must be England > United for him. Leroy the Lion it is

i've read a few posts here about how it is sarcastic and a wry comment on decades of failure, but, it certainly didn't seem to be used like that, and it's hard to judge a full song when it's literally these 3 words that are repeated and nothing else.

reading redcafe and general football coverage, there was a lot more of the sarcasm and defeatism that you're talking about in previous tournaments. hearing "it's coming home" as england struggled vs the US with heskey upfront and upson at CB would definitely read as sarcasm.
not sure about this time.
Classic self deprecating english humour and not at all a country having a collective mid life crisis.

Imagine this being ok on a forum of a team in any other country in the world. This is how hatred is created.
This really where we are at now. This forum the type of place where this stuff is cool because the owners/mods hate the English so much out of bitterness and jealousy.
I’m out.
I doubt I’ll be the only one either. Enjoy the cesspit you’re left with.
Bye bye, no one will miss you, don’t let the door hit you on the way out

Seriously, what's the big deal in singing about it's coming home? It's just a football chant. Almost every football chant out there, included United's, is grounded in hubris, so why does this trigger everyone so much?

English United fans getting on the high horse “You cannot support United if you don’t support England, go support your local team” - as if everyone of them is from proper Manchester…

Well go on and support Torquay United then. Or, if you really are a local, then go support FC United of Manchester and support the proper local team not the one owned by American billionaires.

Otherwise keep the straw man argument to yourself. The truth is if United only had “proper fans” from Manchester there would be no Sancho, there wouldn’t even be premier league football.

I get it, there is some over the top abuse. But everyone has dished out in “let’s all laugh at…” threads countless of times. If you’re really upset about the loss last night just avoid this thread, it’s not such a hard thing to do.

United have far more worse and arrogant chants. There's a deeper lying hate in here for England that no one will admit to, so they blame the song.

You have Polish fans complaining about English hooliganism, and European fans complaining about English diving and racism. I mean really?

If united behave like england fans I'd support something else.

Nothing to do with country. It's about respect. England offer none
Please do.

Right now a purge of all of the plastic fans would be advantageous.

There’s anti England fans in this thread giving shit to one of our legends, Rio

I have also woken up to see that both Rashford and Sancho received racist abuse on social media.

Please go away, all of you. We do not need this toxicity in our fan base. You can find one of the nouveau plastic clubs, but leave our institution alone.

Just because English fans are less open about it (they resort to social media afterwards) does not make them 100 times better. They are equally as bad as each other so there is no moral high ground here.

I’m genuinely surprised.

Wanting Italy to win is one thing but all these strong negative emotions against a whole nation…. after a game of football. Some of it is borderline hate. Really?

Exactly. All I saw after that match was "Go cry more" "These salty tears are so delicious"

Well guess what, the tears of all of you from the final are even more delicious.

It's funny because the England team has a lot of players that I really like, including some of our own, but the fans are absolutely insufferable.

Go cry some more lads.
It was hilarious, those premature celebrations, as if they had won it already.

I am really happy for the following reasons:
  • Backfoot, boring, and defensive football has failed so there is still hope left in this world
  • The entire press and the pundits joined on the bandwagon of glorifying Southgate ended up with eggs on their faces; now they will change the narrative and try to pass this off as a great achievement
  • Southgate has had an extremely lucky draw, a Germany who were past their best, and a Sterling who would probably win an academy award, and he was behaving like these results are vindication of his methods; in reality he is a poor man’s Mourinho without the ego and the arrogance
  • Several fans on this forum who are so measured otherwise, suddenly lost their minds when others were calling out negative football and tactics and their general reaction was “Do we care?” or “sour grapes” etc.
Also, I astounded to see the bigotry and xenophobia on this forum. When all logic falls flat, people come out with the garbage that you aren’t a “local fan” etc. Well guess what, I own no explanation to you and will support the club I want to support. MUFC is a global entity, else they wouldn’t reach out to international fans, sign noodle partners in China, and open pubs in India. They want more fans and you are not the loyalty police so get off your high horse.
Exactly.

Some on here are taking this waaaay too seriously. Wanting England to lose does not equate to hatred of the country FFS!

I wanted England to lose because:
- ‘It’s coming home’ is kind of annoying
- Kane and Sterling flopped around constantly against Denmark
- Some English fans have been real dicks

And then there is probably also a point about being exposed to English media. For language reasons you don’t hear any of the annoying Italian or Spanish experts for example.

Now the predictable counter arguments are ‘it’s just a song’, ‘all teams have divers’ and ‘all countries have shit fans’, which is probably all true. Doesn’t change that the above points is how I felt after the Denmark game. One of the wonderful things about football is that you are allowed to pick sides and it doesn’t have to be completely rational all of the time.

Just don’t accuse me of hatred or bigotry - this is no different to me than wanting City or Liverpool to lose.

I think it's because it's perceived as arrogant in countries outside England because of the wording (you can't call it home if you never had it kind of thing you know...). Once every major tournament starts, you cannot escape it. Internet is flooded with that chant to the point that it's just unbearably cringe and kind of annoying. I know people here say that it is a sarcastic chant but it really doesn't look like that from the outside. It looks like arrogance, rightly or wrongly.

Tbf this kind of thread is a bit too much imo, especially for United fans.

I was supporting Italy, mainly because I really hate watching negative and coward football especially after my experience with Joseball. But after the match I felt a bit for Rashford, Maguire, Shaw and Sancho. They must have been devastated losing a final like that. Especially for the first three and especially for Shaw, twice this year and Shaw played the tournament of his life.

I only hope this won't mentally affect them in the comming season.

Imagine being glad that a team who enjoyed every advantages possible, with one of the strongest squads in the tournament, yet played like a steaming pile of horse manure, lost the final they didn’t deserve to win. Such a head scratcher, that!

England’s loss is football’s win.

I was against England last night but I actually don’t really get this one either. Most supporters dream and sing about winning trophies.

The “coming home” theme does fit into sort of a British-empire-colonial-lord-centre-of-the-world stereotype though which might trigger some people.

For me it comes more down to this: where others have tried to be great hosts and were respectful and curious about their guests when hosting tournaments in the past, the English made it all about themselves, booed other nations anthems and basically didn’t give two f**** about anyone else - except for making fun of them, I guess.

So if you invite people for dinner but only cook for yourself and laugh at their dresses don’t expect them to bring any presents and compliment your China.

Bollocks. You definitely have no knowledge of the likes of Lazio ultras, for example. One of the biggest scumbags on the planet.

People seem to forget how recently Lukaku was blatantly a target of racism and nothing was done about it, whilst Inter fans wrote a letter to him saying it's "normal" for Italy.

Yet you support a team based in England.

Whatever. Up to you. I was born in Manchester so I support the local team my family supported. I can’t imagine supporting Real Madrid or Barcelona or Bayern Munich etc, what would be the point in supporting a team that you can’t go to watch? whatever floats your boat though. Enjoy “your” big victory tonight.

Yeah as an Indian, I've had a chuckle at yesterday's defeat too but constant mentions of supporting Italy due to English fans is very weird.

Hope those people having serious meltdowns about England and Man Utd last night are ok this morning.

I must have fell asleep laughing so didn’t have chance to check on them last night, apologies.
