Comic books trying to be overly P.C. or a welcome addition of diversity and inclusivity to this universe?

If there's one character that we all knew was political rather than heterosexual, then surely it would be Robin.

Children's book The Tiger Who Came To Tea 'could lead to rape and harassment' because it reinforces gender inequality that causes violence against women, campaigner claims

The Mail is such an evil, shit-stirring rag.

Both these quotes from the same article.

Meghan Gallacher, the Scottish Conservatives' spokesman for children and young people, told The Daily Telegraph: 'While attitudes understandably change over time, parents will be left bemused at some of these claims by Zero Tolerance.

'This sort of language is completely unhelpful as we try to educate children about much-loved publications from days gone by.There are far better ways for this publicly funded group to go about changing attitudes, rather than simply calling for these books to be banned from nurseries.'
Miss Adamson did not call for the book to be banned but said it could be used to 'raise a conversation' in nurseries.
Also. Any excuse to post this.

The DM is certainly playing to the galleries, but stuff like that does detract from the broader push for a more tolerant society. It was two female colleagues I'm in a chat with that sent the link saying 'this is not helpful'.

I think the idea that you can highlight the very traditional gender roles when discussing the story with kids is fine. Taking issue with the gender of the tiger seems a bit mental though.

:lol:Yeah I guess it's less obvious what gender a tiger is compared to a lion and I'd never even considered it. The book was written in the 1960s, which she seems to forget, when criticising the dad being out at work while the mum is at home. I'm sure the parent can use their discretion to explain that if they felt the need.

I just read it yesterday finally. It doesn't come across as forced really in terms of trying to be PC. There was room in defining this character that this storyline actually fit and wasn't a retcon exactly. They can use it to give him a unique deeper background than the "middle" robin really.

They could discuss how a male tiger that comes across a female with cubs fathered by a different male will kill and eat the cubs and then shag their mother.

And also show that video of a tiger killing a giant crocodile, that's a really good one.

Eh, that article doesn't really say what the rando on Twitter says it does. Blade Runner has a dystopian setting by any measure, and whether or not it's related to anti-immigration sentiment in any way (I doubt it), it does focus on multiculturalism.
Maybe I'm misreading it but the article take on E.T(Has a opposite message to Blade runner, it shows ''beings from elsewhere are gentle and benign. The really awful people are the the present adult white american inhabitants'')along with saying that Scott clearly had in his mind the possibility of cultural disaster is kinda of trying to paint Blade Runner as anti immigration.

Didn't know whether to put this in the Political Corectness thread or the Cop one.

Planet Of Cops by Freddie DeBoer

The irony of our vibrant and necessary police reform movement is that it’s happening simultaneously to everyone becoming a cop. I mean everyone — liberal, conservative, radical and reactionary.
Do people like being cops? Do they like being in a position to make demands? Do they like lazily threatening people, “nice company you have here… wouldn’t want it to get embroiled in some controversy”? People are alienated and worn down and hopeless, and so they see their opportunity to finally be the one pulling over somebody else’s car, lazily tapping the glass with their flashlights. “I’m the one in charge now,” he thinks, as he sends an email to somebody’s boss over a Facebook status he doesn’t like.

Gammon, remoaner, Karen and snowflake are among the words added to Ofcom’s list of offensive terms

'Karen', typically used to refer to an entitled middle-class, and normally white woman, and 'gammon', a term referring to right-wing, pro-Brexit men, are joined by words such as 'libtard', 'remoaner', 'snowflake' and 'boomer' on Ofcom's list of words which could upset viewers and listeners.

The anti-left words are all just mild insults. The anti-'right' words all have clear raciaI or age related connotations, which are supposed to be protected characteristists. ANY ONE OF ANY AGE OR CREED can be a remoaner, snowflake etc.
My Opinion Somewhere really lovely, United Kingdom, 3 hours ago
If the wokists were really clever they would invent new words to describe new concepts, instead of taking words currently in use and trying to give different meanings to them. But I expect that is far too difficult for them to do.

How about a new description then? Mrs Doubtpfizer would seem to fit the bill

A little bit with the 36 gender stuff yeah. If you want me to call you he/she/they, fine. I’m not calling you one of the made up ones though.
