I know many on here will disagree, and I want them both to do well, although from what I've seen of Sancho (including for England), there's nothing special there at all. The same with VDB - both just very average players - in this league (key point, maybe).

I also remember similar discussions for Martial, and the support he had against very average performances over many seasons, and considering we've won almost nothing for 7/8 years, we stuck with mediocrity.

We are now doing the same with Fred, Mctominay, etc. (and some others). Bang average team players that we consistently stick with (....it could be said that we're doing the same with our latest manager).

It needs to change, or we'll be having the exact same conversations in another 8 years.
He's definitely not average. Nor is van de Beek but Sancho is still levels ahead of him in terms of talent.

Thing is, this is foreseeable and should make clear why it is a gamble to join United as a young player. You threw all your plans over board at the prospect of signing Cristiano and only after that realized that the need to build the team around him to get the best of a world class player would eliminate the positions of your three brightest talents (Greenwood, Rashford, Sancho). But while Sancho can't even play as one of the two strikers, Greenwood and Rashford at least can play that position as well.

Very curious as to how this plays out. I love the Ronaldo back at United and firing on all cylinders story but the perspective for Sancho looks rather dull if Solskjaer actually manages to save his job.

This boy has a good future here. No point playing him ahead of the established guys just now, they are in form and fit. He will get plenty of chances. I said the same about VDB and I was totally wrong of course. I think Sancho is a whole class above and it’s just a matter of time before he gets a few starts.

Poor lads career is being flushed down the toilet. Even if his stats are worrying it's up to the coaching staff to integrate a talented winger you've forked out £100m for best you can and if anything they've moved further away from even attempting to.

I said it at the start of the season, we have too many attacking players. In a winger sysyem Cavani barely got a game because Ronaldo is going to be the starting #9 90% percent of the time. In a two strikers system Sancho and Pogba lose game time. You can't fit Rashford Greenwood Cavani Ronaldo Bruno Sancho and Pogba in the same team. We also still have Martial and Lingard on our hands for some reason. This squad is massively over stacked up front and it's hurting us. You can't leave 4 top class attacking players on the bench and make them happy sbout it.

He's been rightfully dropped after not providing a single goal or assist in eleven appearances. He'll get plenty of opportunities off the bench to win his place back over the season. A bit of adversity might be good for him in the long term.

He won't be going anywhere anyway, if no one else wanted him for two consecutive summers I doubt anyone would now he's on over £300k a week.

We are only ten games into his debut season. He’s played a few times anyway and the team has been a bit unsettled by poor form and injuries in other positions. I am now reading comments in this thread saying, in October, that his career is over and he was waste of £100m.

This is basically this forum right now. Hyperbole is out of control.

Everything is either one extreme or the other. He's either being treated unfairly or flop of the century. There's no in-between anymore with some fans.

Also seems to be a lot of 'fans' on here who seem to put players before the club. I just don't get it.

If we went on to turn our season around dramatically and end up being successful, under Ole or even somebody else, but Sancho is a bit part player I personally wouldn't give two craps. I support the club.

You wonder if we have one of these analysts at OT, who just looked at the goals scored and assists, without looking what system Dortmund play, the players in that system and if we have similar players to get the best out of him. If he would actually fit at OT. Why has Ole wasted all this money on him and Donny if he cannot actually use them. Which screams of someone who doesn't really know how he wants us to play.

He will never shine under Ole, whether its 352 or 4231, he will find it very hard to adapt his game here anyway, because of:

- High tempo/high pressing game in PL
- Lack of structure and build up play from Ole team
- No place for wing forward playmaker in 352, except maybe to replace Bruno

The only way he may revive his career here, is to wait for new manager to come and bring the best out of him.

New poster and serious question. Why is everyone always scapegoating Ronaldo. Literally the only player worth a damn this season and anytime there is a bad performance, they blame his signing.

To be fair, whatever Cavani's age, he's one of the most aggressive, hardworking players we've had - Rooney and Tevez levels. Amazing.

Regarding Sancho, I believe it was Gary who said he was in the top 10 forwards in the league for defensive stats, not something to turn one's nose at. He's the only one of our forwards in that list by the way (I'm sure Cavani would've been had he been playing more).
I did hear him say that. I'd be interested to see those stats as they don't sound right, although I'd be happy to be proven wrong.

I see this said a lot on here, I heard from Mark Ogden the other day on a podcast that Ole had no say in buying VdB and the club made the decision for him.

That is a problem. You presume he had some say, if he did not know where he fitted in he could have said no. The amount he uses him he may as well have said no.

So basically we saved money by waiting, but wasted money at the same time.
We should have brought in Sancho last season. 30m more, of course, but we likely would have made a deeper run in the CL and be much better situated now. Greenwood would have developed further into the CF he naturally is. No one could have seen Ronaldo coming this summer, but with Ronaldo and Cavani at CF Greenwood’s development at CF is now delayed another season. That might be ok if we were on the cusp of lifting the PL and CL trophies but that’s just not the case unless we pull the trigger on Ole, another decision that seems to hinge on penny wisdom but pound foolishness by the board.

