It'll be interesting to see how he copes with the new coach's demands of placing a heavy emphasis on verticality. For me he takes a extra second to get the ball under his control and plays mostly safe low risk passes.

Now the coaching is gonna be centred around breaking lines vertically and it'll be interesting to see how things pan out. I think we may see some interesting team selections in the next 6 months.

Another underwhelming performance from a player who’s officially a midfielder but really doesn’t have any of the attributes of a proper midfielder. I still like McTominay as a squad man for United but the sight of him starting match after match for a club which aspires to lift major trophies is horrifying. He’s what we got for now but we really, really — really — need to upgrade on him as soon as possible.

For those of you who thought he was brilliant tonight, do you really in your heart of hearts believe that his performance tonight would get him anywhere near the squads of Liverpool, City or Chelsea?

I didn’t think so.

I thought generally he was much better tonight than he was at the weekend. He didn’t seem to shy away from as many passes as he normally does. By no means was his performance perfect and there is still a lot to improve on but it was all quite good. One major black spot on the performance was that jogging back bit for there 2nd goal. Both he and Fred needed to have seen that much earlier.

Second half he started making progressive passes. Played better than his own performances, but still not that good as a CM.

He'll be used because he is a physically impressive player and we don't have many options in midfield... but I really don't think he is much of a player. He could drop down the relegation spots of Burnley/Norwich/Newcastle and he wouldn't stand out as a midfielder too good for that club. That's my honest opinion about him. Only being persisted with because he's an academy product.

Not at all a case like Lingard where he is actually good enough for a team like West ham where he impresses there. McTominay is just a run of the mill player that wouldn't stand out anywhere and realistically is a lower mid table player.

carrick deserves huge credit for bringing the best out of mctominay so quickly or at least getting him closer to 100% fit

Another terrible performance from McTominay. He gave away possession a lot and just looked lost in the second half.

He had his customary yellow card and tried to help Palace with stupid late fouls. Lad should get into wrestling or Rugby. Not a footballer

He has had several chances and is slowly becoming a Jesse lingard in our midfield. Consistently poor with the odd one or two games.

Think even Donny made better tackles in recent times than him.

Very mixed bag and it will be long weeks before Rangnick's training sessions kicks in.

He's a weak link in the team for sure. I'd make it a priority to bring in a player to replace him.

Awful today.

The worst thing is how languid he is when we're in possession. Never making runs, never making himself available for the ball. It's dreadful.

Him and Wan Bissaka are technically flawed players.

Needs to be sold.

Given we were trying to press today, his first attempted tackle was in the 74th minute. Fred managed 9 attempted tackles in that time period. He just doesn't do enough in a game.

Yeah he’s looking like our weakest link to me, replace him with a good CDM, play 2 of Fred, Bruno & DVB as 8’s then rotate your forwards.

I thought he was really good in the first half, played some nice balls out wide and looked to be at least moderately progressive with his passing. Second half I honestly don't think I noticed him on the pitch other than for the yellow card. He's the most glaring player that needs upgrading

How is it possible for him to always end up chasing players from behind when he's almost always facing them face front at the start of any play?

Surely the first to get out of first eleven. Another day another game where he's again really done nothing great

Can't make forward passes, takes too many touches, make sooo many useless foul

Worst player today. Passing has been horrendous. He should be shown his way out next summer.

His tackles almost always lead to fouls as well he doesn’t know how to be discrete with them.

A fouling machine
His centre of gravity is too high IMO. That's why he rarely make clean tackles and is too easy to get passed.

If you look at City and how their players crowd a player and tackle, they avoid the physical contact and focus on nicking the ball out, and if you look at their foul record, they're usually on the lower half of the foul table. With McTominay, he always has to 'feel' the player whilst making the tackle. It's not smart. It gives the opposition player a reason to go down. It should be common sense in football but never is. Even with professionals.

He's been struggling, but the hate he's getting is waaaay over the top. The cafe has to have a player to pick on. It was Lindelof, then Fred, and now it's Mctominay.

He was very poor, not sure what's the point of him playing. Doesn't show up for the ball, very negative in his play. Dalot even asked him to make the run when he had huge space ahead and McT just stayed back for throw in.

I hope De Beek gets chance instead of him and biggest hope is, he shouldn't be clubbed together with Fred.

I used to like him but he doesn't deserve to be a starter.

A squad option when injuries happen at best.
