It's not more amazing. There were a few clinging on to Martial's covid season and labeling last season an anomaly.

It's a shitty opinion that I didnt share.

Wanting him gone and then whining about when it's happening on the other hand is completely mental.

You seem dead certain about it being a loan and him not taking a pay cut. What's your source?

Even if he wasn't, your phrasing of us still paying that fat salary and Sevilla only partially is bull, as United is never going to okay a move where we're paying half his salary.

Because he prefers Sevilla (actually playing) there's a good chance he'll take a pay cut if they can't cover the salary, otherwise he wouldnt have much preferring to do.

You're just speculating in a way that paints Martial in the most negative light possible.

It's not justified based on what we know.
What’s my source on martial not taking a pay cut? The fact that it would be completely unprecedented. He might be the first player in the history of world football to go on loan AND lower his salary (which would mean a contract renewal with United before he left), if he is then credit to him for realising his wage isn’t justifiable for his output, I’d have more respect for him if that was the case.

However, despite all that, he is contracted to Manchester United, and we promised to pay him £250k a week, presumably regardless of injury, play time etc. that extends to us sending him on loan at another club. Loaning a player doesn’t mean you own them and it doesn’t mean the loaning club are responsible for his wages, United still are. We agree with Sevilla that they will pay US a fee to cover his wages while on loan. They don’t have any contract dealings or negotiations in that regard at all. So what’s your source for saying he’s taking a pay cut seeing as you’re so sure of it?

And if you think United aren’t going to be paying a large % of his salary while he’s at Sevilla you must have completely missed the Sanchez thing at Inter.

Let’s face it, if Martial wants a new contract that isn’t sub £100k a week, he has to start playing regularly, so Sevilla is a no brainer. Should he leave United in 2026 when his contract is up, having barely played, he’s going to France to play mid table football and he can kiss the money he’s currently on goodbye for good.

If I’m speculating in a way that makes him look bad, you’re avoiding all the evidence in front of you in hope that he’s good.

We’ve all been watching United for decades, we’ve seen some of the best strikers in the world come and go and yet for some reason we all can’t agree if he’s good or bad, which to me suggests he’s not good enough. United fans know a world class striker when they see one, it’s never been in doubt.

DDG is on almost 400k p/w and Sanchez's legs were just shot. I wouldn't mind having Martial around if we don't get a loan offer that we like. If he's unhappy and wants to move, he either takes a pay cut or convinces some club to pay his wages in my book.
If he takes a pay cut then he’s more than welcome to stick around and warm the bench but for the salary he’s on we can’t justify him bench warming.

Great post and I didn't realise he was contracted up until 2026...that looks ludicrous now

I think we'll struggle to shift him for a fee over £10m honestly

I know a few of the old Martial-FC lot will jump on me for that, but his wages are too high and he's a massive gamble

If you were a manager would you want to spend your budget on him and back him to be your number 9 for a season?

We need to put him on loan and hope he does something good

Even if he did we’d probably just Lingard him

You talk in certainties that we wouldn't carry the can for his loan but we have done so before in a situation where we have an "asset" that is utterly useless.

The fact is, shifting 50% of a huge salary elsewhere for a player that has done the square root of nothing all year makes better business sense than paying 100% for him to do the same thing. We also get to potentially drum up some interest in him which is probably lacking for a full transfer at this time as nobody knows what they're getting.

So it's quite easy in fact to see why we may agree to a deal that doesn't look financially brilliant if it's the only reasonable prospect of realising some of his value.

Like we did with Lingard? People are just going to have to accept that we are run by idiots compared to the competition. Whoever sanctioned that contract for Martial is crazy. You put him on the same money as Salah is currently on. A moody young player who has only done it in flashes and disappeared for months at a time vs the best forward in the league since Aguero and a CL winner. Those kinds of players are on half that until they become consistent or get sold. Not at Utd though! All of our top earners post Fergie have been terrible business or became terrible shortly after. Plenty of players we’ve put in the 200s simply aren’t worth it either. Rashford and Martial being two of the most obvious. On current form no other club in the world is going to shell out a big fee and pay either of them 300k a week to play football for them. We’ve massively and falsely inflated their value and supposed importance to us through our own incompetence.

I agree. But yes, it's not too dissimilar to Lingard ultimately. Players that are on more money than anybody wants to pay while paying a transfer fee that would be considered reasonable on here.

I don't think we have such great options with these players. People make out that the not selling is the incompetence, but actually that's just lying in the bed we already made with our wage structure and contractual decisions. Very difficult to get anything out of our non-performers.

If we're ever going to get the fees people say we should we have to take bolder decisions and do it more quickly in a players time with us. There isn't a magic button we can press to sell them later. Some people on here actually thought we'd get 40 mill for Martial in the summer :wenger:

Martial would be a loss for the depth of this team, but his huge wages were always a mistake compared to what he's actually accomplished. People want to reduce what he's done to almost nothing, but he was PotS last year, and with a mediocre (at best) Rashford, a hot and cold Sancho, and CR7/Cavani who aren't able to play every game, if Martial is to go it would have to be with an adequate replacement otherwise it's a dumb move IMO. He's still very much capable of being an impact player.