Agree, I've been very surprised that he hasn't even given the guy a fair go in spite of how he ended up at United.

Youre in the Jadon Sancho player performance thread. Go to the Christiano Ronaldo one.

Devils advocate, we did try to bring in a new right back this summer and were unsuccessful. I suspect that was about Sancho. At Dortmund Sancho was typically paired with very good attacking full backs like Hakimi on the righ tand Guerreiro on the left. Hopefully we try again in the next window. On a side note Sancho is a totally different level of talent to van de Beek who IMO was never a shoo-in to succeed here. I'd have said a more apt comparison would be the failure to properly tactically integrate Pogba into the team.

Agree. We did try to get Trippier and can see why. Pogba plays with a different level of midfielder for France who allow him to do his thing. Our sitters are just not good enough and he is expected to defend as well, which isn't his thing and takes something away from his game. We seem to only half fix a team, which if the manager gets Top 4 the owners are in no rush to put things right.

Spend two years trying to get him to only sit him on the bench… honestly the guys a huge talent and it’s sad to see him not get a chance

Not sure why everyone thinks we’re ruining his career? VDB I can understand but not Sancho.

Hes a 21 year old still learning everyday coming from a weaker league, he’s seen plenty of minutes and starts this season and will continue to do so.

I can see him easily slotting into this back 3 system if we play a 3-4-3. I reckon we’ll play this against weaker teams or when Cavani/Ronaldo needs a rest. Playing as inside forwards will probably be the best option for our 3 young forward as none of them particularly like to track back and this gives them all less responsibility.
This season will be a bedding in one for him and nest year once Cavani, VDB, Martial (?), Lingard (?) are gone he’ll be starting week in week out.

Amazing that he's being written off already. He's been fairly underwhelming so far but not everyone can be Bruno.

I still do understand why we signed Sancho. Who will he replace? He played on the right for Dortmund and he plays all over the place for us buy mainly on the left which is Rashford’s position currently. Maybe they are looking at Greenwood in the middle, Sancho on the right and Rashford on the left when Cavani and Ronaldo pack it in. The lad just hasn’t been given a chance to show what he can do yet.

I actually do not understand this logic by fans.

1. When we signed Sancho, it was not envisaged that we will sign Ronaldo meaning having Cavani / Greenwood up top. - See games at the start before Ronaldo signed.
2. We don't have a RW so he was signed for the wing.
3. Greenwood was getting goal output on the right, so he was undroppable at the time.
4. In the games Sancho got, he produced 0 G 0 Assists

Also, he hasn't played all over, he has played LW and RW which is exactly what he did at Dortmund.

Last season he played 38 games
15 LW
14 RW
7 AM
2 CF

Why is he saying if Sancho is not careful ? Donny has not done anything wrong and has still been treated like dirt. There is nothing Sancho can do to prevent the same treatment

There is, he could start with putting in a performance that warrants dropping one of the other forwards.

Kinda has to be on the pitch to do that
Apparently he's had 300 minutes of prem football this year, alternatively Rashford has had 100 and can you honestly say you would start Sancho over him? Its on him to take the chance when it arrives and that might come in the form of a sub appearance just like it is for Marcus too.

Ole needs to be sacked for this alone. It's amazing what the board are prepared to put up with from him.

Ole asks for and gets the most expensive winger in Europe and then decides to play a formation with no wingers, and hardly ever used him before that either.
We've played that formation once.... even if I wasn't a betting man I would put my house on the line come the end of the season we'll have played with wingers more than a 5 atb too.

Not aimed at you but to all the people saying we've got to play him who do we drop him for?

Then why did sign him? After two years of wanting him.
I would personally have him nailed on the right wing. Rashford on the left. Greenwood rotating as striker with Ronaldo.

If three months of being in and out of the first team flushes your career down the toilet then your career is a little fragile to begin with. Of course that’s not true and you’re just being a massive drama queen.

We must've scouted the shit out of him but honestly Ole or no Ole, he just doesn't fit into how we play right now, especially with Ronaldo upfront. He's young and clearly a good player so I am not worried long term, but in the short term it doesn't seem like he is the player we needed.

Do you folks think Sancho can play as an attacking Wingback in a 3-5-2? On the right hand side.

We could look at AWB as the third CB and he could take AWB’s spot on the right flank.

If we are to stick to 3-5-2, then I can’t see him playing any other position. He’s not going to feature in the front 2. We have Rashford / Greenwood for when Cavani/Ronaldo need to be rested.

But he would need to be coached to track back and defend quite consistently. Not sure if he’s up to it.

He can’t play wingback.

If there was more evidence at all needed that Ole has no clue what he’s doing, at all, its Sancho. Chases him for two years. Finally gets him, but doesn’t have the courage to constantly play him. Then finally lands on a formation that has no space for him.

Ole is an absolute mess, and Sancho is just collateral damage.
