A video like this on Ole's tactics will be hilarious (once he's sacked, it'd be sad now)
Does Ole even have tactics? I generally can't see what we're doing except sometimes we hoof if forward and expect magic or something.

For example he brought Hannover to the Bundesliga, just two years after promotion to the second league. So as hard as it is to admit that, this fits the "promotion with shite teams" category. Well, not really, just a shite club, he broke records for most points and goals scored in that promotion season, was a great team we had in those days
Oof, no insult intended

Yeah there's some. We don't hoof balls. It just looks like that because Maguire and De Gea get pressed into doing it. We always try to play out the back (with players that aren't good at it), and we always build up through the fullbacks for some reason. Then we always attack through the left with Rashy/Shaw/Bruno/Pogba standing on top of each other, unless our players are forced into playing into AWB, in which case he gives the ball to the opposition with a "cross".

If he was appointed caretaker with a view to moving upstairs as DOF at the end of the season, would he get to appoint the manager who would succeed him?

Not that we would ever dream of appointing him in any capacity of course.

100% yes. Loved him at Hoffenheim and even that mad season at Schalke when he beat Inter 6-2 at the Guiseppe Meazza.

He'll bring entertaining, attack football that would fit our team. We may not win the league but certainly will be in contention for the top 4.

Would definitely take Rangnick as an interim till the end of the season; this United team lacks direction and tactical rigor and a sense of absolutism — and given his pedigree as a disciplinarian and pressing innovator, he could be just what the doctor ordered at a crucial juncture in the ongoing campaign (unless the players adamantly refuse to buy in from the get go). That being said, I am not completely sold on him as a medium term managerial appointment or a potential Director of Football beyond the summer if we intend on pursuing ten Hag.

Rangnick has his own persuasions (which most recently worked wonders for the Red Bull teams of course) and is a bit of an uncompromising so-and-so (means that he can immolate at any given time), and having him as the de jure commissioner of footballing affairs when we haven't painstakingly evaluated his compatibility with a leading prospect like ten Hag wouldn't be the most commonsensical maneuver. Not saying that they would be in out-and-out disharmony as a pairing, but the individual paths that lead to and follow them might be just principally divergent...

  • Appoint Rangnick as the caretaker ➜ quickly move him to the Director of Football position ➜ let him choose a like-minded Head Coach to foster continuity.
  • Appoint ten Hag as the Head Coach ➜ double dip for van der Sar as the Chief Executive Officer ➜ let the latter appoint the Director of Football if need be.

Ralf Rangnick want control, control he would not get under the Glazers. So yes, he would be the perfect man (for limited time) to bring this club into modern football, but he would be the Glazers nightmare.
Yeah, he turned Chelsea down before they went for Tuchel for that reason. Basically all of the footballing structure would be expected to report into Rangnick.

Two of the reasons it fell through with AC Milan was that he wanted full control and sack Maldini from his rile and he wanted full gegenpressing so it was rumored that Zlatan had to go if Ragnick joined.

When Pioli started getting the results, Ragnick was not interesting anymore.

I doubt the Glazers wants someone completely running the show and with a gamestyle that would get rid of Pogba, Ronaldo, Greenwood and Martial in a heartbeat.

You really think the Glazers are gonna replace their little stooge, little Woodward aka Arnold for Edwin? No chance.

Know nothing about him but yeah definitely
Pretty much where I stand too

Know next to nothing myself, but someone here described him as the granddaddy of hipster managers so that works for me. Anything to get off this Ole at the wheel ride.

I'm undecided on appointing Rangnick. It's not that I doubt his qualities.as a coach, but rather I doubt the competence of the Glazers and our Executive board. If we bring him in we need the appointment after to also have a similar philosophy.

Rangnick is an ideologue who adamantly believes in the forward press. But I don't trust the BoM to not go for a completely different sort of coach for the next appointment. But if we do decide to go all in on pressing coaches we'd reap many benefits.

United is so far behind other clubs when it comes to modern tactics and patterns of play that it makes sense to have one of the innovators on the forward press come in and drill the squad relentlessly on it. They'll be whipped into shape for the permanent manager to then take over.

It was probably the easiest game we've ever player in a semi final. We absolutely destroyed them with Neuer pulling off spectacular saves. I didn't know Rangnick was their head coach at the time until I just checked.

Love the United fans arrogance that we think we'll just get him to come in for a few months, leave his current secure job, with no guarantee beyond this season.

To be fair it looks like he's the one asking his media buddies to let everyone know he wants the job. If he thinks he deserves a 4 year contract offer then I'm afraid he's the arrogant one.

Would be interesting to see if Ralph would stay for the project. Maybe appoint Marsch as the long-term HC.

This fecking guy. Always linking himself with the biggest job, noone is actually interested. Milan, Arsenal, Germany NT, Tottenham, now Man United. He's always claiming to be in the running, begging to be hired. Not even Schalke and Frankfurt wanted to put up with his constant leaking of alleged negotiations. Pathetic, cringey, delusional, that's Rangnick for you.

If I were in charge of the hire, I’d be looking for an experienced and wise interim manager who would not only be capable of doing a firefighting job to the end of the season, but would also be able to give me an objective view of the strengths and weaknesses of the playing and back room staff, with some pointers as to what sort of recruitment needed to be done, including some managerial suggestions. If they thought Martial was a totally lost cause or giving Pogba a new contract would bequeath unnecessary problems on the new manager, I’d expect them to advise me accordingly.

Rangnick sounds like one of the few people who would be capable of this, and wouldn’t simply suggest himself for the permanent role.

Why's his rep so shit in Germany? Is it because he's affiliated with Leipzig or is it him in general?

If we offer him boardroom job post this season then maybe he will be interested. Its a big if and most probably wont happen.

His reputation isn't shit on the whole. The work he's done is recognized - as a club-builder mainly, as his managing (coaching) career has been only patchy, stop-start.
But his personality is obnoxious and his constant publicly putting himself in connection with all these big international jobs has been utterly embarrassing.
