He wasn't shit before. He is shit this season. Shock horror, confidence shot after what happened in the euros and United being garbage all year. Not like he's some exception in a shining team.

People need to learn how to support. Not just chant their name when the players are scoring every game and then discard them when they go through a bad run.
He is being criticised because of his form and attitude just like any other player will get. That criticism isnt personal. His constant PR articles and leaks to press when he himself in horrible form is infuriating and isnt helping him.

He has been given enough support. But when you see his performance, its not his form but his general attitude which is huge cause of concern. And then these tweets dont help.

No he hasn't. Last season he got over 20 goals and 13 assists from the left.

This season he's been very poor no question. So have most of them though.

This is clearly personal for many. I have never seen people go in on a substitute as much in my life. He only came on because the ones sent out from the start were useless too.

People need to start going in on the real issue. The owners and board.

I was on his side for a long time, but coming out like that after the derby defeat with the most incredible journo summing up he's considering a move is just a pisstake. Shows he's completely lost touch with everything imo. Used to be a humble guy, but he sounds like an overpaid diva at the moment.

Which thread do you think we're in?
Oh don't give me that nonsense. This one is getting way more traffic and he only came on as a sub.

You're all feeling better though taking it out on Rashy. First bad season in his career and this is how we treat him? Awful.

There is normal criticism and there is personal, toxic abuse and he's been getting the latter. People want to discard him at a big rough patch when the whole team is a disaster. A homegrown player who is 24 and has up until now mostly been both a fantastic player and an absolute star off the pitch for us. At a time where we sorely need some positive off pitch impact from our home grown guys after the shit with Giggs and Greenwood, yet people have been frothing at the mouth for ages waiting for him to slip. Claiming "the mask is off". feck off. These fake ass fans don't deserve anything but constant failure.

This has one more page than Maguire (and that's because of the off field stuff yesterday)
Sancho and ronaldo have more pages
Pogba has only five less pages

So no, this one does not have 'way more traffic"
And if we're only talking about yesterday, it was his 'performance' off field that has driven the additional activity

Awful indeed

He's generally been poor since coming back from his back injury imo.

When he was scoring/assisting a fair amount last season I singled him out stating his goal contributions were the only reason why he was looking good. Take out them and he had nothing to offer. Since then, he's shown exactly what I said over a year ago. A lot of people bit my head off for that comment.

Not only that but his attitude completely stinks. I really don't think this so-called "traffic" is unjustified, if he was actually looking like he wanted to play and was putting 100% in on the pitch, i'd accept that. But he's still lazy as ever and looks like he is ready to just retire. Fed up of it really and it's a shame.

The abuse of Rashford has really ramped up since he came out and attacked Boris and the Tories over kids meals. It's fairly obvious it's playing a part.

This is Rashford's first poor season in 5/6 years. Every single player in this squad who has been with us for a while has had at least one bad season in them.

It's gone way beyond criticism now. The guy is playing poorly. He's not doing that on purpose.

He's actually scored the most goals in the post Fergie era too. Probably right up there in assists too but I haven't checked that.

Agendas everywhere.
The guy is poor for more than 12 calendar months, and average for the previous 12 months. The last time he was really good, Covid was not a thing. You are also actually using a tory, neoliberal attitude about someone being successful as a reason for the rest, the plebs, to shut up.

Rashford was at his best a good player. Media hyped him as an equal to Mbappe, while the truth is he has half of his talent, and evidently work ethic.

He’s been shit since January 2021. That’s 15 months ago. It’s simple addition.

Feel sorry for him personally, it’s a bloody horrible situation we’re in as a club. Fans have turned on pretty much the entire squad, coaching staff and anyone in any position in the upper echelons of the hierarchy.

Sad state of affairs in my view.

Emotions are running high so some criticism will go overboard but Rashford form and attitude is shocking. And he has been given enough support. He missed 3 months of the season to sit on the bench in Euros. If any other player had done that, he would have been slaughtered here.

I dont agree with this “academy player” should get less criticism part. He is 24 now and should be treated like any other player. It makes sense when player is 18-19.

I often feel the same as you. I hate the abuse McTominay gets for example - one of our own who gives his all whenever he plays.

But I've got to say, Rashford does invite some of it on himself with his carefully choreographed social media presence. If he's going to turn himself into a high profile brand and profit from the clicks and attention that generates, it's up to him to ensure his performances match up. He can't then be upset that his poor performance is highlighted more than other underperforming players who keep their heads down and find a way to make ends meet with only their salaries and traditional sponsorship deals.

If he wasn't coming out with the nonsense on Twitter and Instagram after every game, I am 100% sure a lot more fans would be showing a lot more patience.

