4:14 which of our midfielders is capable of this. Only one, Mejbri.

He is ready. I believe he'll quickly adapt to playing in the first team.
He needs a go in the proper team around our best players playing against opposition who can help him grow. I'm not sure he gets that anymore from the unders (well, I'd say he definitely doesn't, personally). The maturity issues are growing pains many a class teenager has gone through under the intense spotlight of the PL, and I don't see why he should be any different there.

His game is ready, and the more he runs rings around those below his level, the higher the likelihood of someone doing him, which with the frustration he generates makes him a bullseye for.

Not sure giving youth a chance is playing them when they aren’t ready and have our toxic fanbase lambast them for drawing a game.
Indeed, he'd get some cheap shitty nickname that the dickheads like to swing around here when we drop some points. Bellingham made completely the right call avoiding us and going to Dortmund where he can develop at his own pace.

I was expecting more from him, but maybe my expectations are too high.

Either way I think to protect him he needs to be pulled to the first team squad full time.

YEAH he is such a youth coach! Playing the 23-year-old Rashford who has over 200 games for United, and the AWB bought for 50 million who had over 50 first-team games, and the McTominay who had made his debut two seasons before Ole came in! That is what giving youth a chance means! I mean, he gave Rashford a chance! Well, we can of course ignore that he was one of the key players in the team, but still, such bravery should result in knighthood.

He is ready and would've already played plenty in a team like Dortmund.
Eh? That doesn't suddenly make them old players. As I said, only 2 teams had a younger team than us last season. Maybe, just maybe, there's a reason managers aren't throwing 17 and 18 year olds into the mix? You also seemed to have missed a name in your response, too. Doesn't fit?

Change the record. A team like Dortmund? You mean Dortmund. That's your one reference point. Because there's a reason the best sides aren't throwing kids onto the pitch because they've shown potential. Take off the blinkers and actually have a look at what we're doing compared to other clubs of a similar stature. You'll notice we stack up pretty favourably.

Base left of the 2 in 4-2-3-1 in this game?

For the first team, to get PT where do you think he will be deployed?

I don't know what the point of him playing in these games is anymore. He looks like he should be in the PL, either loaned or getting minutes with us.
It seemed like we were playing a 3-5-2 formation with Hannibal and Savage either side of Svidersky in central midfield with Mellor and Hoogerwerf on the flanks. Shoretire and McNeill looked like they were the most advanced forwards. But it was a bit confusing because MUTV showed a still of us setting up in a 4-2-3-1 formation with Hannibal as the #10, which was obviously wrong.

I think having watched him since he was at Monaco (they stream their youth games on YouTube) he can be used in a midfield 3 which is how he was being developed at Monaco and he's also shown the ability to play in a advanced attacking role as a Mezzala (half winger) or in the role playing off the main striker. But in our first team currently it seems like Bruno is best suited to playing the role just off the main striker, so I can't see us playing a 4-3-3, which would best suit Mejbri IMO. So he's either used as a back up to Pogba/Rashford on the left or used as a understudy to Fernandes. Because I think it's too risky playing him in one of the two deeper midfield roles as things stand because his defensive game needs time to develop which is normal for a young player his age.

We as a fan base need to be patient with him, because he will make mistakes which is normal for a young lad his age. But he's a young player that has a very complete skillset for a midfielder. He has a passing range both long and short, can dribble and offers many potential tactical solutions to a coach tactically due to his ability to play in several different roles. But I do hope he can now settle into a position on the pitch, which it looks like will be in midfield as per MUTV.

Didn’t realise he was sent off. Didn’t like the way he was waving two fingers at the ref in that clip. Would have hoped he’d learned his lesson after his last game for the U23s. Evidently not.
I can't even blame him. I only caught the last half hour but, in that third of the game alone, the opposition were allowed to manhandle him multiple times with no reproductions, and I can only imagine how many times they had already done so in the hour beforehand.

When opposition players are doing this every game, and getting away with it nine times out of ten, it's natural to react the way he does. Especially as a teenager.

Pogba, Galbraith and Iqbal. Maybe Matic and IHA, too. It's a great skill to have in central midfield.

Cheers.

Understudy to players you mentioned won't give him much PT, especially if we decide to deploy Sancho centrally when/if Fernandes is rested or rotated out.

I would like to think a few glimpses of his potentially immense talent would buy him time, tolerance and understanding as there's a player who could go on to be a superstar ironing out his game who is thrilling and of the class to be a solid contributor in the meantime.

Do you think he could play as the link behind Bruno and ahead of a deeper midfielder yet, or is it too soon for him to take on that kind of responsibility? Actually, a better way to ask is whether you believe he currently has the ability, intelligence and composure to play there?

