The luck this manager has is unbelievable. If it wasn't for Ronaldos 3 late goals we'd have 2 points and would have been knocked out tonight. Shockingly bad performance again and I fear for us Saturday.
I dont even think we would have 2 points without him tbh

Come away from Villarreal with zero points and we are screwed arent we ? Even if we beat young boys in last game it's out of our hands?
Nah. Villarreal and Atalanta will play last game, meaning we have to beat YB to get to 10 points.

Edit. We might be struggling if Villarreal beat Atalanta.

If we lose that game and Atlanta win against YB it would be Villarreal on ten points and Atalanta on eight. If we beat YB last game we would be on ten. It would depend what happens in the other game.

Thank god for Ronaldo. Shocking to see how long we wait with the subs when we're chasing the vital 2-2 that keeps us in the competition. Our midfield of Matic and McT for that long in 2nd half for example, why wait til theres 7 min left of the match to take more risks? Would be enough with Mct then put on Vdb/Lingard whos attacking players. At moments like that we have to take more risks, even though it worked out today with our saviour Ronaldo on fire.

Ronaldo, Bailey, Bruno, AWB and to a lesser degree Scott were very good tonight. Varane now injured. Maguire going through a really terrible time. Man City coming on Saturday. Start with Bailey & Jones at CB?

I don’t expect us to win every game, but I want to see some sort of cohesion and tactical plan, and if it’s going badly, some improvement. I’m seeing none of this. It’s abysmal again.

The players have no real idea of their jobs in the team, which is a disaster when we’re up against a team whose players do know what they’re supposed to be doing.

We drew because of two isolated moments of genius and utterly in spite of the tactics.

That was a poor performance. Again tactically all over the place. Maguire yet again another poor performance. Pogba kept him company.

Is anybody else feeling a bit awkward that Ronaldo plays for us? Its kind of embarrassing. He's clearly capable of dragging a half decent team far in a CL in this form. And we can't even offer him that

Not the worst result but not the one we needed either. If it wasn't for Ronaldo we'd have ended up with absolutely nothing there. Big performance from him tonight. Bailly also impressive, especially considering his lack of football recently.

Another shit performance, another Ronaldo bail out to salvage mediocrity. I'm so tired of this, we have the players to be so much more.

Please replace Ole.

Ole's job is ultimately going to be saved every time by nights like tonight and at the weekend vs Spurs. Just when we are down and out, we pull something out of nothing buying more time. It will eventually catch up. I think if we lose to City, the international break will see Ole gone.
It's frustrating because we should be cruising through some of these lesser teams. Instead, our team of Galacticos struggle to beat these types of teams.
Not a single player from Atalanta would get into our first XI, yet they draw against us, only because of a Ronaldo special.
While Ole is in charge, this will be the norm - struggling to beat lesser teams, even though player for player, we have one of the best squads in the World.

Papering over the cracks, how can a team with so much talent play so bad.
The manager must take a lot of the blame. maguire looks like he is playing with mud in is boots.
I was looking at the screen at about the 80th minute with (checking) Cavani, McTominay, Bruno, Matic, Bailly, McGuire (who never is not there), Shaw, AWB, Ronaldo, Greenwood, DDG. All the outfield players were packed around the Atalanta 18 yard box and not moving. Excuse me -- McTominay sauntered by at one point like he was going for a lemonade. It was unreal. All these attacking players, all this speed and they were standing still looking at each other.

It's like there are 5-6 of the 1st team who've forgotten how to play the game. Or they never knew.

Bailly was great. Ronaldo was great.

Peter Schmeichel said in the post game that Ronaldo doesn't do anything but score. Makes me wonder what he thinks of the others in the midfield and forward line.

I understand but often when the coach isn't good enough the players look clueless and make basic errors.

The same players can then look like world beaters under an elite coach.
I don't know how much coaching has to do with De Gea's howler, or Pogba's constant losing the ball in dangerous positions. Basic basic basic bread and butter stuff. I suppose Ole's culpability here lies in choosing Pogba to play CM in the first place. It's times like this you realise we don't have much choice.

