After they first half, a draw a great result. Rashford, Pogba, Bruno, Fred, Shaw were horrifically bad.

the tempo was so slow, so predictable and also not good enough for this level. Really was shambolic. De Gea slow off his line that led to first Madrid corner, felt nervy from there and it just snowballed across the team.

subs changed the game. Fred then was much better on the ball when Pogba was taken off. Strong finish and something to build on.

Ralf is great. He knows we are shit, and he knows our players are miserable feckers too.

Being out played by Athletico away is nowhere near the same as being shut out by Watford so yes the difference is huge
Were we really outplayed? Their dominance in the press in first half seems to have clouded judgement. They had 38% of the ball and 1 shot on target. Our problems were our own in not being aggressive enough early on

Our football was terrible. It’s easy to play against us, a team just needs to press us a bit to put us out of the game. We were out-muscled on the pitch, we are lucky altetico are themselves a team that is far from their best.

bruno crucial again, despite a terrible performance, he still creates chances.

good result away from home. However, knowing us, playing at home doesn’t necessarily mean an advantage. We massively need to improve

Manchester United goalscorer Anthony Elanga tells BT Sport: "Think it was my first touch as well. I have dreamt of moments like this, scoring in the Champions League against top European teams like Atletico Madrid, a dream come true. It is only first half, we have to be ready for the second half at Old Trafford.

"I told you how calm and cool I am and whenever I am given a opportunity I want to repay the manager and give 150% everytime I step onto the pitch. I just do what I can do, I want to be the best player on the pitch and I appreciate the boss.

"You've got to stay in the game, anything can happen. We did not play the best in the first half, but improved after the substitutions in the second half.

"He (Ralf Rangnick) said to me to make the defenders scared and run in behind. When I get the opportunity to take it. I wanted a good result for the fans because they came a long way."

Wonder if that injury he had is a part of the problem? in any case, he's lost all confidence and the more anxious he gets, the more he messes up. Hope he can sort it out though.
He really needs to just go back to basics, not try to take on the whole opposing defence, when he struggles to get past the first defender, and shooting from 30 yards out, just get the ball wide and get a good cross in, or makes runs in behind.

Agreed with most of your post but Lindelof motm ??!! In fairness they were all shite so cant think of anyone who deserves it more...Elanga for the goal I spose !
Everyone from CM to Forwards were abysmal. Think our defence did ok (despite some silly moments), and from that Lindelof stood out for making 3-4 key tackles and interceptions that stopped what might have ended up being goal scoring chances. For me Elanga gets hero of the match.

Rashford lacking confidence big time. His lack of technical ability is also another problem for him as he can't fall back on that when he's feeling shaky. Still, I hope he sorts himself out.
Agreed. He looks lost at times. That ridiculous shot from way out summed it up for me. It was as if he couldn't figure out a better option.

Should have brought Elanga on in 1stvset of subs, in saying that as game went, delighted with a draw

Great result. Elanga took his goal very well. Matic proved why we need a defensive midfielder and Fred proved why we need more options in the middle. The 15 minutes Matic had energy was easily our best 15 minutes. Second half was better than the first, but nowhere near good enough.

Ahhh what a nice interview. Sounds lovely does Elanga. Long may he keep his head screwed the right way on.

Feels like when we come under pressure we just revert back to the old Mourinho/Solskjaer safety-first approach, which seems to be these players' comfort zone.

We were nowhere near aggressive enough, with or without the ball. If we're going to achieve anything, we need to be brave and avoid falling back in to bad habits.

Their intensity in the first half wasn’t going to be sustainable, I don’t think mattered who started game for us we just can’t cope when teams play like that, haven’t been able to for years.

Lack of quality and consistent poor decision making in 2nd half was shocking, but somehow in the end a good result.

Our problems were that not enough players turned up for the occasion. We had some seriously dire performances out there.

McTominay, Cavani, Elanga, Dalot and Telles have to start the 2nd leg.

Rashford, Shaw, Maguire and Fred can't start.

De Gea
Dalot Varane Lindelof Telles
Pogba McTominay Fernandes
Sancho Cavani Elanga

Really want to see this. I'd back us to beat them 2.0 at Old Trafford if we did name that lineup.

We need to be honest here: we were absolutely rubbish. Aside from DDG, Lindelof, Bruno (assist) and the subs, they were all utterly useless. Marcus Rashford the main perpetrator once again, it’s indescribable how awful he has been this season. You’d think that he would realise how crap he’s been, but he’s still shooting from 100 yards at every opportunity, with this latest special flying into the Bernabeu. Attitude of David Beckham, ability of David Bentley.

Learn from Elanga boys, that’s all I’m saying. Rhythm is a dancer.

Good result in the end that makes it a one off game at OT.

I mean we should all be used to playing terribly and nicking results with moments by now and that was another one those nights. Horrendous first half and slightly less terrible in the second. Rashford and Bruno were awful but at least Bruno popped up with the vital assist at the end.

Elanga is a breath of fresh air in this shit show of a squad. They should be embarrassed by their attitudes in comparison to his.

This is probably worst Atletico under Simeone? 1-1 is a good result away from home I guess. We're in a bad state but let's hope players can do well in return leg or at least better than tonight.

Great quotes. Delighted for the lad and while frustrating, 1-1 away is fine. We'll do these shithouse cnuts at OT.

Our off the ball movement is abysmal, and we dont have that many players with great technique either. No wonder we always look like crap against decent teams

I’d go with that but Rangnick won’t. I’d like him to try a false 9 at some point. Ronaldo is our only option at 9 currently and he’s not hacking it. A false 9 would let us play McFred and maybe push Bruno further forward.

Meh. The tie is very much alive heading to Old Trafford , can’t hope for more than that these days.
We made far too many errors in the first half, a lot of it was down to their manic intensity which was aided by the early goal.We will see how they handle pressure at OT, not too well I believe.
Two quality goals lit up the game.

Atleti better team in the first half, United the better in the second. Think it was a fair result and game on in the second leg, will be another low scoring game.

Couple of good signs; how much they seemed to run out of steam. The keeper looks dodgy. That defender lad that got booked seems a right carrot and stick

What changed for Utd after the 1st 6 minutes? Before -- couldn't get out of AM's penalty box; afterwards--could. Did we leave a couple of players in the dressing room?

Didn't see the game, sounds like another slog with lots of underperformers, looking at the goals the non existent awareness for Felix's movement was terrible, but Elanga took his goal superbly, altered his stride smoothly, looked up and rolled it home, gives us a fighting chance in the 2nd leg.

Yeah and City before that. But at least we have a few days extra than normal, between Watford and City and spurs and Liverpool. Tough games and we need the rest. So stupid not to have gone for Zakaria. We’ll be lucky if someone doesn’t get injured. Very sensible with Pogba right now.