News flash bud, scoring 20+ goals and 15 assist in a season isn't shit.
Since start of 2021 and up to now, just about 15 months:
2586 minutes or premier league football, 8 goals, 8 assists, 41 matches played

If anything, those numbers are actually impressive considering how shit he's been during this period.

Oh be quiet. Your holier than thou attitude is the same rubbish that people were coming out with when Solskjaer was slowly sinking the ship. "Don't criticise one of our own" and other such nonsense. Give me a break

Have you ever seen a player in injury time, in a match they are losing 0-1, at home, in a knock out CL game, receive the ball in the final third, with only a defender to beat, stop dead in their tracks, turn around and casually side foot it backwards?

(Marcus Rashford)
That was a clear indication that his confidence is shot. The Rashford of two years ago would've taken on his man, and likely beaten him. Now he second-guesses everything and it's sad to see, for both him and us.

You know as well as he does that his second half of last season was a lot different to his first half. He also swore at his captain on the pitch last season, for having the temerity to ask him to track back.

You mentioned Bruno - he is also playing poorly quite often this season - but fans are giving him a lot more leniency because even when things aren't firing on all cylinders for him, he is clearly out there giving it his all. Rashford is visibly and unquestionably not doing the same.

Effort and energy is not too much to expect from someone who is earning £200k a week from finances we provide.

Ah yes the amazing 2nd place, against the no defenders Liverpool, the Lampards Chelsea, and Jose's Spurs. Rashford until 2020 could compensate a with his goals and assists for his awful work ethic during games. Now, he can't even do that. A once decent player, a truly average one now.

I rated Welbeck more than this useful player, ask for a photo? Don't make me laugh. He's a liar, I've no problem with him flipping his middle finger when upset but the PR job denying it is pathetic.
Yeah if he has a fight with a fan and flips him off not too many people care.
Coming out with another PR tweet denying he flipped him off to try and save his saintly image is the bullshit that is irking people (me anyway).

His PR crowd aren't doing a very good job at the moment

None of that means anything really.

Every PL player at a club like United having a season like we’re having is, by definition, an overpaid underachiever.

As for “pr machine fuelled” that’s pretty meaningless too. He’s used social media very effectively to drive an extremely noble cause. I don’t see that as reason for criticism.

The only thing I think you could criticise him for is being too engaged with social media. He seems to care too much about what is said online. It’s obviously messing with his head. IMO that’s an important factor in his shitty form. That would be the opposite of “pr fuelled” though. “PR hindered”, if anything.
I think this is a strange take to be honest. By this standard no player deserves any criticism, but if we get into specifics its nonsense really to say 'none of that means anything.'

On underachieving- hes arguably the biggest underachiever among a squad of them. His form for 18 months has without exaggeration been truly appalling. At times a disgrace, with even basic effort missing.

This leads into PR. I can remember few players, playing so poorly, having such a prominent media presence - forgetting about countless causes- but leaks and briefings about his unhappiness with his role, then game time, and then considering his future. Again today hes in the news trying to protect his good guy image. Its endless and nauseating and ever single emotion doesn't need to be peddled to fans as part of his teams imaging of him as this sensitive and emotionally deep modern man.

Every footballer is overpaid, yes. Rashford is absurdly so. As his pay has gone up his form has gone down and if he hadnt banked credit for the school meals, hed get similar disgust as other players on mind numbing figures.

So yes, if a caricature is an exaggerated version, rashford is all of those things to as extreme a level as any player I've known, and my feeling is that I'd love to see far far less of his teenage boy social media schtik. Or better, see him sold

This guy had his PR team come out with a story about how he was considering leaving right after a 4-1 defeat to one of the club's rivals. That and this whole episode hints at the kind of character he is.

He's absolutely terrible . He's terrible everywhere for sure. There is absolutely no hope at all, not even a glimmer of a chance of extracting past performance.

He doesn't have the game to play on the outside, He can't easily shift into a shooting position
Yes I agree

What irritates me about the PR tweet is that he's still saying his reaction was a response to that one particular fan's "abuse". Except we've all heard the clip and it wasn't abuse.

He probably would have been a better player under better management. By that I don't mean there'd have been much you could do with his natural talent. You can scream 'Tories' at whoever you want but his limitations as a footballer are as plain as the wig on Michael Fabricant's head. However I think he's been allowed to develop an ego and sense of entitlement and diva-like attitude that a better manager would have stepped on and stamped out before it became an issue. If Rashford still worked hard and put in a shift he'd still not be good enough for a regular starting XI place - but he could still contribute.

He is full of himself. The earlier he leaves, the better for everyone. We need him fully focused on the pitch, not on the PR and the other activities he is participating in, that are clearly clashing with our main interests, seeing that he isn't there mentally when putting on the shirt.

