I think they should just cancel the winter WC in Qatar now. Can't see it happening with the need to stretch the domestic seasons out, fit in remaining qualifiers, etc... Was a terrible idea awarding it to them anyway.

This threatened to happen last year but the nationwide lockdown meant cases among players stopped, as household mixing with others became illegal and the cases went down. Now, society is open but the cases are just as high, and with the fact there is more immunity in society and the booster jab is accelerating, society is currently still open and mixing is still allowed despite soaring cases.

But a positive test for a PL player means the same as it always has and will - they can’t play. So this is only going to get worse unless the PL imposes mixing restrictions on players, at least until the booster rollout has happened.

On one hand football fans have to get vaccinated to attend the game but the vaccination is not mandatory for football players. Brilliant.

Well yeah, on one hand footballers are allowed to run about on the field. On the other hand if football fans do it they get arrested.

Feels like we are close to a circuit breaker moment again.
That won’t do any good whilst the rest of society is open. They will need to start imposing strict measures for the players to follow over the Christmas period. If they just ask them to reduce mixing and then impose restrictions on training and tighter testing, similar to Project Restart, they should be able to avoid an obscene amount of postponements.

So we’re going for the league for number 20 and might win it behind closed doors yet again. Christ

BBC stating that clubs were told on Thursday to return to emergency measures including social distancing and wearing masks. On Monday the frequency of lateral flow and PCR tests has increased.

The Africa Cup of Nations could be cancelled due to Covid, it's "more that an a probability" according to french media RMC.

For real. I did not expect Stevie G of all people to be this well adjusted adult tailor made for management.
My opinion of him changed massively when I watched his one on one interview with Neville about his career. I can’t remember the name of the series but it’s well worth a watch.

Cameroon doesn't seem to have a big Covid issue, with a bit of testing should be possible to do it. For the players and local fans anyway. Travelling there as a fan from Europe etc is probably out.

The world cup next year right in the middle of the northern hemisphere winter will be a severe challenge though. Probably won't be fans?

Is it The Overlap? I've listened to the ones with Keane, Carragher and Lampard on podcast but didn't notice the one with Gerrard.

Soccerbox I think. It won’t be on podcast as they review their best goals etc.

I think the reason he came across so well is because I watched it straight after the Rooney one. Rooney came across incredibly shy and pretty vacuous to be honest.

There will be more variants of this virus and we can expect all football and sports to be affected for some years to come.
They will have to find a way around this to stage games and allow fans into stadiums, but how.?

They can just get tested instead of the vaccine, right? So both groups have to submit to some kind of mandatory testing as a backup, and a lot of players are being tested on top of vaccination, as I understand it. This is what Arsenal said about stadium entry:
All match attendees aged 18 and over must bring a valid COVID Pass or proof of a negative lateral flow/PCR test taken within 48 hours before the fixture to Emirates Stadium, and be prepared to show it when asked

Yep. I’ve seen this argument multiple times and it makes no sense. I don’t really understand the moaning about the vaccine passport for events, it just means you have to take 5 minutes out of your day if you’re not vaccinated.

I think we should have a winter break but it will be very hard to do that considering how congested next season is going to be.

All these games being called off, my God. This is winter forever now, either crack on and teams deal with it, or just fecking cancel fun for a decade.
This is it exactly, pretty likely nothing will have changed much in one year or in ten, probably even a hundred! Got to get on with it, ultimately it'll have to be dealt with like influenza and other seasonal viruses always have been.

We've got vaccines, treatments and just got to get on with it.
