That was a bit of a butt kicking, although it could have been worse.
Dubs -25 in the 18 minutes when Klay was on the court, +11 in the 6 minutes he was out.
Because it wasn't a great defensive scheme. Dallas took a ton of wide open 3s in game 1, they just missed them. Tonight the 3s are falling, lo and behold, they're shredding that defence into a billion tiny confettiLooks like warriors great defensive schemes are not working tonight.
Reggie Miller kept saying that getting to single digit is a psychological swing...wow. warriors by 1Damn Mavs got spooked here. Shots started going out and now everybody's become tentative. Luka had to go solo and pull off a couple crazy shots to keep them ahead...
Watching players pass up open 3s...not a good sign
2 point game into the 4th
Splash...amazing game. Luka will have a reply in him but he needs a running mate.Damn, Jordan Poole
Right now I'd pick the dubs to win it all honestly. Still have that insane ability to go on ridiculous runsWhat a class win that is, absolutely brutal for Dallas
It appears they improved.Looks like warriors great defensive schemes are not working tonight.
Dallas just stopped scoring their open 3s. It was GSWs superior offense that won them the game, they were awesome getting into the paint, Mavs had no answer to that.It appears they improved.
The previous two/three years without Curry, then Klay allowed those players to find their way into the team and develop without too much pressure. Credit to the players but also the coaching staff. And this is without Wiseman. So much focus on Luka & how the warriors defend him but so far the Mavs have shown no ability to guard the warriors scorers. This has been two incredible games for Steve Kerr as a coach . The fact that Wiggins,Looney,Porter and Moody came up big today is proper strength in numbers
3 point shooting obsession is a cancer to the game. Dallas are just an average side that go through hot-streaks but have not tactics other than to chuck threes. It's infuritating that the Dallas players are actually able to drive to the basket but then don't attempt the layup, and potentially get fouled, but rather throw the ball back out to a shooter to throw another 3 point shot.
GSW aren't even attempting that many threes despite their reputation, that's a proper offensive side.
When a team scores 72 points in the 1st half and only 13 in the 3rd quarter, the defense is doing something right.Dallas just stopped scoring their open 3s. It was GSWs superior offense that won them the game, they were awesome getting into the paint, Mavs had no answer to that.
This Warriors offense vs the defense of either Celtics or Miami is going to be fun to watch.
Yup they just cant defend warriors. They have so many scorers and also the ball movement is hard to defend. So much focus on Luka & how the warriors defend him but so far the Mavs have shown no ability to guard the warriors scorers. This has been two incredible games for Steve Kerr as a coach . The fact that Wiggins,Looney,Porter and Moody came up big today is proper strength in numbers
I hate watching the rockets back then and eventhough I favor the Mavs in the NBA I hate watching them play at times as well.It is just so similar to the Rockets with Harden & CP. People just jacking up threes from everywhere around the 3 point line. It’s no fun to watch tbh
Mavs were just missing the shots they were making in the first half. They had 3 in-and-outs that I can remember in the third so maybe some bad luck. It was always going to equalize after they were shooting close to 60 percent in the first half with the same looks. When a team scores 72 points in the 1st half and only 13 in the 3rd quarter, the defense is doing something right.
Doncic is a big guard and it is okay if he can't always keep smaller and quicker guards in front of him, but Dallas don't have a rim protector, nor a strong weak side defense ready to rotate because a big will play a two man game and draw the supposed big or inside presence of Dallas outside the key.Yup they just cant defend warriors. They have so many scorers and also the ball movement is hard to defend.
Luka really needs to work on his defense.
Agree, I don't remember it being like this as well previously as well (00's). I remember their being more than 2-3 days between games. We talk about how you have now time to prepare for games in the playoffs, the schedule isn't that much different to the regular season.Nba playoffs schedule is a bit silly. It’s great for the fans to have games every night but no way should these teams be playing every other day with games of this intensity. Dallas & San Fran are not close either so you are looking at like 3-4 hour travel as well. Why spend months getting here and then be in such a rush to finish
I never saw him play live, but Magic was a similar big guard, how was he defending?Doncic is a big guard and it is okay if he can't always keep smaller and quicker guards in front of him, but Dallas don't have a rim protector, nor a strong weak side defense ready to rotate because a big will play a two man game and draw the supposed big or inside presence of Dallas outside the key.
Magic was a better defender than Luka but to put it nice terms "he wasn't great."Agree, I don't remember it being like this as well previously as well (00's). EDIT: just went back and saw the schedule from some seasons in 00's and it was the same back them as well

Kings picking Bagley is franchise killing. At least the others got good players.Luka is genuinely so so good, it’s proper Lebron like vibes and the only good thing is that he is a bit out of shape. It’s been said a zillion times but it’s truly insane that there was so much video available on him & teams passed on him
Games 1&2 were decided by role players ultimately. You'd expect that to swing the mavs way in dallas, but this is where the dubs championship experience and credentials come into playPhoenix falling apart was the worst thing to happen for those who want a competitive Conference finals.
Not relly, your offence did, they started missing shots and got spooked. At which point they started passing up good shots which bogged down the offenceWhen a team scores 72 points in the 1st half and only 13 in the 3rd quarter, the defense is doing something right.
Here's what happened with the Dubs defense. First half - four things. 1) close outs weren't as crisp as game one especially 2nd half of game one, 2) there were a number of miscommunications which led to not just open 3s, but wide open nobody near you 3s, 3) the Mavs were not just making open 3s, they were making unbelievable 3s, it doesn't matter how good defense is when a team is shooting like that. 4) Klay Thompson was playing like a lost puppy chasing his tail - the Dubs were +11 when he was off the court and -25 when he was in.Games 1&2 were decided by role players ultimately. As to the suns, please, if dallas could find a way to neuter their offence to that degree, the dubs would have eaten them alive

I mean, none of that is wrong. The mavs went up big in the first half behind unsustainable hot shooting, then crashed down to earth behind bad shooting. Dubs did play better defence in the second half, particularly the closeouts were much better, but ultimately the mavs still missed a bunch of open shots(including a couple wide open ones) and panicked as the dubs started going on a run. It was the dubs offence that won the game more than anything they did on defenceHere's what happened with the Dubs defense. In the second half the close outs started to become a little more crisper, communication improved and the Mavs regressed to the norm as far as their 3 point shooting was concerned. Reasons why include, the Dubs constant movement on offense which over time starts to take your legs away and wears you down, lack of experience when all of a sudden your shots aren't dropping any more and thirdly the Dubs really did step it up a notch on the defensive side of the ball.
...and of course Klay Thompson found his tail.
I agree but this all started when I made the comment.I mean, none of that is wrong.
