I don't see it with this guy. It's kinda bonkers to see all the excuses made for him when it's painfully clear to see he isn't good enough at this level.

His pace is pretty much all he has going for him, absolutely zilch end product. Useful player to bring on in the latter parts of a game to test some tired fullbacks, but shouldn't be starting games again assuming Sancho is fit.

The performances around him have highlighted even more how far off this level he is.

5-1 opening day win but still some people can’t wait to jump into this thread and start moaning. You lot must be a right laugh at parties . He was ok today in terms of his pressing and defensive work, he was clearly used because his energy and work rate is useful against a team like Leeds. He won’t start over Sancho next week and will not be seen much in the PL once everyone is back and fit so don’t stress yourselves over it, enjoy the win.

I really don't want to be negative after that win, but I really can't see it with him at all. Don't see what he does well, but can clearly see what he doesn't do well.

Seems to fall over at slightest of touches and runs into players so often. 5 goals and took no part in of them is not a great look either. I would honestly move him on, but no chance of that it seems.

He's been here for almost 2 years now with barely any improvements to be seen.
Those first 2 months he had have been such a fluke :annoyed:

Hard worker which has gotten him to the top but lack of creativity really stood out today with the performances of Pogba, Bruno and Greenwood. But he was just keeping a place warm for Sancho. He will see his playing when Sancho and Greenwood need a break.

Calm down. He will only play in specific roles when other players get back.

Doesn’t deserve to be in the team. The standout (and only) poor performer today. No technique, no shot, no pass - he is just useless.

Huffing and puffing, all he's got to show for it are frustrated teammates unfortunately. Archetype of a backup player.

I still think we should loan him out. It will do him a world of good especially with less pressure on him, to build him up. He got into some great positions but his execution was not there.
Still dont think hes a starter for us and his place will for sure be taken by Sancho, and then restricted even further once Rashford and Cavani are available.

Would not get minutes at any other top club in the world. Takes up space for our young players and Ole will never take the decision to play Amad/Elanga/Hannibal etc before James. If we hadn't had special young players waiting for an opportunity, I wouldn't care much if he is here as long as the team wins.

His best contributions today were a good tackle and his sliding poise for our goal celebrations.

Needs to go out on loan tbh, poor decision making etc.

Ideally, Diallo stays and James is farmed out.

Showed all his trademark moves today:
  • Outmuscled and fell to the floor x2
  • Dribbled ball out of play x2
  • Silly offside x1
  • Pea-roller shot x1
  • Comically overhit cross x1
We should bite Leeds or Brighton’s hands off if they want to pay £15m for him. Isn’t good enough and never will be.

He is so out of his depth its painful.

Constantly offside, running into defenders, making the wrong ball etc.

Yet some people will still say "Don't be so harsh, he did his part" and thats been our biggest problem in the last few years, average players being given our backing because "at least they try". That isn't enough and accepting that is going to make getting back to the top impossible.

He's no where near the level he should be at United and a loan would have done him some good.

You know what’s worse than him being that glaringly bad? Is that he’s actually giving 110%. He’s literally maxed out and just so, so bad at top level football.

For his sake and this teams sake, cut him off. We’re no longer short on wingers

I don't rate him but I wonder if him always giving 110% is actually holding him back a bit by always effecting his ability to make the right decision etc.

The guy runs around like he is from the Looney Toons and then ends up always messing up some sort of attack afterwards.

Maybe he needs to add some Martial- Ness to his play.

He is out of his depth and shows when he's playing around class footballers. Very few good moments over the last 2 seasons. Just needs to be sold and the squad place given to another promising youngster.

I would imagine most posted positive things in plenty of other threads. No one wants to bash a United player, but it’s undeniable he stands out when everyone is playing at a high level.

Gets away with it against Leeds, who are always going to push forward and leave space. Most of the time he is going to be a hindrance.

Exactly, quite often some inferior players or say squadies look good next to quality players but not in this case. He's really hopeless. Really pissed me off when he fecked up on almost every single occassion. The worst of all are those two dumb offside when he could easily stay on side if he was a bit smarter or not lazy enough.

So yeah let's sell him when he still has some value and replace him with a quality youngster. I hope Elanga can step up this year and displace him for his minutes. While Amad and Facundo can getvaluable minutes on loan and can come back. Then it will inevitably happen.

It's a player performance thread and he quite clearly was absolutely terrible. Nothing came off him, he deserves criticism. Those who are saying he's a good squad player are clueless, he's not good enough for that either and that valuable game time needs to be given to other players, but agreed we won't see him much in this season once everyone is back anyway.

Human/Jack Russell hybrid.
Yes, I have a Jack Russell and that is what springs to mind watching him. Small but fast, bags of energy and willingness but absolutely bonkers what he does with it. What he does bring is work rate, pressing nd a shift for the team. But his movement, touch, finishing, final ball, decision making......its simply not good enough.

I am sure he and Lingard are sellable even in the current climate.....£30-50m for the two surely = defensive midfield signing which gives us so much more than either player I feel

Absolutely terrible is your opinion, I thought he did well in terms of pressing and his defensive play but struggled in the attacking third with his decision making. I still believe Ole was right when he suggested a while ago that his future could be as an attacking fullback but wherever he ends up I agree that he does not have a long term future here. I commented simply because some of the vitriol seems over the top, after a 5-1 win it would never occur to me to rush to the Caf and start slagging off our weakest link, at least not straight after the game.

I thought he did well without being amazing.
I agree, typically doesn’t deserve the negative vitriol he’s getting here.

He gives his all, puts in a huge shift defensively and pressing. With better timed runs he could have been in on goal 3/4 times in first half.

Can we do better? Yes. But I’m happy with him as a squad option when we have areas like DM to address first.
We are stacked in his position but games like today he does the dirty work the other players in his position cant.

He put in a lot of work as he always does and deservers praise for that, but sadly his quality on the ball is not there. His ball control, passing and shooting left a lot to be desired.

It's fair to say that as soon as Sancho, Martial and Cavani reach full fitness within the next 2-3 weeks his chances will become limited.

alright mate, I won't read further. Check other opinions in this thread to get an idea, whose opinion is absolutely terrible, jeezus wept. If you think that MUFC RW is doing well being just a good presser than you really need to see a doctor. Everything he's done lacked quality, he either lose the ball made bad decision, got outmuscled, had a weak shot, or was offside. Have a good night.

Good off the ball, absolutely terrible every time when he got to actually touch it. And, sadly, we all knew that this would be the case.

Such a likeable guy, but simply not a good footballer. As someone said earlier, the sad thing is that he actually gives his all — and then some, but still looks hopeless.

Is like beating a dead horse at the moment. We all know he's not good enough and his minutes will be reduced massively this season with Sancho, Rashford and Greenwood ahead of him. Not much else to be said.

He looks cute doesn’t he, like a koala bear or something. It makes you feel bad when you‘re cursing his pathetic weak shots and his sad eyes appear on your TV screen.

Thanks a lot and keep it up son. Why don't you continue on Tik Tok now though?

As "not good enough" as Lingard is to start for us he's still a tier up than James and those players should be used preferably as squad players not the likes of James who belong to the Championship/Bottom table, the gulf of quality is really there and for 15mil we took our chances but he didn't develop as we hoped. That's all good and next season Pellistri and Amad with Elanga can take his & Mata's spot. Life goes on.

Only weak link in today's starting XI performances. Swap out for Sancho in the next line-up. Simples.

Works his socks off and he's a lovely lad, so I refuse to get nasty about him the way some are on here.