Do posters here genuinely believe Martial is on 250k base salary honestly .

How does it matter? Maybe he is on 215K + addons or 200K plus addons.. Still it is a high value compared to the output.
Well it kind of matters ,let's assume 250k is the maximum he gets including appearance bonus , goals target met , Pl and Cl winning bonus , image rights etc depending on what % all of these are of highest earning it puts things in different perspective . Because quite a few of those things he won't be achieving sitting on the bench which might make more likely to move on even on reduced salary .

According to Cristobal Soria, who is a Sevilla based reporter working for El Chiringuito TV, Sevilla have closed a agreement with Martial.

Hopefully it's true, they won't have the money to buy him permanently mostly because of his wages but he can have a good spell there and then we can sell him elsewhere in the summer.

It matters. For example, Pogba max wages is 290K per week, his base salary is 155K per week. So that's close to 50% in bonus, add ons.

His contract was leaked, so many other official documents were leaked few years ago. Belgian journalist also reported this, he took figures from leaked documents

I've seen that.

Martial signed a 5+1 years deal in Jan 2019, and the media said he was handed a 250k a week deal, but I guess in reality it's similar to Pogba's deal, a base + performances related bonuses kinda deal, Rashford also renewed in Jun 2019, probably the same thing happened there.

Personally, I don’t understand the animosity the lad gets for his wages - he is married with a child in a foreign land and has to still pay over 45% in taxes on his base salary. His base salary is about 165K.

Dragging a man for his wages based on unfair comparisons from other teams’ structures is not fair. He paid the price to stay when many players did not want to join us. Now that we are seemingly on the uprise, he is made out to be the problem.

Assuming we don’t qualify for CL next season — CR7 and Cavani will leave us, yet this lad is made out to be here for the money.

Wasn't there some discussion about how our wage budget in the annual reports lines up more with the higher base wage figures? AKA that it's more likely that all the higher base wage reports (290k, 250k, 200k, 350k, etc etc) are true and not the oh-his-base-wage-is-actually-only-_______'

Might have seen it on reddit and not here.

Yeah, usually media reports "players earns upto 250K" which means that's the max including all possible bonuses.

Base wage figure is not mentioned in the annual report. The total wages spent in that FY will be mentioned, which includes bonuses achieved in that year.

Can you explain why it matters again? Don’t understand why it matters because I think all wages out there in internet/reported whether you play for Man United or Sevilla or Atl Madrid are included bonus. If Rakitic wages is currently 110k p/w, that’s also included bonus and his base wages without bonus could be 60k-80k p.w. So at the end, Martial still need to cut his base wages to whatever Sevilla structured.

Don't need a source . That's how loans have always worked. His wage remains the same and it's between the 2 clubs to negotiate who pays what percentage of his current contract.

Pretty sure when we loaned Alexis we were paying all his wages which was bizarre.

We didn't pay all his wages, Inter paid majority of his wages. We paid full wages for Nani when we loaned him out to Sporting but that was part of the deal to sign Rojo.

Sanchez earned double his salary mate and refused to move. DOUBLE. In no way is this the same situation.

Martial earns half that and wants to move and seems to indicate he wants to play which makes it's easier to shift him in a way that wont cost us.

I was debating a similar situation regarding Griezmann last summer. No one would buy him, Barca is fecked, etc. Then when someone took him, absolute crickets.

Stop pretending like Martial is utter shit and he'd have to do a Lingard for people to draw interest. Martial had a good 19/20 season and last season was what 7 goals, 10 assists with missing the last 3 months due to injury?

I don't rate the fecker but if he wants to move to play football, clubs will take him. If it's a loan, it'll probably be a conditional buy.

What’s my source on martial not taking a pay cut? The fact that it would be completely unprecedented. Off the top of my head: Guus Til took a massive paycut to go on loan from Spartak to Feyenoord. He didn't renew shit.

So I stopped reading after the bolded. I'm not going to read that wall of shite when the first 2 lines are blatantly untrue. You don't know what you're talking about. There's probably an insulting line in there how I'm delusional and part of Martial FC, is there not?

These upper mid tier Spanish clubs often end up being a good place for players to rejuvenate their careers. I hope the same happens to Martial.

Thanks for this. What's a loyalty payment? The leaks make no mention of appearance fees?

No use. I have probably said this 100 times but people prefer to be lazy when it comes to wages. I repeated this one and also how journalists report wages differently(for different clubs), which gives impression that other clubs pay peanuts when that's not the case. They report base wages for one club and total wages including all possible bonuses for other which paints 2 completely different pictures but still they are used in 1v1 comparision.

Usually these payments are spread across contract and players gets paid for completing each year of that contract.

That's his full contract as per football leaks.

100% no.

I have a feeling he is going to cross over to Spain, perform well and help his team win a trophy or 2 or even 3. He is a team player that many managers would love. Pep recently was also after him.

I also have a feeling that the individuals that will remain who are so driven by individualistic stats (CR7, Rashford, Bruno, Greenwood) will fail to not only win a trophy but also will fail to qualify for the CL this season and the next.

It’s at that point that it will sink in for many that the foundation required for the success of the team is broken — it will take more than individuals to fix this.
