Why on earth did we reject a proposal from Inter Milan for Martial who's on enormous wage, when this has been made known to us, I just don't understand this club.
Maybe because we want Haaland?
I'd sell Martial then use that money and wages to get Haaland next summer. Signing Ronaldo back and our wages budget simply won't be able to afford Haaland. We're not those oil clubs.

The love between United and Ronaldo has apparently always been one-sided. I would think he still has good memories from United, but he may not have felt anything special for the club, since he is now going to City. He also left United, as the club had helped him advance to being a top player.

I have to look at it this way; If anyone wants to wear my worn underpants, then they are welcome to do so.

I think this would be the easiest hijack in transfer history. Come on he is most probably a billionaire, money isn‘t the number one factor here. Sure he has better chances of grabbing some titles with City, but at the cost of destroying his UTD legacy, his relationship with his 2nd father Ferguson and so on. If we would over something similar than City, there would be a Ronaldo 7 seven shirt playing at OT by September- 100%. If not, it is because the club/Glazers are already crying about the Sancho and Varane money and decided against Ronaldo. A wrong decision imo. At the end we are talking about Ronaldo, a no brainer to get him. You all know his topless pictures and stuff, he is still more shredded than 90% of PL players and you can easily get 2 massive seasons out of him. To think we are turning this down just to feck arround with Martial at 9 half the season, managing to score what? 5? Come on … that is bad mismanagement right there. But yeah, in the it‘ll be a top 4 challenge again, not more.

Still think he will be a United legend, even if he does well at City.

This isn’t surprising when you realize Ronaldo never loved/respected United. He loves/respects Sir Alex who happened to be his manager and father figure while playing for us. Big difference.

Nobody will be singing Viva Ronaldo anymore. That’s for sure.

If he does, he wouldn't be moving to City.

Different times, his signing is something they can and will use for future growth

Also depends on how he acts towards United - does he always speak highly, not react negatively to the inevitable booing etc.

True. But he's betraying Sir Alex if he joins City.

Imo not really.

For me he's simply like a girl I met and fecked for a while then both went each way. There's not much love there so no hard feeling. We all knew he'd leave by his second or third season with us if my memory serves me right. You can't be heart broken if there's no much love. If for example Scholes somehow decided to play for City I'd be very upset and bitter but not Ronaldo. He's not worth that I think.

I think the key differences are.

1) Denis Law had played for City before us anyway
2) law gave us his best years and the vast majority of his career
3) Denis Law actually was a legend for united, rather than someone else

Why is Law mentioned in this thread? Law played all his best years at ManUtd and he wasn't given contract because of injury issues (also he was past it). Ronaldo spent his best years elsewhere.

Same with Schmeichel, Cole they all spent their best years at ManUtd.

Well, he wants out of Juve and he wants a ridiculous wage. I'm guessing we turned down the opportunity to re-sign him, PSG don't seem to want him so I really don't see any other options within Europe other than City. Basically, his choice was us or City or stay put.

Don't think he's worth £500k pw and hope he has a massive decline if he chooses that team.

Don’t read blue moon :(:(:(
Yeah sorry, but the only thing I noticed looking there yesterday is how much those cnuts are moaning at the way their club is handling transfer business or can't get the deal done.
It's easily on the level that's been here and when you count all the deals they made during the last 10+ years and their success it is actually astonishing. Guess all those years being in the football basement makes the fanbase somehow even more entitled and not the other way around. Should be a solid case study in that sense, but not sure who would be interested to deal or read more about that bunch.

As for Ronaldo, let him be. Let's see how it goes on the pitch first. After initial excitement and pleasure it can easily go tits up, especially with Pep entering his last two years and announcing it. Ronaldo isn't so young anymore while his ego is the same, if not bigger. He also isn't excatly Pep kind of player and if it somehow goes ugly, it can go very ugly. In the end, that's all what it matters, they can have one over United and that juvenile crap for now.

A 36-year old player who Juventus wants rid, and thinks would be better off without him than with, and would cost 100m over 2 seasons and completely destroy our wage structure in the process.

