That was a masterclass in how NOT to play CF against a low-block side. Constantly dropping into the space the AMs want to play in, no runs in behind, can't hold the ball up, movement is so bad it's untrue.

Whoever put the idea into his head that he is a CF has ruined a very promising career

Problem is, he wasn’t involved enough. Whether or not that’s him and his lack of effort or how disjointed we always look is up for debate. Bit of both I think. Shame

If we sub him off tonight and replace him with Greenwood centrally, we probably win. That's how much of a waste of space he has become and I used to be a fan.

Also for those saying he's not a #9, while I agree that he isn't, he's not a winger anymore either. He has lost the dribbling/pace threat that he used to have when he arrived here. Aside from the odd one or two link up play moments per game, he offers nothing else anymore.

Needs to move on for everyone's sake (ours and his). Shame as he looked brilliant in patches over the years but he's as good as pointless these days.

He's had an absolute disaster tonight. He shouldn't lead the line again

It's hard enough for us without having to play 10v11.

But again I don't blame Martial. It's on Ole for playing him despite his performances.

If Cavani or Ronaldo had started as striker, we would have at least taken it to penalties.

Shite.

There. I've already put more effort into this post than Martial has put into keeping his United career alive.

Shocking display.

If he can't do the business against the second string of west ham at home then clearly he's no good to us even as a squad player.

We effectively played vast stretches of the game a man down because martial couldn't be arsed.

1 goal in the last 24 matches. Embarrasing return.

Sheriff wasn't very good tonight. It's like his shadows shadow was playing. Jheez

I’m 100% convinced Ole has had enough of this guy too, he’ll stick up for him as he should in the public eye but he will be gone the second we can find a buyer,

I wouldn’t be surprised if he leaves in the winter window, I dont want to grill the guy too much as you never know what’s going on in there life behind the scenes but he’s never ever improved on his weaknesses and has regressed so much, extremely poor showing tonight and never takes his opportunity

Time for both parties to agree a departure for the sake of the club, the player and the fans sanity

Unfathomable decline.
Very fathomable. He doesn't move into dangerous areas by instinct and any effort he put in to overcome his defects dropped off as soon as he started sulking because Cavani came in.

Same fecking trick as when Zlatan joined.

He's weak mentally.

I can even see why Ole started him. League Cup, a cup he won't be judged on by the board, and he looked sharp in his sub appearances in the league. He should have been hauled off in the second half though.

"Martial...He's isolated Skrtel here..."
So sad watching him now after the beast he was a couple seasons ago for us. Looks like he has 0 confidence and still doesn't have a clue how to move around space without the ball, which is a bummer because he's brilliantly gifted still with it at his feet.

Hopefully we sell him to a side that attacks well and can revive his career

Poor again, not sure what the feck has happened to him. Not helped by Lingard being so unbelievably selfish though.

Nah, he's worse now than he's ever been. Yes, his mentality is terrible and he can't deal with competition, but he's never been this bad. If the last 12 months was all you had to go by you'd not spend 10m on him.

I’d have him as our 5th choice striker. Ronaldo, Cavani, Greenwood and Rashford are all ahead of him.

He needs to go.

Doesn't look like he could score at the moment in a brothel with a suitcase full of 100's and a 12 inch dick, and frankly doesn't look interested, not sure why Ole kept him on.

He has zero attacking instinct, he's not a forward. He's a tricky winger who can finish on occasion. His movement is some of the poorest I've ever seen from a CF

Casey Stoney has nailed it. Look at the work rate of Martial compared to Jarrod Bowen. That was the difference.

It's such a shame how it's turned out for him. Maybe he needs a loan like Lingard got, realistically though it's probably time to move the poor lad on.
