For a while, it felt like we were setting all the wrong type of records. A nice little piece of history there, it will take some beating.

Next 3 away games are against West Ham, Leicester and Spurs. Winnable, but it will be some achievement if we manage to break 30 games unbeaten.

On average, one club a season will do better away than at home. Last season 10 clubs did better away than at home. So the lack of crowds clearly made it easier to play on the road, we saw that up and down the league. Doesn’t mean what we did was easy, but it was certainly a factor.
I agree it was easier. My point was that (1) even though it was easier, it was not a walk in the park. Other teams weren't able to replicate that, and (2) this season the away fixtures will be the toughest (compared to past seasons with fans) given the genuine euphoria around this.

So if we can win the next 3-4 away games, it would give the squad a HUGE boost.

It's quite something going from fortress Old Trafford to the best away team in the prem by a distance. Hopefully, with the fans back in the mix, we'll transfer that away form to our home games at some point this season.

I’m surprised so many people are that bothered. It led us to no silverware & 90% of the games were in empty stadiums. Kinda small time. Who gives a shit about this record really? With the squad we have we need to start actually winning stuff. Celebrating this feels kinda Spursey fellas not gonna lie.

If anything you're the one overreacting to it. Regardless of the lack of trophies it's still a great achievement and we weren't the only team playing with no fans, weren't all other teams playing in empty stadiums, why didn't they go unbeaten away from home. Lighten up, no one is celebrating it but it's still a record to be proud of.

Surely the 'no fans' excuse works both ways though?. I mean wouldnt our home form of been better if we had the fans cheering us on?.
Also it was the same situation for every other team in the league too and they didnt go unbeaten.

Why didn't any other team come close to it then?

It’s a statistical anomaly. Meaningless really.Like all the crap about Arsenal's so called invincibles.
Were they invincible? Not at all .Lost to us in the Cup & Barca in the CL.Invincible my ass.

It's a nice record and fair play to the players and Ole. But the fact that we're trophyless makes this record feel somewhat empty.

What does it really mean though? We’re clearly not invincible on the road, we lost to Leicester, Leipzig, Istanbul & Roma. It’s just a pretty meaningless anomaly, achieved in empty stadiums, which pretty much kills the away disadvantage anyway.

I don't see anyone going OTT celebrating it either, it's just a mention and people are getting triggered by it as if fans are on the streets celebrating it.

No offence but wtf do you get out of the miserable posts on here. Have you got some bet with one of the mods ?

Football is a silly hobby to past away the time and to forget about the awful hell world we are currently living in. If you don't think our away record is worth talking about just stay out of the thread.

This is a great record.

I think it hints to us being really strong on the counter attack when visiting teams at their homes. They usually play more expansive games because of the home crowd. And us being weak on breaking down low blocks, because they come hunkering down at Old Trafford.

Nothing good. In fact nothing at all, just like everything means nothing. All events are just probability blips on the way to the blessed release of death...and I bet that's shit too.

Trying a little too hard with this take. It's completely valid to look at individual competitions separately when counting unbeaten streaks, and any team doing it over a full season is massive.

They also didn't lose to Barca in the CL

This is also the kind of take that makes one look for white text hiding in a corner.

You, er, do know where the home crowd was for the vast majority of this streak, yes?

I was thinking of the year Barca beat them in Paris. But that means they lost to someone else in the CL of course. Also I seem to recall them being very lucky to draw some of the games they drew in the League.
Pretty sure invincible means unbeatable by the way.So again, Invincible my ass!

Anyone that never changes their mind doesn’t have one.
I took it more as reassurance for everyone else that you wouldn't keep repeating the same things over and over. Everyone gets it: you're not impressed with United's current (and ongoing) away record that no other team in the one-hundred-and-thirty-three-year history of the English Football League has managed to equal. Why do you keep feeling like you need to denigrate it, over and over?

Nope. Not a trophy. Yet literally no one is claiming it is. It's an achievement.

You know what else "isn't a trophy"? United's astonishing record of fielding a youth graduate in their match day lineup for over 4,000 games, going back eighty-four years. I don't know about you, but I'm proud of that non-trophy too. It says a great deal about our club.

Couldn't agree more. Going unbeaten on it's own through a season without winning anything would be ok, it would mean you were drawing way too many games but at least it would showcase a defensively strong team. Going unbeaten only away from home and still not winning anything means literally zilch even if it continues for all of this season as well.

I'd rather we lost more games if it means we won more and had more points. Draw percentage is staggering high (which is why we're unbeaten away) because we setup too defensively.

The teams that are capable of it usually don't play for draws with the frequency we did last season.

Not knocking the achievement, it's good. But we were quite cautious last season, and that definitely shows up in this stat.

If we held that record and Arsenal came along and broke it with all games played in empty stadiums you would be saying the same thing as me I reckon, it just isn’t the same, getting a win at an empty Anfield stadium for example is not as difficult.
I agree with this, it’s good but not quite carling

home support plays a massive part in sports so to not have it is a factor
I think there was more away wins in general than ever before

You guys look at this the wrong way. Teams dont win trophys out of nowhere — at least not if you take away pure luck which you can have in cups sometimes. Before you win anything worth winning, at a level where you repeatly can win leagues and cups, the team needs genereate different postives results and records such as this. Does achiving this record mean that we are guaranteed to win anything? — absolutely not. Does this mean that we are making ground and heading in the direction of trophies? — absolutely yes. Is it better to have this record for this current team than not? — absolutely yes.

FFS you had me in the first half of your sentence :D

Indeed, it is one of the things that make United great. I'm not from Manchester. Hell, I'm not even from Europe, let alone the UK but if you think about only Manchester, just imagine if you're a little kid dreaming of playing football at the highest level, then you have a local club that has its doors open for you. That must be some inspiration for young kids!

That's what made the Class of 92 extra special. And the only reason I desperately want Lingard to turn it around at United too.

Absolutely. It's a truly great thing about our club, a counterbalance to the not-so-great aspects (such as the owners).

Home and away forms need to be good overall to win a title, obviously. So, at least, we are doing one thing right and can't put it down as not important.
