It would have been nice to get just one central midfielder but it’s understandable that we haven’t bought anyone. If new guy doesn’t want him then we clearly haven’t learned from our mistakes. We need to find a style of play and system(s) that suit our squad and in the long term, it will dictate the players we should buy.
Thats what Liverpool have done and that’s why Diogo Jota slots in effortlessly and does well. Jota was purchased for a fairly modest sum by todays market prices and they didn’t go out and buy some obvious excellent individual talent like we do for a marquee price and then seemingly wonder how we fit them into the side. In terms of Solskjaer, it felt like he was trying to shoehorn in as much individual talent into a starting XI as possible and thought individual brilliance will trump over a playing system, because Ferguson did it 10 years ago.
I do like that we’ve cleared the decks though. Hopefully a big summer of activity awaits us.