Keep in mind that he has been flirting with going back to RM all summer, and they have shown zero interest in that.

Time to move forward here.

If he wants to go be subservient to Pep who will 100% try to reinvent him, that's his choice.

The only loyalty Ronaldo has ever had is to himself.

Him moving to Real Madrid was the betrayal. Like the girl you once thought could be the love of your life during a brief post-nut haze. But then she told you she was leaving you for someone she thinks is better.

Him moving to Manchester City means nothing by comparison. Like the girl you've been separated from for over a decade, who flirted openly with other guys in front of you back when you were together, who never saw you as any more than a fling, who spent the best years of her life with someone else, and who only ever treated you as short-term option during college. If that girl wants to start dating your worst enemy, that's up to her. At this point in time, there's enough clarity to see it was all fakeness and flattery any way. It's like still being attached to a one-night stand that was over in 2009.

I can understand it if the ***** are getting upset. But Ronaldo has never been a legend for me, and he doesn't deserve the devotion that some United fans have given him since he left us with our pants down. Moving to City would be on-brand for him.

The situation is akin to the Grealish transfer for me: an undeniably top player who will strengthen City. But one I don't really give a shit about on a personal level. This transfer has no more emotional impact than City signing Messi instead. Or AIG deciding to sponsor Liverpool.

We can easily fund this move and wages for a couple of years. Cavani won’t play for us again in 2021.

Lingard to PSG to replace Mbappe - £80m
Dalot to Dortmund for the Sancho money - £70m

Why do we make it over complicated?

Imagine outbidding City for Maguire, Fred & Sanchez and then not trying for Ronaldo.

He also scored a goal that knocked us out of the first division, but that didn’t stop him from being a legend.

I can't imagine him not firing for them. Any decent striker will and Ronaldo is more than decent. I'd also imagine he's hungrier now to prove something which makes him even better

How many more times will Law be mentioned and the myth about his goal knocking us out to 2nd division.

This.

mom also amazed at the number of posters that seem to have the feeling that if we signed 36 year old Ronnie that we would win the league at a canter, we wouldn’t.

No, he didn't relegate us.

The opening part of the article is spot on.
Mark Twain once said "Never let the truth get in the way of a good story" and Denis Law relegating Manchester United in 1974 was far too good a story to get bogged down in inconvenient truths.

The relevant bit
In reality, though, his goal was irrelevant. Even if United had won, it wouldn't have saved them from relegation as Birmingham beat Norwich to ensure their survival.

I think as well as that the rivalry was nowhere near as heated then. In fact, a lot of fans supported Manchester generally and would show up at Maine Road or OT depending on who had a home game.

Additionally it was an era in which top players earned well, but not astronomical sums of money relative to a normal person. When Law was no longer wanted by us and an offer came in from City it would have been seen as daft not to take it as he would not need to uproot his family, sell his house or any of the other stuff that is less of a big deal when you are earning tens of millions a year.l

I don't think its a similar situation, I think the reason some fans are mad, my friends, are because he is joining a stacked club that happen to be your derby Rivals. United are everything City arent and Ronaldo, who was "made" in Manchester red is going there to win more in blue. That tied in with Fergie, the father figure and his thoughts on City as a club, there much more going on.

I agree with his 100%. He forfeited his legend status by moving to Madrid when he did and in the manner he did. If he ends up spending the golden years of his career at City it really wouldn't make a difference. Some United fans' devotion to Ronaldo is completely baffling and somewhat pathetic. He was good while he was with us, but he didn't want to be here - end of.

You’re dreaming mate.
To be fair, he probably would come here if we made a decent offer and he would probably lower his wage demands from what City are being quoted. As much of a tw*t as he was, I don’t think his ego could resist a romantic return to United where he thinks we all still sing his name (and many admittedly still do).

There are people actually arguing City aren’t rivals and not because City are evidently clear of us. I guess burying your head in the sand is one way of coping.

He’s not motivated by romance. He’s interested in literally two things, possibly three:

1) Champions League titles
2) Ballon d’ors
3) Wages
