This is what it's about with United. Class.

The caf can say what it wants, he gave us optimism and confidence previous regimes took away. Always a legend.
This aspect of the Ole tenure is his lasting legacy. Wish he could have stayed as some type of director.

Our online fanbase is genuinely pathetic, as evidenced by some of the posts in this thread. Undeserving of success.
I wish you a speedy promotion here. Absolutely bang on, many here deserve to enjoy sweet feck all success from the club, perhaps karma keeps us where we are especially for them.

Ignore his words, and just watch his body language...

His arm gestures are basically indicating to the interviewer/camera people/the production, to actually end the interview.

Quite shameful of Utd to put him through that. A worded statement from Ole would have been much better for all involved.
what? Stop analysing mate. He wanted to say some words before he leaves. That’s appropriate for a legend like him. Fair play to him.

The guy has gone from baby-faced assassin to the oldest, white haired, wrinkly bag of skin in the space of 3 years trying to haul this club forward. Have a little respect you cretins.

It was Ole's choice to speak, not the clubs.

Transcript: "Ole, this is a sad day for a lot of people who admire you, but you’ve chosen to speak…"
He certainly does look like he aged! He gave it his all, but the inexperience stopped him finally.

I genuinely don’t get why you follow United if you don’t have an emotional connection with the club. It baffles me.
Exactly, I don’t get how you could support United and not feel bad for Ole today. It’s one thing to want him gone, I thought he should have been sacked, doesn’t mean it gives me any pleasure to see him go though.
Over the past couple of years people have turned him into a villain in their heads because they wanted someone else, it’s ridiculous.

Ole was a good person. That's the highest compliment one can pay anyone else, one of the highest achievements one can strive for in one's life.

I may not have thought much of him as a manager-coach, but he was and will always be a legend of the club and a genuinely good person.

I'd expect United fans to watch that interview and feel sympathy for a legend who is clearly broken up by failing to achieve enough.

The fact that some of you, having got what you wanted for so long, are still so mean-spirited makes you look like a seriously toxic bunch.
Well said. Some on here really showing themselves up today.

Fair play to him for doing that interview, very classy from Ole. I’ll be the first to admit I’ve been pretty harsh on him the last month or so and probably overstepped the mark on a few occasions but that was purely down to my anger and frustration seeing Utd performing so poorly but still not really an excuse for the personal digs so apologies. You can tell he genuinely loves the club and gave it his absolute all but it just wasn’t enough, he’s left a much stronger squad than what he inherited and also made us fans believe again, he’ll always be a legend for what he’s done for this club and no one can take that away from him. So farewell Ole.

Ah lads that's really upsetting to watch. The man genuinely cares and gave it is all. No shame in that not being good enough. No idea why this interview exists but if it was his idea then fair enough, still must have been very tough to do.

I maybe should have worded it better, such as "Just focus on his body language"

It has since been pointed out to me that it was his own choice to do the interview - which is fair enough.

The issue I originally had was that I thought the club had required him to do that interview - which to be honest was uncomfortable viewing with how clearly upset he was getting.

Based on his exemplary off-field persona and refusal to blame others for the failings it always seemed reasonable to me that this would have been Ole's request to say a proper farewell to the fans (particularly match-going) that have supported him through thick and thin since he took over.

Either way, whilst it's almost impossible not to be critical of him this season, he's sacked now ffs. This pile on afterwards must be about as low as I've seen it get for a supposed 'supporter'.

Is it thought?

I don't think any one of his signings is a guarantee under a new manager. Bruno most likely will but he might have to adapt his role. Maguire seriously needs a kick up the arse but he'll probably end up sticking around. The rest are touch and go at best.

You'd expect Sancho and DvB to get more minutes now but considering Ole's reluctance to play them does he really deserve credit for that?
The current squad is clearly superior to the one Solskjaer took over 3 years ago. How is this even an argument?

