Newcastle United now owned by the PIF | PL receives "legally binding assurances that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia will not control NUFC" ;)

The crown prince spent 550 mil for a painting to hang in his yacht a few summers ago. Mbappe, Harland and Pogba in one summer could be had by the money from shaking his couch.

I doubt to they'd be able to attract those types of players just yet. But yeah in the future, why not.

The next manager betting market will be wild for a few days.

At the moment Eddie Howe is favourite with Graeme Jones 2nd but I think that was on the assumption of no takeover and if Ashley were to sack Bruce one day. Some big names can be had at big odds and will surely come in if this goes through.

Good time to sell those shares, we're about to become the lower United. 3 fecking oil clubs.

Newcastle will complete the stadium to 80-90k, hoover up the players, it'll be the battle of the super squads of Newcastle, City and Chelsea in a few years.

They're far cheaper and it's a City with one team. They'll probably get 75000 fans in with an expanded stadium and oil money buying top players. Newcastle is also a good City to invest in like Abu Dhabi have in Manchester.

Newcastle the city and area doesn't have much of profile outside the UK, will be interesting to see how long they'll take to change things.

They’ve gotten considerably better at human rights in the last year or so apparently.

The main issue is money, the clubs in league need it after Covid and the Saudis have mountains of it!

As with City, if they want to bring in their own sponsors FFP will mean nothing to them. Imagine they'll be splashing the cash around pretty quickly.

It turns out they were eating into the PL money. That was the only reason they weren't being approved. PL is probably more morally bankrupt than most people in prison.

Steve Bruce absolutely sweating gravy over how he can best decline his invite to the embassy.

Hardly.

Of all the current PL managers, he's easily the best suited for dealing with international intrigue - especially if it involves espionage, assassins from central or south-eastern Europe, lesbian prostitutes and Mossad (and who can doubt this so-called takeover will involve precisely that?).

I wish the Abu Dhabi people bought Newcastle instead of City.

Another death knell for football. I suppose their fans are happy to be run by Saudi. How scary is that? I would rather quit football than have my club taken over by them.

And how on earth do they pass a fit and proper owner test?

City were lucky because Manchester was/is a huge name in football. But Newcastle? They'll have to splash a lot of cash.

They will have to for sure. It depends how grand their plans are I suppose. There's no guarantee they'll do an Abu Dhabi but if they do follow their template then they'll become a major force.

  so many people losing their crap because they are scared of Newcastle!!

Bring on another oil club I say.

It'll take them ten years before they are even remotely challenging for anything.

Does Liverpool? Outside of the Beatles and a couple other bits and bobs. Could be wrong of course but Liverpool I felt was quite run down relative to Leeds or Manchester. Not sure how Newcastle compares - I've never been there to be fair.

I know Newcastle fans hate Ashley because he didn't like to spend much money. But this seens like it is just a bad move in the oppisite direction.

They are going to see piles of money being spent on mediocre players and they will still win nothing.
It's a bad move because the are about to be a sports washing project. Ashley would be by far a better choice.

The geordies couldn’t give a feck even if Hitler and Pol Pot lead a consortium to buy the club as long as they had the money to invest in it and bring them success.

Basically means Arsenal and Spurs will become permanent mid-table clubs in the future and Everton, Leicester and West Ham will never break into the top 4.

I can assure you that, thanks to a certain affordable brown ale, generations of college aged yanks have been made familiar with the concept of Newcastle

Newcastle United aren't going to sign the likes of Mbappe, Haaland and Pogba - not initially, anyway.

I could see them making a couple of signings from those soon to become free agents though. The likes of Kessie, who they were after last summer before the takeover fell through, Rudiger and Aarons I wouldn't be surprised to see there.

It is known for some of the biggest government housing projects....I mean it does have qualities that people outside of England pay attention to.

You're quite mistaken about that. The premier league reached global audiences from mid 90's to early 2000's and Newcastle has quite the presence and brand recognition among foreign fans.

In the short term it means nothing because Newcastle won't get quick wins like Chelsea did, or City to an extent. They'll need 2-3 transfer windows to even get a squad of top four quality.

But yep, many clubs are done for.

The primary thing - assuming this doesn't all go hilariously tits up again - is getting shot of Bruce. I know this offends the sensibilities of a few old timers here and I understand sentimentality about former players but he's finished at this level. The squad wouldn't need much padding to be easily safe and begin building next summer imo.

The city? Yes. But they're a footballing institution, whereas Newcastle itself is a nice but small city, how many people outside of the UK have even heard of it? Paris is a world city, Manchester is globally recognised because of United, London would be an easy sell but the likes of Leipzig and Newcastle? Middleborough splashed a lot of cash on quality players a few years back, so I guess players will find it difficult to turn down insane amounts of cash but I think it'll take a few years for them to attract star players depending on the Saudis' hunger for success. Who exactly is buying the club?

Can't wait to hear about all the players interested in the Newcastle "project" over the coming years.

They can’t spent that money. People are missing this point. The Everton owner is worth absolutely shed tons and wants to spend - he’s hampered by FFP despite inflating sponsorships. Newcastle will be no different. City happened just in time.
