Newcastle United now owned by the PIF | PL receives "legally binding assurances that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia will not control NUFC" ;)

Would be the most Newcastle thing ever for them now to get relegated.

If they find themselves adrift by January, there's a chance it could happen - even with investment.

Newcastle win CL before PSG. You heard it here first  :D
Well I hope so. I actually remember listening to Des Lyhnam against fecking Inter. I’ll come out and celebrate their wins before I’ll do the same for Leeds, City and Liverpool.

They now have a chance to be absolutely huge, in a way City never will. One club city, actual fans etc.

Of course Newcastle has nothing to do with any Muslim nation. I never said that. We're talking about the ownership, and they do. The reason they're pumping money into a premier League football team is to try and legitimise themselves on the world stage.

Bilbao does it to push out the Basque culture, which KSA is trying to do here. I guarantee they'll be flooding the prem coverage with adverts. I'm not suggesting they'd only ever sign Muslim players, just they would probably love to go for top players who are Muslim, to enhance that public perception of the Kingdom.

Edit: I did just read your original post I quoted and think I over looked the "only". Apologies.
I can see them going hard for someone like Salah maybe or Pogba, a statement signing with a bonus of being a muslim, however the poster I replied to was saying majority if not all of their signings will be muslim players, which I don't see happening.

Ignorant?
For what? Saying it's harder to be a muslim footballer?
For example, alcoholic beverages being major sponsors while alchohol is forbidden in your religion. And then you have to make a statement like Pogba had to while a bottle of Heineken was in front of him.

Not to mention that Salah was fasting before a deciding semifinal game in the CL.

How is it that i'm ignorant?

Educate me then please.
Had to?

Pretty sure that was non Alcoholic Heineken.

Who here thinks they're gonna go after all the muslim players?

That's what.... throwing money at Salah, Pogba...who else would join that?
You do realize City and PSG are also owned by Muslims right? I would love to, but haven't seen both clubs full of Muslim players.

Some very odd debates going on here - least of all those disregarding the various denominations of Islam.

Like expecting a staunchly Catholic player opting to play for Rangers due to them being a "Christian" club.

Neither Mbappe, Haaland or Pogba would go to Newcastle just yet. Club needs to build some stature first. Same happened to City - the first players they got were usually decent rejects, but that's all. Eventually they got world class players but it took years. And with FFP it will be a little harder to do the same. Eventually they'll reach the top, there's no doubt about it, but it'll take a while.

Everyone who bashed the Super League has to think twice now. As disgusting as it is, it is the only way to salvage what's left of this sport. Newcastle won't be the last club taken over by rich criminals. I just don't get why you'd be happy. Make a Super League, make it based on the American system of the draft and salary cap in which every club will be able to compete and this sport would be for the better. UEFA, FIFA, the PL, they're all to corrupt to do anything about this.
On 800K per week wages a week, you never know though??

I know what you are saying though.

They can sign Mbappe, Pogba and Lingard for ZERO in a few months.

Haaland for £75m

And that's just the start
Including signing on fees, agents fees and wages that’s probably half a billion right there

I wonder what time in the morning they announce their new manager?
Given what Bruce has said it certainly sounds like they've already lined up a replacement to come in before the next game.

This is actually great news. Bruce can do us a favour an sign Lingard, Martial, Jones this winter window. Great upgrade for Newcastle and we get rid of players hogging up space and wages.

PS I love Martial, but comes a time when a player with great potential hasn’t fulfilled it and you have to let him go knowing he might be very good elsewhere

Reminds me of how I played Championship Manager ca. 20 years ago.

I think for the Saudis, endorsing non-Salafis as model Muslims would be worse than buying a team full of actual non-Muslims.

But as an interesting thought experiment:

Benzema

Mahrez-------------------------Salah

Pogba-------Gundogan
Kante

F Mendy--Rudiger--Koulibaly--Hakimi

B Mendy
All of them openly identify themselves as practising Muslims. Tough calls on Mane, Amad, Zouma, Traore and a few others.

Just read about the Newcastle take-over (ok, read headline only), so, does this mean Newcastle will be the new Man City & do what KK's "entertainers" (Shears & co) couldn't do in the mid 90s & actually win the PL in the near future or what?

Oh I'm not saying they're trying to promote Islam, I'm saying they'd be using their association with well known Muslims in the sporting world, to advance the view in the wider world of the Saudi Kingdom.
That was what I was telling. As long as they control Mecca, they already have all kind of celebrity Muslims going there and taking pics and posting on insta. They have so much publicity. It is only in the non Islamic world, that they need good PR, again debatable because pretty much all countries do business with the Saudis without inhibition.

Neutrals did the same for City before the novelty wore off. Sunderland fans chatted shit on that final day and now they will spend the rest of their lives getting banged by what comes around.

It must be exciting to be a toon fan right now. It must be so good. Having that regime kicking every ball though… it’s not for me. Vilifying Hatice Cengiz, it’s no for me.

This won’t go as smoothly as City or Chelsea.

1. Almost all premier league owners are billionaires. A lot have over 2-3 billion, and most bought their clubs as toys for their pleasure. So unless the Newcastle owners are prepared to buy players for twice their value, there isn’t a need for owners to just sell their best players to them. This isn’t City in 2008, when the smaller sides had to sell to balance their books.

2. They aren’t based in a major city that’ll appeal to a bunch of rich young footballers.

3. Who are they going to attract? We’ve had clubs such as Fulham come up and spend 100m in a transfer window, only to get relegated. Unless they have a proper system in place and climb up into European football, no major player is going there. They can offer 800k a week but that’s what clubs such as Madrid, Barca and PSG have been doing for the past decade.

Fully expect they will sign Haaland and Mbappe next summer with 3 times the fee and salary offer, and go on to rule the football world.

Hopefully it will galvanise the fans to feck off north east as well.
So the fans need to leave if they don't like the owners? Or the fans who'd want owners who actively benefit the club and don't just use it to fund themselves need to leave?

Why would this takeover galvanise United fans? That is what the tweet is suggesting.

Clubs being bought over by states… feck that.. it’s for eternity that. These clubs are theirs now. Give me some pigmy consortium that only cuts people up as a very last resort. Not for stealing a fecking biscuit.
