 I didn't even bother commenting in that thread, knowing how papers make up shite all the time. How they would possibly know of formation changes and the like are just plain dumb if you can't see that they know jack shite. However, being an arm chair manager, its very hard to resist giving your 2 cent opinion on the "formation change Ole has told his first team will be 433".
Absolutely. Might be a great change, if pogba stays, etc etc... Just ridiculous to think that some paper could report it correctly being more likely than some paper just making it up

CAF: Everything Must Be A PR move!

Rinse and repeat ad infitum.

I’ll wait to see how Ole starts the senior squad before criticising
I wasn’t criticizing, I’m pointing out a general rule of thumb, that an article without a quote is almost always rubbish. But just because it’s made up doesn’t mean Ole won’t go 433. Maybe the reporter heard 433 has been discussed, who knows, but it’sa good rule of thumb, especially in “silly season”.

Looks a real danger doesn't he? Was impressed. He was clearly a bit nervous at the start and had some heavy touches but looked much better in the final 20mins. Took his goal very well.
His game has gone up a couple of notches the past 12 months

I really don't think many of our young players have a future here. Probably only Amad, Elanga, Pellistri and Mejbri to be honest.

Also what an absolute joke that we still have Peireira here stinking up the place.

Always going to be a tough game. Great test of character for the young lads.

Some of the more experienced lads likeWilliams, James, Andreas were poor. But hard to judge when you play a team further down the road in pre season than you.

was exciting to see the team from the 2nd batch of subs (and Elangas goal) play well and more confident than the senior players they replaced

It's a nothing game sure, but then would you all be filled with confidence calling any of these fringe players up when we have injuries to our first team
Yes because I've seen them in games during the real season

We had a strong team out there, bar pellistri and mengi the rest are first teamers with bags of experience.
Shows the lack of depth in the squad, yes only a friendly but we're Man Utd and you play to win everytime you wear the badge.
Are you a United supporter? Strong team? How many of them will start in Mid August? I can't think of one.

Really young team, players were given a good run out and some of them made a good account of themselves. Hopefully we can get more first team players back for Brentford game.

Well that 2nd half implosion wasn’t in the scripts. Again, I’m not going to get worked up like some posters on here as how many of those players in that early 2nd half implosion will be 1st choice starters for us next season plus pre-season friendlies aren’t about the scoreline. It’s good to make these mistakes now in pre-season so you’ve got time to iron them out before the competitive action begins. It was a good workout and learning curve for these youngsters in terms of the huge jump from U18’s/U23’s to the senior set up. They equipped themselves very well imo even when it could have been easy for them to drop their heads when they went 4-1 down. They kept playing, created some opportunities and openings but failed to take their chances.

Plus pre-season results don’t really give an indication for anything though. Yeah it’s good if you win them but it isn’t the be all and end all if you don’t. It doesn’t mean that you are going to carry those results and performances into the competitive season.

In LVG’s first season we beat LA Galaxy 7-0, Real Madrid 3-1, Roma 3-2, Liverpool 3-1, Valencia 2-1 & drew 0-0 with Inter but then beat them on pens. We played some very nice football and scored some lovely goals both as a team and through some individual brilliance in those games.

Season starts and we lost 2-1 at home to Swansea and followed that home defeat with a 1-1 draw away to Sunderland & 0-0 draw away to Burnley. Sandwiched between those draws was a 4-0 spanking away to MK Dons.

If anything this match shows... We are a ways from developing squad depth. Maybe 3 or 4 out of that lot can be added to the squad depth in the next couple of years.

The young players played better.

Garner looks average sadly, I expected more from him. Levitt looked good, always showed for the ball. Elanga was fantastic. Dont think Hugill will make it, looks bang average. Shoretire, Galbraith and Mjebri looked bright but still need to develop more.

Elanga, Pellistri, Levitt, Williams and Garner need loans. Pereira, James and Lingard need to be sold.
You do realise Hugill is 17?

A strong team vs QPR I think. No offense but they finished mid table in the Championship last season. Our backups are about that level, max. Some I'd doubt would make it there, Pereira for example.