Would you loan him out to get minutes or have him flit between unders and training here biding his time?

It’s not natural. It’s a problem he needs to sort out.

This is a much better way to react to having the shit kicked out of you as a teenager.

Pogba, yes. But he also loses the ball there dallying on the ball. Matic no way, in the past yes, but now he can't turn fast enough. The other three youths I can't speak to, but they're hardly ready for the first team like Mejbri. Making the point that - even though he'll take time to improve here and there - he's ready for a chance and so happens to be able to play a position for which we lack a player and have a pretty negative approach to account for that (or it may simply be Ole's preference).

Lot of people slightly talking themselves into things in this thread now. We've seen him get fouled off the pitch before and understandably lose it (the hair-pulling mob, for example). But those hacks and tactical fouls from Lincoln are only what Pogba endures every single time he plays. Pogba has learned that if he wants to be effective he needs to be able to ride/overpower fouls like that, because the free-kick is rarely as good as the break. Football isn't fair, and the referee isn't going to win the match for you.

Hannibal is obviously insanely talented. But we've seen a very long string of very talented youngsters look by far the best player on the pitch for most of their youth careers without ever learning the knack of actually making wins happen, which is what ultimately gets you into the first team. Andreas Pereira was head and shoulders above his U18 and U23 teammates, once upon a time.

Have to agree, yes it can be frustrating, but there are better ways to react. Simply makes players a bigger target if they’re not mentally on point and react the wrong way.

Fair point that.

That's as bad or worse than what Mejbri gets every week.

Him playing behind Bruno would mean he's deployed in a double pivot which I feel might be a tad risky at his age. He's got a fantastic work ethic but I think his defensive game is still evolving and not quite to the level required to play in such a position which requires a lot of discipline and maturity. So if Solskjaer tried it, I'd be intrigued to see how it goes but it would probably have to be against a so called lesser team and it would make life easier if we had a midfielder next to him with a strong defensive game. And I don't think we have that midfielder. But if we did have that midfielder, who has the defensive game to provide a platform for the midfielders like Mejbri, then I would hope to see us change formation to 4-3-3 whilst resting Bruno and having a midfield of Declan Rice as the DM flanked on either side by Pogba and Mejbri. But unfortunately we don't have that midfielder sadly. And Declan Rice playing next to Pogba and Mejbri wouldn't need to be great at passing the ball through the lines.

But having said all that, I feel he should be deployed in a similar way to how Spain used Pedri in a 3 man midfield with Busquets as the most defensive minded midfielder.

Jack Grealish reacted by getting drunk and crashing his car. Let's not use him as a example, shall we.

Mejbri's a fiery character with alot of passion. So it's gonna take a while for him to finally settle down like Eric Cantona did. Hopefully once he's kungfu kicked someone at Anfield, he'll be fine.

It's a shame how it ended because that will take away the shine from this performance. Everytime he was near someone I was praying that he didn't go for the tackle.

He is kind of player people will happily pay more to watch. Hopefully we will help him get to the level we all think he is capable of.

One query, does red card in this tournament makes him unavailable for reserves and first team next game ( not that he will play) ?
I think his suspension will only affect him in the EFL Trophy from what I've read. So he will be suspended for our next game in the competition.

It definitely is natural. Not everyone reacts the same. If you're getting kicked and manhandled EVERY game and the referee does nothing, the punching bag is eventually going to retaliate.

Grealish being more mature about it doesn't change that at all.

Considering your crush, I’m going to call it out as weird you’re harbouring pubescent videos of him.

On a serious note, the referee is much quicker to blow the whistle and protect Jack in that video than any ref has been to do the same for Hannibal while playing for our youth setup.

My view is:

1. I like that he’s a fiery character rather than passive. Some of our greatest players played on the edge like that.

2. That being said, if the league and referees aren’t going to protect him, United should. Either he’s with the first team full time from now on or he gets a loan to a league that has referees who aren’t all from the 70s.

Having watched the match yesterday, I’m still of the opinion that he is not quite ready for our first team. He gave the ball away a lot early on and physically has more development to go.

However, I’m pretty certain he will make it with us. The question now is should he stay to get the odd 15 minute cameo or develop his craft more on loan?

We should make experiment with him and Alvaro Fernandez as dynamic duo in midfield. Fernandez potentially has a great vision like Carrick, and Hannibal has creativity to unlock the tight defense.

his passing is on point and scores some good goal too. What a waste of talent to play him as defender.
Like Kimmich, TAA etc. Fullbacks with that amount of ability is welcome at the top level

Yeah, I do agree with most of that, but he cannot halfway house it at lower levels anymore, which is a problem because he needs games at a higher level, but, imo, also needs the protection of a club whose voice carries serious weight to put referees on blast who don't keep the game fair when it comes to the hits he receives.