Bailly has been left out in the cold by Ole and, if rumours are to be believed, quite vocal in challenging him. Yet he left more on the pitch than almost anyone else.

Again, not excusing Ole. He is absolutely part of the problem. But I do worry about how much we are overrating some of these players.

So we need to win both remaining games?

What would be different had we lost?

I just think with the players we have we can be so much better. I dont think Ole is getting the best out of the players we have.

I didn’t realize how good and clinical has become Ronaldo before he came back here, as I watch him every game now obviously.

He scores from almost every half chance he has. He is amazing. He is probably the best finisher actually and with no doubt one or the best ever.

He is also better and better in the game play and the connection with others.

I would say he is the best 9 in the world right now.

The Spanish language channel I’ve been watching just played an angle that makes the second Atalanta goal look clearly offside.

Interesting, as it looked clearly onside at the time.

Ronaldo, honestly, what a player. Single handedly keeping us in the Champions League at the very least.

Shocking performance once again. This isn't sustainable in the slightest and it's getting hard to continue to back Ole. But we're so lucky he came back.

so bored of this.

It goes beyond frustration and we never learn.

What will it be eh? Solskjaer and his 'tactics', Pogba and his lackadaisical passing, McFred or whatever, donkey boy Maguire stinking up the place and affecting everyone around him with his complete ineptitude and lack of any athleticism OR LEADERSHIP WHATSOEVER. Any of the above maybe.

Ronaldo saves us again it's embarrassing.

Ole May thrive on this tumescent rubbish but I don't. Lucky to get a draw.

I'll keep repeating it: De Gea is done, a liability rather than a safeguard.

Not a good game, we still do not play with a concept, it's only hoping for a individual skill from one of the forwards.

Ronny the goat, Bruno and McT solid. Pogba, Rashford, Maguire terrible. Donny did well in the few minutes he got, maybe some more game time?

I've been out, is it worth watching the full game back? I've only seen the goals. Am I better watching paint dry or someone repeatedly punch themselves in the bollocks?

What do you mean trashed? They hardly cut us open or anything. Their first goal was Ddg error. The ball was straight at him.

I think you don't know the meaning of the word individual brilliance if you saw our first goal.
Spot on.

The term individual brilliance is a buzzword among prejudiced supporters with an agenda.

So much for the organised team performance against Spurs, that was horrible to watch, no shape, no ideas, no clue. CR7 saves the day again.

In Summary :-

De Gea takes far too long with his distribution, every time he could throw it out quickly, he takes far too long and then the opposition are back in shape. Suspect handling for their 1st goal.

Wan Bissaka had a decent enough performance but still lacking in final third to be playing as a wing back.

Shaw has gone right off the boil this season, looks suspect in his positioning and general defending ain't great.

Maguire also looks really poor this season, and definitely has a mistake in him every game at the moment

Bailly made some vital interceptions, but you should also look at the fact he goes walkabouts for their 2nd goal, the guy make great tackles but has proven over the years not to be reliable, and regularly has a lapse in concentration moment.

Gutted Varane is injured again, hoping its not another Schweinsteiger situation where Bayern sold him at the right time, he is a class act but if he cant stay fit then we cant rely on him.

McTominay was playing right on the edge today, surprised Ole didnt substitute him, instead deciding to take off Pogba could have backfired on him.

Pogba really off the pace today, and made bad decisions in possession that could have cost us. Looks like a man with his head out of the door.

Rashford was really poor, cant hold the ball up, lacks ideas, kick and rush at times again. Give him Sheringham's football brain and he would be unstoppable, unfortunately, I made peace with the fact he never will be.

Bruno, lovely back heel for Ronaldo's 1st goal. Surprised he got subbed off with 5 minutes to go. We still desperately rely on his football intelligence to knit things together.

CR7 - Wow at 36 it was a gamble, but the guy is phenomenal..

Greenwood did okay when he came on, would like to see him be a little more direct from that right hand side rather than cutting back on his left all the time.

Cavani, Matic, DVB & Sancho all looked lively for the short time they had.

Sorry but City will beat us at the weekend with a performance like that, and with Varane likely out then it could get messy...