He will milk the United born and bred til the end, and we will reward it, even though he is not showing it on the pitch. But he knows it works and you can do that here, people and the board love that.

The thing Rashford clearly isn’t understanding and some of the posters here as well is that fans will accept if you are going through some shit form. We’re not that naive that we’re going to throw you under the bus when you are shot of confidence and nothing is going right for you.

The problem most fans have is when they see you making zero effort to put some graft in actually getting about the pitch. When you are down on confidence and going through wretched form, it doesn’t stop you from running around with intensity and high energy. You don’t need confidence and form to be able to run and chase the ball. Even if you end up running around like a headless chicken, the fans will appreciate your effort.

But when you just walk around like you don’t give a shit (or appear like that from your body language) and you are not going that extra mile to try and show you actually do care followed by flirting with the idea of leaving in the media because you aren’t getting game time, of course fans are going to get agitated and turn on you. Effort and energy goes a massive way to pleasing fans. They will accept your shit form for a long time as long as they see an effort is being made.

Maybe he thinks he deserves a standing ovation for his 11 touches and 7 losses of possession yesterday.

Got a team full of overpaid pansies that have no personality, no heart, no winning mentality, no fight, no hunger and no care in the world. Even when he's caught giving shit to a fan he's releasing statements trying to justify it. At least do it with your chest and feck the PR, I would've rated it more.

Our only 2 players that seem to have heart, fight and hunger are 35 and 37 years old (and I've been big critics of both this season).

Rest of em are whining, moaning pansies that can't take any criticism and want everything on a plate for em.

So maybe because Bruno is also not at it either that would lead you to believe there's something going on at this club that is making this happen rather than Rashford now just being sh1t?

I'm not giving up on him on this season given how crazy and shambolic it's been.

If he stays next season under the new manager and nothing changes then maybe that's time to part ways.

Think people are being incredibly harsh on him tbh. He's been really poor this season but I think over the previous 4 seasons he's been up there among our most consistent whether people like that fact or not.

Do we though? Part of the reason we’ve regressed so badly is unwavering support no matter how bad things get. We’ve gone from sweeping up trophies for fun to a shadow of a once great club within a decade. Since the retirement of Sir Alex through all the managers, all the crap coming in and out of the club, the complete lack of direction and all the lows seen on the pitch there’s probably been only a few instances of match going fans voicing their displeasure and booing will have people staring daggers at you.

Always supported and always clapped down the tunnel no matter what, it’s only recently fans are starting to crack. Now compare that to fans of other clubs that claim to be one of the biggest in the world, even fans of teams who’ve won nothing for 30 odd years are more vocal in their displeasure.
Crazy behaviour from supporters I tell you.

He is rightly being criticized for not lack of form but lack of effort. If he cannot be arsed making an effort for his club the fans should rightly criticize him. He was not sweared at and nothing racist was said at him. Yet he wanted to show how big a person he is and start a fight. Then his PR comes out with all this nonsense. If he cannot be arsed to make an effort then he should feck off from this club.

It's bizarre the animosity that's that's sprung up around Rashford and what seems like desperation from some for him to leave. That can't solely be down to poor his form, think quite a number of United fans have had a number done on them by sections of the British media.

If it is solely down to a young player being in bad form and losing his confidence then Jesus that is fickle.

What are you not understanding? It has got nothing to do with his bad form. it has everything to do with his lack of effort. As others have said even if he ran like a headless chicken fans would accept it. He would not be the first one to run like a headless chicken and be accepted. He is not bothered to make an effort. Lack of form has got nothing to do with it.
The British media if anything has made him an equal to Mbappe. He is no where near him and never was.

Yes, it is solely down to massively underperforming & showing no effort. It’s that simple for me. We have an asset we need to cash in on before it drops any further. That’s looking at it objectively, as it should be looked at.

This outlook can also apply to a large number of the squad.

Read it again.

Last season he got over 20 goals and 13 assists. Does it matter if more came before Christmas or after? Does the golden boot only count goals after Christmas.

What's so difficult to get about that? He finished last season as 2nd in goals and 2nd in assists for us.

He's had a very bad season this year along with 75% of the squad. It can happen.

Over the 4 previous seasons he's been among our most consistent players. Top scorer for us too in the post Fergie era for what it's worth.

For me this isn’t even directed at Rashford in particular. I posted after our game that I hope the fans boo the players at the final whistle. Enough is enough.

We’ve backed the players, a lot of whom have been here through 3-4 managers and it’s the same old story. New manager comes in we do well for a period, think we’re a couple signings away which we make and then the players down tools and the manager gets sacked. It’s time to hold the players accountable.
