I meant more the part about being so open with the release clause and all that. But even the signings, it’s good to know how the club is thinking, even if the thinking is flawed.

Grealish, which arguably is neither of those things for City and as little decorated as Maguire was but cost £20 m more, what happens? City is almost praised by the media because everyone is so used to them overpaying and just somehow accept it for them.

He's better than Foden in my opinion - I think he'll be excellent for them sadly and take the former's spot after a stint at false 9.

United will always be centre of attention for the media whilst we generate enough clicks - no one cares that City paid 100m for Grealish, it might as well be random numbers in any order because if he flops they'll just buy someone else for the same price. Take it as a compliment, you'd rather have every move scrutinised than be seen as an ATM.

Its open it's because they have a nightmare fanbase who are boiling over because they thought they were on the way to champions league football - they call it project villa. I get what he is saying but Its The concept of moneyball in baseball applied to football but it doesnt seem to work. Ings bailey and buendia will keep them where they are. But financially etc being reliably mid table season after season is a good return for a club like Villa

Fitting him into their lineup would mean either having someone play as a false nine (my money would be on Sterling), or dropping one of Mahrez or Foden if they want to play an actual striker. The latter player seems to be unlikely considering how well he's thought of, but it also seemed to me that Mahrez did relatively well last season.

The likelihood of them also signing Kane this window seems less likely unless they feel the need to outright spit in the face of the much maligned (and rightly so) FFP.

Also, would City rather relentlessly attack and score, or win countless free kicks while giving teams time to regroup?

Will Grealish continue to thrive in a club where he definitely isn't the biggest star or considered the saviour of the team?

Either way I find myself curious as to how he'll do for them.

no shit....he was whining at the beginning of the summer about not having the money to go purchase a striker yet they spend 215m on a guy that is just a redundant type of player. He's a damn good player but they already have mahrez, foden, sterling, silva(who probably gets sold now), KdB, Ferran Torres who play the same role....good luck being a young player at City trying to make it into the first team.

People will have their opinions but he's a better signing for them than Kane, imo. I'd much rather they have gone all in on that transfer.

I've rated Grealish for a long time and I'd be willing to bet his numbers shoot right up at City. In a years time people will be talking about him the way they do about De Bruyne. All that's changed will be that he plays with better players that finish chances, has more possession, and plays in Europe.

As you can probably tell I'm pretty annoyed. I know Sancho can play Rw but having watched them both a lot, Grealish was the one I wanted. I thought we were priced out at £120m+, but £100m isn't that much more than what we payed for Sancho. Sigh. Hoping Sancho tears it up and Grealish's injuries take a leaf out of De Bryune's book.
