I really think Rashford will go down as one of the first footballers whose career will have been wrecked by social media. The whole campaigning thing means he ended up more immersed online than he should be, which could easily end up going down a rabbit hole of toxicity and personal abuse as soon as he puts in a few poor performances. Which will eat away at him and affect his confidence and love for the club/fans. Self perpetuating cycle that gets us where we are.

Obviously, the professional thing to do was to put his damn phone away but he didn’t and this is what’s happened.

A 10 page apology letter. Starting from how he was a kid. How his family struggled. How the club means so much to him and his family. How fans are his life and all. And how hurt he was to drop out of the CL and how emotions got better of him. Lot of sobbing and then several apologies.
Disappointed. That is just 1 page.

Can't believe Rashford is being blamed for this? Abusing your own players to their face. Is that what we now are? He's not playing poorly on purpose is he? The guy is clearly in a very difficult place.

We truly have some of the most entitled spoilt brat fans in the world. Have your opinions about anyone you like. Nobody has to rate him if they don't want to but we don't treat our own like this.

If you're angry...vent it at the owners. Marcus Rashford isn't to blame for our situation even though a lot of you want to blame him for everything.

This club and their individual social media posts. Their talking is done on the pitch and the less said about that the better..

A video can paint a thousand words? His emotion got the better of him but all he did was tell the dude come say it to my face and beckon him over with not his middle finger.

This statement is a mistake from PRashford. There might be more videos out there and if he's caught lying in an obvious way it might really hurt him.

Why wasn't he eager to show that fight on the pitch ? He had the chance to release all the energy, anger and hunger for success in actual CL match.

No football, just essays on Twitter. Weak.

We need the bubble bursting thread back.

and the Instagram post being referenced:

"Imagine speaking to your fans like that".

Given the amount of abuse some fans seems to feel they're entitled to dish out it speaks to a high degree of professionalism on the part of footballers that we don't get more physical confrontations, let alone verbal ones.

Non issue. Was obviously upset at just going out and the slightest thing set him off. Good to actually see him showing real emotions rather than always being airbrushed as the heavily saint by his PR team.

If that was Keane you'd have people praising him. Move on.

Here we go...
Here we go what?

The abuse that lad is taking is ridiculous. He's not playing poorly on purpose.

You're all absolute nobodies. What the hell have you all done in your lives? This lad has achieved more than any of us ever will by the age of 24.

We can all be critical of players performances but we don't abuse them directly.

It's okay, emotion got better of him. Will probably get another season to improve (especially as we don't have many attacking options really). If he does, great. If not, bye. Well done for all the humanitarian aid outside the pitch but at some point you have to start delivering on the pitch as well.

In his defence: playing Rasford on right wing is pointless imo.

Didn't know Rashford's mom was on the Caf!

How old are you? 12?

I get that people are angry but Rashford came on a substitute. This drop from the Fergie days isn't on him. It's time people took out their frustration on the people who are really to blame.

These statements are embarrassing man. He must realise this is the opposite of damage control now, right?

If there's one thing fans love to do, it's to play the victim. They give football players dogs abuse, both in person and on social media, then immediately fecking cry when they dare say something back.

Verbally abuse them for weeks, give them shit throughout the game, then as soon as the player has the gumption to say something back, they're all "sir, did you see that sir? did you hear what he said to me"

Feck off.

Do we though? Part of the reason we’ve regressed so badly is unwavering support no matter how bad things get. We’ve gone from sweeping up trophies for fun to a shadow of a once great club within a decade. Since the retirement of Sir Alex through all the managers, all the crap coming in and out of the club, the complete lack of direction and all the lows seen on the pitch there’s probably been only a few instances of match going fans voicing their displeasure and booing will have people staring daggers at you.

Always supported and always clapped down the tunnel no matter what, it’s only recently fans are starting to crack. Now compare that to fans of other clubs that claim to be one of the biggest in the world, even fans of teams who’ve won nothing for 30 odd years are more vocal in their displeasure.

Well said.

If you give it out then take it.

Makes me laugh too. Bet half the people abusing him have a belly bigger than 3 of his and couldn't trap a football zipped into them if their life depended on it.

Criticism is fine. Abusing our own players directly is not. Sign of the times I'm afraid.

Talk about missing the point. Fans are people and there will be good and bad amongst them. Rashford has had more defenders than most until his form was so horrible, he's being dropped for club and soon country.

Rashford overacted to a random comment by a random fan that was only slightly critical with a weird invitation to fight. He then came out with a predictable statement trying to explain himself. Like Pogue said, it's all actually kind of sad. A fresh start in a new league might be best for all parties.

They were hardly abusing him in fairness. Told him his performance was awful which it was yet again.

Love how everyone sides with the millionaire footballer who played on the pitch like a toddler yet gets angry with fans waiting with their kids for autographs from behind a security guard.

He needs to let the club know if he doesn't want to play for them anymore.

Everyone knew this was coming

Some on this forum, spent their 3-4 years abusing players like Pogba is now preaching how fans should behave with Rashford. Pogba was verbally assaulted at the end of the season when football players had their families with them and he reacted far better than him.

Disappointed. That is just 1 page.
10 page one goes to the press. How Ole betrayed him and how Rangnick dropping him is affecting his mental state. Plus a promotion of his book.

I wonder if Rashford is aware the constant essay PR posts are one of the things that get the fans annoyed...if I was in the United squad at the moment I'd tell my team to cool it with the social media posts until the summer.

So, he's human after all?

Good.

With all the humanitarian work, kids lunch boxes and what not.... there's a bloody wanker underneath.

I like that! Fecking show some emotion!
Tell us to go feck ourselves!

I love the fact he's doing all the charity work, it just seems all the nicenes transferred on the pitch and he lost that bit of cockiness needed to succeed on the pitch.