There's 'toughening up', and then there's taking the piss with negligence of duty (doing your job as a ref!), which is what worries when a talent of that level plays against cloggers he is routinely making a fool of. At least if he's in the PL, he should be earning cards that put opposition in jeopardy for a repeat hack unless systematic rotation of offenders, which he's not worthy of until established as a serious threat in the division.

The formation and personnel issues you've mentioned are concerns, but it feels like we've got to work something out and not limit his development. The positions you mentioned are the worst of all to try and break into, however. Bruno plays a lot, and even when he doesn’t we can put Pogba or Sancho there, injuries permitting. Same goes for the left flank - it's just about our deepest attacking position, so he's unlikely to get anything but cup minutes there, if that.

He needs more than a handful of games, and with that said, would you ever consider a loan being the best thing for him? If yes, where would you like to see him go, bearing in mind we'd want him playing as often as possible.

And very many more where not especially reactive to situations. Passion and drive is fine, but it really needs to be focused.

That focus comes with maturity. That sort of fire and determination is not something you can coach, it’s what made/makes players like Keane, Rooney and Bruno.

That sense of injustice that makes them angry and drives them on.

100%.

Donny isn't physically ready and a rubbish footballer. Mejbri isn't physically ready and a fantastic footballer. Mejbri can actually keep the ball under pressure regardless of how big his opponent is so he's already better from a physical standpoint anyway.

'Majestic Mejbri' at times.

Keep playing him in midfield. We could use a talent like him in midfield. They're difficult to find, and developing or finding an attacker is much easier. Kid obviously has a great sense of the bodies around him, has the technique to match it, and is calm to not give the ball away when under pressure.

I suspect he's saying he actually hasn't seen Fernandez play as a midfielder before, as opposed to, he doesn't see him as a midfielder.

It does make some sense as I don't think he has the required pace of a top level full back

Eh? Donny is an excellent footballer with great technique. Ole has a fetish for playing with a midfield with terrible technique and passing as we can clearly see is the case with McTominay and Fred. Matic certainly had technique, but everything about him is gone. He should no longer be playing in Premier League. How much has Donny played for United in total? 400 minutes? And when he plays it's usually with his inferior players who sadly does not give him much to work with. He needs to play with good, intelligent players to play to his strengths. That's not possible with the likes of Pereira and Lingard. And unfortunately there's no room for him when Pogba and Fernandes are on the pitch (perhaps Fernandes but we'd sacrifice defensive responsibilities).

Needless to say, Southampton was a perfect fixture for Donny to play in. What the absolute feck was Ole thinking playing Matic and Fred in a double pivot? Horrible decision.

We need midfielders like him at this club. Love to see him get some game time this season even if it is only cameo appearances first.
Being with and around the first team will only be good for him. I mean there are players on our bench who are just taking up space

He gave it away in a really sloppy fashion four or five times last night.

He's really talented but if he does get a shot at the first XI soon a few should get ready for him losing possession quite a bit.

Interesting game. Lincoln could have had a couple of cards for the blatant fouls but it’s something he’ll have to get used to. You have to also remember that they had quite a few young players out themselves due to injuries and while he showed the ability we know he has, you can’t compare that level to the PL where he’s have less space. On the plus side he’d be alongside senior players so the onus wouldn’t be on him solely.

I’d like to see him make one or two more cameos but I feel Shoretire is ahead in Ole’s plans for his temperament as well as ability

You can't extrapolate like that though. For a start, he's a newbie coming in to play with far superior players to himself at this moment in time - he's not the big dog or the one expected to dictate for the whole team when going up - and he will have to defer to them and follow instructions they give and Bruno isn't shy in making that clear.

- He's got better options, better movement and more players who can effortlessly play on his wavelength in the 1st squad. He doesn't have to force the play or do anything particularly exuberant when those showing for the ball will make it so much easier for him to find them.

- Coming in as a newbie, not over-extending himself is vital as to keep getting minutes he has to show there's a net value to him being out there over someone else. Playing within himself somewhat until he has a bit of reputation and worth to the team is paramount and I'd think he has the intelligence to understand that.

Keeping his nerve and having the confidence to play and relay the ball without flubbing the basics would be the first order of business, I think, and as long as his nerves hold, he easily has the technique and awareness to make waves by just being a competent retainer of possession, which we're crying out for.

Yep, one of the few he actually gave a chance. Although he insisted on playing James before him a lot, he is forgiven now. He just needs to stop subbing him now.
I’m sure he’ll take solace in you forgiving him.

Don’t think that’s the point of the comparison. Stick to the point and not go off on an agenda driven rant