If Bruno isn't there then Dalot wouldn't be either
Is there a list when to expect so many players back? I mean, we are missing

Dean H.
De Gea
Maguire
Lindelof
Shaw
Telles
Dalot
Pogba
McTominay
VDB

Fred
Bruno
Martial
Cavani

I know Amad and Bailly play at Olympia, Sancho is on holiday, Rashford is gone for heath reasons but what about the rest. It is pretty much our 1st team and they do not participate in pre-season. It was to be expected of course but especially the bolded ones should be back at the squad by now, aren't they?

Telles has been back, but has picked up an ankle injury in training, so is out for a few weeks.

It's clear we lack squad depth. The current backup squad can't beat a championship side. Yet we will need to rely on them over a 60+ game season?
We aren't ready to challenge on all fronts. That's obvious now.

Giving Pereira a contract of £50k a week, Williams £65k a week is simply a crime against humanity.
Williams isn't on that much. Pereira probably is considering his squad status when he signed his last contract.

Yes, what I said is a bit harsh. But based on his two appearances, I struggle to see what he brings. But yes, its too little of a sample set.
I haven't watched the game today as I'm on a stag do, the first game though we really, really struggled to get the ball in and around the box and service to Hugill and strikers.

The way that people write off youngsters after two preseason games is incredible.

My only disappointment is that Pereira is still at the club. A tough, physical game is just what we need in preseason. The result is pretty much irrelevant but for confidence.

Yeah the Athletic did an article on it. Will see if I can find it....

Jadon Sancho, Luke Shaw, Harry Maguire (Euros with England) — August 1
Marcus Rashford (Euros with England) — set to get shoulder surgery, which would mean October return
Fred (Copa America with Brazil) — July 31
David de Gea (Euros with Spain) — July 27
Edinson Cavani (Copa America with Uruguay) — July 26
Victor Lindelof (Euros with Sweden) — July 20
Paul Pogba (Euros with France) — July 19
Bruno Fernandes, Diogo Dalot (Euros with Portugal) — July 19
Dan James (Euros with Wales) — July 19
Scott McTominay (Euros with Scotland) — July 14
Eric Bailly, Amad (Olympics with Ivory Coast, tournament finishes July 28-August 7) — August 18-28 depending on progress
Dates have passed for some of those but I expect they'll be back on Monday along with Martial and VDB. We had the training camp this week so probably didn't want players to join during that.

Conceding 4 goals even in pre-season against a championship side isn't really great preparation no matter how you dress it up or play it down
It shouldn’t be but this is the forum where we went 120minutes against a mid-table Spanish side in a cup final - eventually losing & posters were climbing over themselves to tell you how the game & the tournament didn’t matter despite us playing our best available side, being out coached/outplayed.

The team was nowhere near the best mind but there should be a ‘standard’.

Nope. All would play above that level with clarity and coaching, which every player we sell shows time and time again: Lingard for West Ham, Sanchez, Darmian, and Young for Inter, Smalling for Roma, and so on. They don't play well because they don't know what to do when on the pitch.

Hugill was subbed in at 45 and then taken off around 75. That says it all really.

Today he missed 2 golden chances. With United looking to bring another CF in, and that we have Greenwood, idk if Hugill has a place at Utd. Would love to be proven wrong though.

The defeat is entirely on Mengi-Tuanzebe defence. They kept on making schoolboy mistakes.

Wouldn't be getting too carried away with challenge game results but what that match highlighted is a number of players played themselves out of starting any of the upcoming Premier league matches and it's a mystery how some of those average players are still at the club.

We had 2 players that are likely to see regular first team starts this season in the lineup. In a casual training match going maybe 50%

The only thing to take from this game is that people got exercise.

I will never, ever understand why people complain about results from training matches, especially the early ones that come during the vacation where everyone are working on basic things like conditioning.

He is 17. He has no business 'having a place' in our squad for at least 3 seasons

No he wasn't? Hugill was played in by Elanga in the 90th min in the last play of the game...

We're missing about 20 players.

How many of the players who played today do you really think we'll need to rely on?

Did Cavani play for Uruguay at the Copa America? If so, I don’t think he’ll be back till probably later this week or early next week.
