To be honest he never has that much to do.For someone who's supposedly not all that he don't half like keeping clean sheets!

2 in 1 Ratio, gotta be some record! His 56th clean sheet in 25 games I think.
I think I've seen him make about 4 saves in his Chelsea career so far.
It gets overlooked but personally I've been hugely impressed with his passing quality and composure on the ball - he definitely deserves some credit for our general comfort in playing out from the back.
He is rarely called into action these days. That's true. He commands the area well though. Gobbles up most crosses. But yeah, we have probably conceded maybe 3 actual chances in 11 games under Tuchel.
100%. I'm usually a little nervous when we're messing about trying to pass through an aggressive high press, but I have been strangely calm watching Mendy pass through 3 players etc.It gets overlooked but personally I've been hugely impressed with his passing quality and composure on the ball - he definitely deserves some credit for our general comfort in playing out from the back.
He's also very good at the flat diagonal ball out to the wing back in space as well. Generally there's often a large margin of error for that pass but he tends to keep it low and drives it so as to give the recipient time to receive and turn in space before the opposition can recover. Particularly when the ball is passed back from our left flank, Mendy will let it run across him and drive it with the side of his foot out to Reece or CHO. It's a really effective switch of play that often can take out 3-4 opposition defenders in a single go.100%. And most of the games he conceded in were in the December/January meltdown which makes it all the more impressive. Lampard pre meltdown and Tuchel he's only conceded 6.19 clean sheets in 31 games now for the big man.
Kepa deserves another chanceAnd most of the games he conceded in were in the December/January meltdown which makes it all the more impressive. Lampard pre meltdown and Tuchel he's only conceded 6.
Although I'm sure we'll be told he's not all that next time he concedes.
It must be because he's rose to the top late and did it the unfashionable way, I genuinely can't think of one other reason.Got to love the Redcafe at times, some on here were saying he's not much better than Kepa. Great work by Cech for getting this guy.
I don't understand the hatred people have for Christophe Lollichon. It is reported that Christophe Lollichon first scouted Mendy when he was still at Reims, yet people praise Cech for getting him.Got to love the Redcafe at times, some on here were saying he's not much better than Kepa. I know, I just saw that on twitter. Incredible story. This's guys journey is ridiculous. From being released and claiming unemployment benefit in 2014 to keeping a clean sheet in the Champions League final today.
I don't know why but I really value aerial dominance in a GK. Sure, great shot-stopping is also nice to watch but I just love goalies who command their area.Still can’t distinguish how good he is from how good the Chelsea defence is, but there’s just no fuss to his game. Strolls about the game plucking balls out of the air with ease.
He's been superb from the moment he walked the doors. I'd never heard of him before we signed him. Crazy to think where he was a few years ago in his personal life and how far he's come. He deserves all the plaudits and recognition.
He's falling victim the same way Keylor Navas did (even by some of our own fans). He's not a big enough name and not from a big enough country so he has to do extra (like having a game as insane as yesterday) to get the plaudits he deserves. He's been superb from the moment he walked the doors. He is from France and I don't know if his national team plays that much of a role in it, it doesn't seem to be an issue for Mané or Koulibaly not so long ago. The fact that he is a late bloomer and was only really talked about in France is probably more important. He's falling victim the same way Keylor Navas did (even by some of our own fans). As recently as last month I came across a fellow supporter who thinks Kepa will win his place back by the end of the season, can't get my head around how anyone could come to that conclusion.
Someone like Mane is a bad comparison to a keeper in this regard. It is much easier for attackers to build a hype around them by just scoring some crucial wonder goals. For keepers it is much more difficult as every mistake they make appears in a highlight reel of a match, misplaced passes and wasted chances of attackers far less.He is from France and I don't know if his national team plays that much of a role in it, it doesn't seem to be an issue for Mané or Koulibaly not so long ago. It's not a bad comparison, the point was that his national team isn't the reason behind the lack of hype. I say that him being a late bloomer and not really talked outside of France is a more important reason and you added that his position limits the opportunity to be hyped which is true but is also limited by the fact that he is a late bloomer.Someone like Mane is a bad comparison to a keeper in this regard. Keepers only really become hyped when they win crucial games on their own. Mendy simply has not been in that position for Chelsea so far (nothing against Brentford, but it is only a PL game, not a CL semifinal or something on that stage), mostly because of how good Chelsea's defence plays most of the time.
He most definitely has won us games. We might be excellent in defense but the back six all play their part, keeper included. We give a few chances away per match but Mendy bails us out a lot. Just look at the above stat, 96% save ratio from 26 shots. A lot of them are not easy saves either, the man phenomenal.Keepers only really become hyped when they win crucial games on their own. It’s close but I’d say he is a slightly better shot stopper than cech. However pre-injury cech is the better overall keeper. The only real weakness cech had was playing with his feet, which really isn’t a necessity. After his injury he had a blind spot in his eye which meant crosses from certain heights eluded him and he panicked/flapped a little but no big deal. Still great clean sheet record (pre Arsenal). Is He looking better than Courtouis? He was good but sometimes not consistent as Cech for example.
Mendy is probably the best rounded of the 3. He's the best with his feet by some distance, he's a good if not spectacular shot-stopper (personally I think he'll regress a bit; 96% save ratio is unsustainable), and he's very good at claiming crosses and commanding his area. Rubbish at penalties though. Is He looking better than Courtouis? He was good but sometimes not consistent as Cech for example.
