Pretty rubbish performance. I can’t even say I’m particularly bothered or surprised. Conceding from a set piece, lack of cutting edge.
What I will say for some perspective is that..
- Sir Alex lost at home to Villa in 2009.
- it’s still early in the season, losing games now doesn’t count. You get double points for victories later in the season.
- we need to sign a Dm for at least 70 million before we can fully judge this team
- we had more shots and possession today
- Chelsea lost

And if you think it's bad now, just wait until you see our schedule for the next two months.

I didn't know that we have restrictions on freedom of speech? Why is the Ole out thread blocked? As a coach he has no clue. He should go.

The problem with your whole game plan being “just go out and want it more” is if the other team want it more, you’re basically fecked
Or if the other team plays smarter than you.

Horrendous result given the run of fixtures we're facing into. But a worse performance, especially as it was completely in line with our not-good-enough performances last year.

Nothing has changed except better players being added, which is nowhere near enough. And adding better players again (like a top quality midfielder) won't be enough either.

The way our general play is coached needed to improve this season and it hasn't.
The getting a midfielder has always worried me. Yes we definitely need one but was not convinced with Ole and Co. it would make much difference. Wish he would stop calling them boys, they are grown men, treat them like grown me.

When you have week in week out posts in post match threads like "3pts, will take that, performance not best" and "3pts, when not playing good, pattern of play brigade fuming" etc. it catches up to you at end, what a surprise but we didnt watch that movie first time.

Ronaldo couldnt carry them all today.

Honest to god, how have we managed nearly 50 shots on goal in the last 2 games and not come anywhere close to scoring a goal?

Let's not strengthen midfield, 36yo Ronaldo will magically score goals instead, yay!

I love that we missed penalty at the end, we don't deserve anything from that shambolic performance.

Are we at the stage of the season already where "supporters" are willing the team to lose just so they can get in some random "world class" manager?

feck me. We played like shite but maybe you should go support someone else.

there was a point towards the end, where it was 3 vs 3 on our right side near the penalty area, and they just seemed so confident knocking it about, playing little passes to each other, waiting to fashion an opening, whilst our lot just seemed to be in panic mode, diving in, leaving gaps everywhere, summed it up for me, complete lack of cohesion / players playing without enough confidence in their roles / team's tactics. thats got to be on the manager and his staff.

Also - Not that we would have scored, but the added time was nowhere near reality. Martinez milked the feck out of the clock every time he had the ball. Along with stoppages for Targett, Maguire and Ramsey, the goal, 5 subs. I swear referees just guess added time, and don't actually keep a count of just how much time is lost.

Dean in general was unusual today. Not necessarily bad, but incredibly lenient, on fouls in particular for both sides, but also how much time wasting he was willing to put up with.

Why didn’t Ronaldo take the penalty?

I’ve said it before, too may ego’s in the team.

Does anyone know: who do the Courteeners support? I mean I could understand moving it to 12.30 for an Oasis reunion concert and Oasis would just love to throw a spanner into Oles season, but the Courteeners!!!? (These early kick-offs often bring shock results.)

Ole is a nice guy who was just lucky. When you remove sentiments and emotions, he is tactically not a good manager. That is the truth. Good man manager, but not a good tactician. And you need that at this level.

Abysmal

Everyone's to blame for this one.

Attackers and creative players not good enough, Ronaldo was hugely let down

Midfielders non existent

Defenders except Varane have a weekly brain fart each

De Gea was ok.

Ole poor in tactics, only thing I can say is he had two injuries that forced him to make subs but it was still poor.

Questions need to be asked of this team. Get a centre mid in January.
He was shit as well today, none of them were at it.

Actually two things are true at once.

Solskjaer isn't going to win the league.

However, neither are a few of these players and they're certainly not as good as some people like to think they are.
Ole will keep United knocking on the top 3 spots, but I just don't believe he has it in his locker to be diverse enough tactically to win us the league. That's the reality.

All those quality control warnings on the first page

Didn't see the game, and it appears I should be thankful for that!

We really are a finished club. We overspend on every player and are still on a downward trajectory. This is so depressing to even think about. Easiest opening fixture in years and we have no advantage to show for it. Sack Ole now!!!

When Villas mediocre manager is better then ours...
He's not mediocre really. He gets his teams playing despite losing his talisman in Jack Grealish. He coaches and knows how to coach. That is an advantage. It isn't Villa who have an mediocre manager.

How many of those shots were hit and hope from distance? Mason alone was shooting on site at every opportunity.

Nothing to do with the coaching. Not Ole's fault two defenders got injured. Not Ole's fault Bruno missed a pen. Not Ole's fault they got a corner wrongly for their goal.

Just making sure I get the excuses in early. Any others?
This will be his excuse why we lost. He will also point to the wayward amount of shots we had.

All the ole out comments are reported. Sad how delusional fans are to a goal in 1999 and don't see him as a fraud.

I think today is the turning point for me.

We need a new manager
Same, I've been happy to give him time as there has been progress in terms of our position in the league and cups but now at this stage we have such a talented crop of players and it's a big risk to stick with Ole when we could go with someone proven to win things. Do we want to waste a season on hope again or should we go with someone like Zidane and actually win something?

Similar to Chelsea last season when they had Lampard, they went ruthless and got Tuchel in, won the CL now looking healthy to win more and you can actually see they play football too.

Here's the thing. This is pretty much our usual performance level. On another day, one of the shots go in or Greenwood takes a chance or one of those not-quite-perfect passes fall perfectly into someone's path.

But that's the issue. That way, way too many of our games are decided by the finest of margins. We cannot consistently impose ourselves on opponents so it's almost always a scrappy battle if we can't run riot on the break.

Villa deserved the win, overall. Not sure why Bruno didn't take the penalty in his usual way.
This is true, I would agree with that. People going on about how this is the worst we've played in a long time, etc. But, it's really not. We had no control of the match, but we rarely do. The opposition had a few good opportunities, which they tend to do. We had moments of looking really good, which then quickly changed to us looking an utter shambles. Again, as is the case most of the time.

The difference is, one of our excellent players didn't poke one of their chances away to paper over the cracks. That's the real difference today.

We were bad but it’s a relatively good time to have such a listless performance. Still early into the season. We’ll learn from this and we’ll get better for sure. Cavani coming back. Sancho still to show his real ability. Rashford coming back soon too.

Shoot me for being positive.

We got what we deserved. Hopefully Ronaldo rebels soon and we get some manager who doesn't completely suck.

Otherwise, it is yet another wasted season.
It's mad that it has come to this but it is true.

In Ronaldo, Bruno and Varane we have players who simply will not accept piss poor performances, unlike our nice guy manager.

beacuse many of them have come at the end of an attack which has broken down because were are so off the cuff and with no real plan, so the margins are so tight, and it results in someone hitting and hoping, normally into a pile of bodies.

As much as I’m pissed off and want Ole out, you’re an idiot mate.
How the feck can a genuine fan love it when his team misses a penalty? Mental.

when did the double points later in the season rule come in?
