And Walsh, who was sacked as Everton’s director of football in May 2018, thinks United should gone for Trippier instead of their current right-back.

Walsh told The Athletic: “United have made a lot of signings. Look at £50 million for Aaron Wan-Bissaka.

“Now, perhaps it is too early and he will improve, but my eyes tell me when he gets the ball he is not the best. He is a good athlete and very quick, strong, and a good defender, but United don’t need a good defender, they need someone who can play, get on the ball.

“If I had been at United, I would have said, ‘Put your £50 million away, go and get Kieran Trippier for half that. He is an England international.

“He isn’t a great defender or a physical specimen, but he can play right-back and get the ball in early and you have strikers who can score goals.’ It is common sense.”
I like AWB but I agreed with Walsh here in 2018. Looks like United/Ole now feel the same.

Neves would be a perfect end to the window imo.
He has 3 years left on his contract, so I don't understand the stories about Wolves being willing to sell him for only 35m. Maybe Wolves are in some financial difficulty that I don't know about -- otherwise, selling him for so little would be crazy.

Easy to say that now. Everyone conveniently forgets these comments when we are under the cosh at the Etihad.

I hope it's Camavinga and then Trippier once we've gotten a few outs out of the way towards the end of the window, but realistically I think it'll be Trippier alone.

If Fab is correct, then the move for Camavinga isn't reliant on sales, so if his agent can do a good job of persuading him to come for 2-3 years and then move on to wherever he wants to go while we get a £100m+ profit on him, then I think on balance I'd take that and reinvest into someone like Bellingham down the line.

But yeah, like I said, I think it'll be Trippier still as unlike Camavinga, Trippier actually wants to be here and will kick up the fuss required to make the move happen.

Be a bit underwhelmed and disappointed if it’s Trippier. Would like Neves, Saul or someone like that but if it’s a prospect like Camavinga that would be a great signing as well.
Trippier would be a good addition, but not if we spunk £25m on him, and neglect the Midfield.
How can Ole possibly think its fine to go into such a big season with a pool of Mata, Matic & McFred, it could cost him his job.

I dunno, I think that's recency bias talking there. We absolutely needed a good defender at the time that AWB was signed. The season before he arrived our defence was ranked 11th in the whole league, and much of that was down to Valencia and Young on the flanks.

Come on now, really?

We've finished 2nd and 3rd in the last two seasons with three of those you highlighted playing key roles. While McFred isn't enough for a title charge, it has shown itself to be more than sufficient for Top 4. Add in Sancho and Varane: two players who will be absolutely filling two glaring holes in our squad, which were there last season, and you should be expecting marked improvement, irrespective of the midfield situation. And realistically speaking, as long as we get Top 4, Ole is secure here.

We and he will obviously be targeting more than just Top 4, but for our owners, as long as we get CL qualification, everything is rosy as far as they're concerned.

Trippier and Neves/Camavinga would be the two deals I'd want to see.

He's been quite accurate on transfers hasn't he.
Whom is proven to be reliable to be fair to him.
It’s a good one to hedge his bets on. He knows we will 100% make a transfer if Pogba leaves, let alone the DM we actually need if he stays. And there’s Trippier who has looked likely all summer.

Matic and Mata didn't have a key role last year, they barely got on the pitch in league games...?

Read my post again. I mentioned the seasons we finished 2nd and 3rd. The latter was the season where Matic played a major role, in particular from February onwards especially during project restart.

If it’s Trippier, I’d rather just stick with 2 signings.

Bang average 30 year old defender. It would be like having Ashley Young back.

Tripper will be one of those unglamorous smart signings.
Takes set pieces, has a lot better delivery than WB, and can even cover left back when needed too.

Just no-more than 20-25m makes any sense.

Why are people so disapointed with Trippier?

Ole had made some good signings, but AWB just isnt good enugh for a team thats supose to go forward.

How many of you lot are that mental that you think signing an England international who will play 30 games a year for us wouldn’t be significant?

Would be delighted with Trippier ahead of AWB.

I would be happy with Trippier. We need a DM but I think McT and Fred will do us this year.
