I was in Augusta last week. What a place. All the pomp and rules seem acceptable there and add to the atmosphere. Cannot wait to get back. Great weekend for the irish.

Good for you. It’s something everyone should attempt to attend. The cliche that TV doesn’t do something justice is so apropos for ANGC.

It genuinely is. The TV really doesn’t do it justice. It’s genuinely hard to believe the elevation changes around the course. The 10th is iconic. Memories of Rory’s tee shot in 2011 come to mind. But until you’re there and see the 30 odd metre drop from tee to the bottom of the fairway, and then an approach from a downslope to an elevated green, it’s impossible to see just how difficult that hole is. And you could say the same for many holes there.

I was lucky and had a friend who was playing so had a pass for the week. But tickets seemed so hard to come by, unless you were willing to part with upwards of $1000 a day. The tickets themselves aren’t actually that expensive. They’re just nearly impossible to get a hold of, so you’re forced to pay extortionate prices from touts, which seems to be perfectly legal over there.

Near impossible to get in the ballot but easy on the resale market. You can buy packages from travel companies but they charge nearly as much as the touts but disguise it with throwing in a hotel and transfers etc. I'm heading next year but unsure if I'll try and sort it myself or do it through a company. Tying it in with a trip to play Sawgrass, Kiawah, Harbour Town and Pinehurst.

How many Pinehurst courses will you be playing?

Think 2 or 3, will definitely play No2 then 1/2 of the others, haven't fully worked out how much time I will be there for. Also unsure which of the other courses are considered the best.

4 & 8 were my two favorites after 2. 7 is also stout.

Justified. Alot of golf courses around here let the public on to walk, which is fair enough, however they think they own the feckin place, walk across fairways, in line of sight, don't pick their dog shit up. Absolute clowns 90% of them. If they'd just be a bit sensible it wouldn't be an issue.
Attempted murder justified

So bought new irons, Mavrik Callaway’s (affordable and nice looking) took them to the range started off fantastic PW dialled in 9, 8 the same feeling amazing couldn’t miss the pin, 7 slightly off, then 5 and 6 absolutely shocking to the point of mild embarrassment. Is this just me swinging wrong or is there a chance the 7, 5, 6 is off?

I just bought them blind and never got fitted, the first time I’ve hit them today.

It's much easier to hit short irons.
It’s a bit easier yeah, but I am usually quite good on the 5 (never used the 6 much but still okay) then today I’m slicing it into other lanes and getting no distance.

Did smash my last shot straight down the middle about 190 yards, is it adjustment or something else?

Long irons are harder to hit, so if you have new clubs that you aren't used to, they will be harder to initially get to grips with, most likely. You could pick up any 9 iron and hit it well really, even a blade, but a 5 iron is a different story.

Choke up a bit on your longer irons.

Also think ‘swing through the ball, not at the ball’ when hitting longer clubs.

Give it time you think? But is it possibly the clubs, no?

Sorry what does this mean exactly?

I’ll try swinging through it a tad more, was really strange how much I was off.

Grip further down on the shaft, start about a half inch down.

Imagine the ball is just in the way when you swing longer clubs. That will promote good smooth tempo.

Choked down today at the range, hitting it much better, going slightly to the left though but could settle for that as distance was insane much further than I hit my last 5 iron.

Thanks @calodo2003 advice was very welcomed, I’ll be back for more

There are so many people would give up a lot of people close to them if they could hit their 5 iron slightly to the left!