I wish he would have won the Europa just so he could celebrate as a coach of United, but still, he did get rid of some dead weight and we have a decent (if not uneven) roster, hopefully a more accomplished manager can take them to trophies

Why are people slating him for doing this? Look at the reaction he got from the away crowd yesterday at full time, this is Ole apologising and trying to make amends.

Fair enough he wasn't good enough as a manager, that doesn't mean he can't be a classy guy also, which he clearly is.

It was like a poorly family dog that needed to be put down weeks ago, but the owners were to busy to give the go ahead.

The proof of the pudding will be in 12-18 months when we have a full time manager. Personally think his squad building is heavily overrated and only a couple will be mainstays, with maybe one or two more still being around as squad players.

It seems to do it to all the managers since SAF. Moyes looks younger now than when he left here. It made LVG look ill it even wore down Jose.
This is troubling but also telling of the monumental weight on a single person's shoulder and the enormity of the position being in charge of Manchester United.

Exactly. Football is about emotion for the fans. Always has been. If you don't feel sad that a manager who happens to be a legend is getting sacked and are mocking him, something is not right with you

The man looks broken, gutted to have ultimately failed, it’s obviously a sad but amicable partying of ways and to avoid it looking like a cold sacking of a club legend we’ve given him the chance to address the fans in a farewell video, absolutely nothing wrong in that and it speaks volumes of the man to front up whilst emotional and do an interview immediately after being sacked, why? Because he cares what the fans think.

It’s gone wrong this season, big time, he knows that and accepts it, you won’t hear him making excuses.

He made slow and steady progress here and picked us up from a dark place, I was there at Cardiff on his first game and I never expected it to last as long as it did, he provided some good memories (yes as well as bad this season) but I believe he can look back at the 3 years and find a bit of pride in the fact he gave his all and left us in a better place than he found us, whatever caveat you want to throw into that doesn’t matter, he restored some pride prior to this seasons downfall.

Thanks for giving your all Ole as a player and as a manager. That’s what I’ll remember him for.

Do fans generally agree that he has left the club in a better position than when he took over?
Definitely. We have great players with a great future. He was an average tactician, but I think he did a great cultural job, which a new manager will benefit from. It will be much easier to take over after Ole compared to what Ole took over after Mourinho. I think he have laid the foundation for future success. He unfortunately didn’t have skills to fulfil our potential himself.

Which other Manager would show such emotions on their way out? Be on your way legend. You tried your best.
Yeah. Even if he wasn't the one to bring us trophy's he did a lot of good for the spirit of the club and it's clear he loves this club so much.
True United legend.

That may likely be the last public interview we see of Ole for decades. He gave so much to the club and is clearly in bits about what's happened. He feels the same for Man United as a lot of you. Some of you are still gloating or expressing sincere hatred of the man. You got what you wanted. What more do you need?

My wit's end
The remit of every United manager since Fergie retired has been:

1. Get us back to the point where we can challenge at the top
2. Challenge at the top

Ole couldn't quite make it to number 2. But he's the only manager since 2013 who even came close to succeeding at number 1. For that alone, he leaves with a huge amount of credit.

It's a sad day that didn't work out all the way. But the wheels only started to come off against Villa on 25th September. Up until then, he gave me my faith back in United. Overall, his tenure has been good with the exception of a horrific few weeks at the end.

Maybe it's still too raw right now for a lot of fans to see the progress he's made. But in years to come, he'll be seen as the man who kick-started the post-Fergie era. We may never reach SAF's heights again. But any heights we do reach in the next decade will be because of foundations Ole built.

He spent nearly half a billion. It would need to be better.
Yeah but it clearly is better though.

Good players generally don't come cheap and let's not forget LVG and Jose spent around £650m between them to cobble together the clusterfeck Solskjaer took over 3 years ago.

Steven Segal has a caf account!

With all due respect just relax man. Forums are like this. It is what it is.
Agreed, forums are like this, it is what it is, and I’m entitled to voice my opinion as well. These dregs of society deserve to be called out and put in their proper place now. I can only imagine what would happen if some of these went round Salford spouting that. They’d get a proper knock that their parents failed to give. Well deserved, too.
