Anyone still think Jorginho is not in the frame for Balon'Dor?

Nailed on I'd say

He'd the most underwhelming Ballon d'Or ever. Even worse than Cannavaro's or Modric's
Maybe, but so would Kante, Messi is an outside shout maybe.

This just goes back to the true statement that Chelsea have been a successful cup team the past few years and irrelevant when it comes to the PL. These are strictly UEFA competition awards.

I really have a hard time with awards like that that seem to be the sum of the titles a player got. He's not the best player at Chelsea in the CL, not the best player for Italy but he gets the POTY title. Odd.

Agree. The best players aren't always on the winning team, especially when there is no real standout player from the winning team.

Best player for Italy in Euros was arguably Donnaruma, with Chellini, Bonucci, Jorginho, Chiesa, and a couple others having their moments, but not as consistent or importantly than Donnaruma.

And Mancini's Italian squad and performances were much much more impressive than what any other manager did in UEFA tournaments the past year.

Does anyone truly care about the individual awards? They’re as much a popularity contest as they are about individual and team success.

How is a mediocre player like Jorginho up for these awards? Football has lost the plot.

Am I missing something? Kante and Jorginho but no Bruno?:lol::lol: I can’t even be mad anymore, FIFA not even bothering to hide their hatred for us.
Because although they weren't better than Fernandes week by week last season they delievered for their team(s) when it mattered whereas the Portuguese didn't.

He was the mastermind registra behind the Italian team and the Chelsea team winning the Euro's and Champions League. You've lost the plot if you think he shouldnt be up for these awards mate. Calling Jorginho mediocre really shows your lack of understanding and lack of care to understand tactics. He controls and is one step ahead of the tactical tug of war in games, your comment regarding Jorginho is tactless, just like the idiotic Chelsea fans who were bashing Jorginho early on. A player like Jorginho is exactly what we lack. We cant control games from midfield because we have Scott, Fred and Matic.

But please, do come back to me with a sassy or obnoxious comment, this is what I expect as a response from someone calling Jorginho mediocre. Waiting for it.

Really feels like an alternate timeline.

Jorginho winning a UEFA player of the year award. Messi and Ronaldo playing for PSG and City. That super-league nonsense earlier.

What's next I wonder...

Mediocre? He is magic in his position.
However, I understand that some fans only go for the flashy players.

Jorginho alone will transform your midfield into actually competent passers of a football. Mediocre? Those grapes are sour I see. Who should it have gone for? Which other player was instrumental in his teams winning the CL and Euros? Bruno? I mean aside from spending most of his time in the Euros on the Portuguese bench he did lead United out of the CL group stages into the Europa league finals where they only lost to a great Villarreal side. Sterling? The twice losing finalist? Messi? Kante? Lewandowski? Who?

Instrumental? Wasn’t in the top 3 players for either team, wasn’t the best midfielder even for either team.

I don't expect a United fan who obviously hardly watches our games to tell me and the rest of Europe who Chelsea's top 3 players in the Champions league was.
In the Euros, wasn't he the only midfielder to have started every single match in Italy's run? I don't really care if you don't rate his game, obviously a lot more of Europe do and deservedly awarded him for it. Kante could have easily taken it if France had won the Euros, aside from him Jorginho was the next best thing.

My Chelsea supporting friend says Mount, Kanté were better, James, Havertz, Rudiger, Mendy as good. Kanté much, much better.

In the Euros, he started every single match because Verratti wasn't available at the start of the tournament, I thought Verratti was better in the big games near the end and Locatelli was better at the start. Donnarumma, Chiellini and Bonucci were better for me, Spinazzola and Chiesa in the games they played.

So would you have given it to Mount if Sancho and Saka scored their penalties?

“My Chelsea supporting friend” so it's confirmed that these opinions are not based on your own observations but secondarily informed. Kante, Jorginho and Mount were my top3 players in the CL for us so your friend hasn't really made a case for your previous post. Out of that top 3 who won the CL for us, he is the only one who's team won the other top European competition in which he was a constant feature in the team. Yes Mount would have been deserving as well if England won the Euros instead.
At the Euros he started every single match because he was the best, inform Italian midfielder. Was he benched when Veratti became available? No your best Italian midfielder Locatelli was.
Again don't think your subjective views of what a midfielder should play like, is the view of the rest of the world. What Jorginho does on the field is better appreciated by footballing minds bigger than yours.

Stop being so condescending about ‘football minds bigger than yours’, dearie me. Jorginho hasn’t even been in contention for the best midfielder in the PL in all the time he’s been there and in fact has spent more time being somewhat a liability than anywhere near a dominant figure.

Kanté is way more important to Chelsea than Jorginho, I’ve seen that with my own eyes and it’s confirmed by almost every Chelsea fan I’ve spoken to. I don’t watch every game Chelsea has ever played but I’ve seen all the important games on which this award is decided.

Where do you rate him as best midfielders in the world?
